i hope everyone realizes that the slums are only one part of mumbai. all of mumbai is not a slum. mumbai is actually home to one of the richest men on earth who just built the largest house in the world there (see mukesh ambani) and has plenty of people living in gorgeous apartments and lots of great places just like any other international city (new york,etc). yes there are slums there but the whole city is not a slum. I've lived there my whole life and never set foot in a slum.
same issue with philippines slum but govt. give them House & lot & they going to pay(300pesos) $ 7 Us dollars a month for 30yrs. Its a good investment for people in the future they can call it their own home they just going to pay for their 1 day work bec. the daily wage at philippines is (405 pesos) or $ 9.41 Us dollars. and they are the first prioritiy on hiring a jobs after the slum was developed to commercial area. Govt cannot do it alone,Businessman should participate in the project

At the current time, the estimate is that now only 27.5% of indians are living under the poverty line and the number is declining every year. just about every respected economist in the world believes that within 60 years india will qualify in the ranks of the first world nations... and that includes european and american economists... just go online and read about it.

Maharashtra Government is doing an absolutely fantastic job. They are giving new and very decent houses to these people. I visited Bombay recently and talked to many people , they were very satisfied with what the government is doing. Soon . Bombay will be much cleaner , and happier :)

Majority of these people cant afford to buy or rent flats in these places partly because the govt did very lil to provide cheap housing and these people have to stay near places where all the business are... so they end up paying a fixed amount(10k rupess) deposit to the local slum lords and these people give them electricity phone and water supply

I spent two weeks in Mumbai City working, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience.
I like India and its people (friendly and hard working) and will certainly visit again as a tourist, Mumbai City/Goa :)

Maharashtra Government is doing an absolutely fantastic job. They are giving new and very decent houses to these people. I visited Bombay recently and talked to many people , they were very satisfied with what the government is doing. Soon . Bombay will be much cleaner , and happier :)

Majority of these people cant afford to buy or rent flats in these places partly because the govt did very lil to provide cheap housing and these people have to stay near places where all the business are... so they end up paying a fixed amount(10k rupess) deposit to the local slum lords and these people give them electricity phone and water supply

Mexico is the perfect place to go for a wonderful cultural experience. But sometimes, I wish Mexicans still remember the language/religion of the time before they became slaves to Spain.
Even so, Mexico is a wonderful tourist spot, the perfect place if you want a break from the fast paced life of major nations and want a look into the quaint past.

It will take a lot more than government to solve it , but it can and will (God willing) improve. India has a lot to offer. The people might be poor, but many of them are very intelligent.
