His talent as an actor is never properly utilized in the bigger budget films he's in. I honestly believe he's a far better actor than he gets credit for being. Not suited for leading man, perhaps, but check out some of the smaller pictures he did and he's got some range.

His talent as a writer/filmmaker though is evident. Gone Baby Gone and Good Will Hunting were phenomenal films. Two of the best from the years they released.
