Great work; for those of us who actually do track events at PIR, can your model be imported into a racing sim like GTR2 (or any other program)? Thanks.
Its very good, but a little too self contained - show some wireframes and shot breakdowns. As a section is playing fade/wipe in with different layers, they dont need to be up for long. What employers most want to see after this is if it's all quads in one mesh, or a mesh for each part of the landscape, how youve organised the polys... etc
Unless you're going into arch-vis, employers will always want breakdowns and wireframes.
For games' style (PS2), no plan to actually implement it though. Overall scene count minus the cars was 58,773 triangles.
Lots of textures - 15 race track-specific, ~6 building, 20 ground/grass/rumblestrip/grunge, 7 more for the background planes, electric poles, lights, and bridge in distance. Finally 7 trees, with an additional 1 variation, plus 2 tree wall tiles, and 2 tree clumps. Possibly 50-55 textures total?
great work, you should have had dancing with kadafi playing for the whole video :) this is great for a demo reel because a lot of studios prefer one long animation to a bunch of 3d turnarounds of inanimate objects. you should add some smoke effects in combustion or some other software... really great stuff
they prefer animations like this? I haven't gotten much response (none at all) when I was using this environment for a portfolio piece, and have been working on more stuff to show a better skillset this whole time. The companies also make it hard when they have those on-site job applications which don't make it apparent at all how to send portfolio stuff over to them :(
maybe not this environemt exactly, but the companies do prefer one single short film or something which demonstrates all your skills - texturing, modelling, rigging etc rather than a collage of a bunch of models
Depends on what job you're applying for. If they want a modeler, for example, then you don't put rigging, animation, vfx, etc. in there. Just models showing them shaded, then wired, then textured, and maybe show the texture mapping. If you put a bunch of junk in ther not pertaining to the job then don't expect on getting that job.
Nice, but for a demo reel you would want a variety of your work. Not just one set. Show some character modeling, some interiors, and maybe some good effects. Otherwise it's really cool.
Currently I am working on a more "versatile" demo reel which would show more variety of environments... however it'll stay as environments or generic modeling, as characters, effects, and character animation aren't really my strong points, nor do I plan on shooting for a job doing those
that really depends on what kind of terrain you're looking to create as well as what the end result you're wanting.
Displacement maps can push a subdivided ground plane up to become terrain-like, with a well-created height map.
The most common terrains stem from multiple textures blended together different ways to create various levels of detail in the terrain - like how grand theft auto has their terrain broken up into multiple textures.
Thanks. I wasn't using a game engine though - all straight from 3dsmax. However I did want it to look and feel like it was from a ps2/xbox gen game though.

I wouldn't be able to accomplish that with my current load of projects... sorry

I completely understand; if you ever get around to it, please let me know. Again, great job.

@rcl4668 yeah it is nice. i was just about to say hes almost on par with racing games that came out 13 years ago.
lol

the video itself is fine, i just have one point of constructive criticism. the suburu outback at the very end turns somewhat awkwardly.

What is this for? Game? Film?
If its for Game what was the overall poly-count?
Where is the wireframe? How many textures are needed.
If its for film not as much to worry about.
Well done, environment and Vehicle modeling.
