  • I lived in Kensingston Apartments (which is just about right across the street from Vintage Vinyl) until I was 5 1/2. I found out about this amazing store when I was 24 and went there as part of my 25th birthday celebration. It really is the best record store I have ever been to! THEY HAVE ALMOST EVERYTHING I WANT!

  • Can you imagine working in some old ordinary record store and OPETH just drops in to buy some stuff? Holy cow, I'd cream my pants!

  • What about 'satch boogie'?

  • @ThePhilosopher1996 I don't think he cares for Satch

  • I think we all need to go back the buying cd's and records instead of downloading shit from i-tunes or p2p file sharing programs

  • I'm glad to see that his record store is still in business even during this recession

  • mikael was wearing that top when i saw them play live at manchester academy last friday!!

  • @franknfurterfan666 I was at that gig, but he's worn it for all of the UK and US tour afaik

  • love opeth to death (at least till heritage came around) but if it has boogie in the title he wont buy it?..judging by the groovy hippie sounds of that snorefest heritage i think mike and the guys have been listening to waay too much disco as it is!

  • Mh i don't know this band let's buy it... oh wait i can actually DOWNLOAD it? or listen it on youtube? wait what?

  • @Thewandmirror That's no fun.

  • @Thewandmirror Mikael is old fashioned, therefore he probably enjoys the surprise of a blind purchase. Plus, he undoubtedly has more money to spend on records than you and so it's not that risky for him.

  • @InFlames231 Not only that i'm pretty sure i won't like most of the blind purchases i make, if i made them.

  • @Thewandmirror I like plenty of the ones I made, some of my favorite albums I ever heard I bought by blind purchase

  • Mikael loves JP's first album, fuck yeah!!!!

  • 0:35 MASTODON

  • @kitelicker100 crack the skye ^^

  • hasn't heard red? boy is he in for a treat

  • nice man purse.

  • toki wartooth? noo silly me that's mikeal akerfeldt

  • Red, great choice!

  • Wtf? He haven't heard Red by King Crimson? How can he play prog or even live without it?

  • @omerdrow thats what i thought

  • I have an expansive record collection myself, and I find it humoring that Mikael stated that he won't buy a record if there is a track on it with the word 'boogie' in the title. Even though that may be a generally good rule to follow, I think that anyone could miss out on some great tunes. 'Casino Boogie' from the Rolling Stone's Exile on Mainstream album being one of my personal favorites, but yes, I do have a diverse taste for music.

  • anyone notice that these videos have the new heritage songs way before the album came out? that means we got an easy taste without even realizing it ;P

  • Is his favorite album "rOCK N ROLLA" by Judas Preist?

  • Mikael won't buy Captain Beefheart's "Safe as Milk"?

  • Awesome record store, 45 minutes from my house. New Jersey ROCKS!!!

  • Comment removed

  • akesson. stop being so awkward.

  • Wish I had a record store where I lived... only a few give a shit about rock and metal. Luckily we have a metal radio station opening up next year :S Damn I wanna live in US

  • Uhh Red by King Crimson is amazing.

  • 1:32

Is it just me or is that CD to the bottom right of Mikael Beast by Devildriver?

  • @turquoiseguy yep its beast by devildriver :)

  • I go to this store all the time! It would have been awesome to walk in and see Opeth! DAMN!!

  • Comment removed

  • Rocka Rolla!! Very nice, great album.

  • Would they buy albums of themselves?

  • I really wish that I had a record store like this in my town.

  • Son of a bitch! They passed through a NJ record store like its nothing, I COULD HAVE BEEN IN THERE!!! Oh man, I'm so loitering at record stores more often, ya never know when opeth is gonna walk in...

  • 1:12 I lol'd so hard xD

  • You can't shop for records while in a hurry. It's damaging to the very fabric of the universe.

  • what's that song?

  • @pantalaemon The Devil's Orchard

  • @SleepingGiant613 That first part, too? o.0 sounded unfamiliar.

  • hahaha, 'if it has boogie in the title i won't buy it'

  • @stfanani That's a good rule to live by.

  • @stfanani haha that is a great rule to live by

  • I have around 230 CDs and none of my friends can understand why! They all download whatever's on the radio... pfft!

  • @ausMareoz buy my too !!!!!!

  • guess mikael wont buy led zeppelins physical graffiti b/c of the song "boogie with stu"

  • @sunken0887 Probably their worst song imo. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!!!

  • @braefen imo Black Country Woman is worse than Boogie with Stu. :p from same album iirc

  • @Vindrutetorkaren Wouldn't mind having the album on vinyl myself honestly. Just wouldn't listen to those two songs lol.

  • oh god mikael why couldnt you call me i live so close =(

  • i buy records because of the symbolysm, is something beautiful to buy, no matter if you can download it, is always nice to buy a record you like sometimes ;)

  • I don't understand why such a talented guy buys records of almost unknown artists.

  • @immortalperser

a real music lover wouldn't talk this way.

  • @immortalperser dude just because a band isnt famous doesnt mean they arent good. way to go to be that judgemental. there are many emerging artists that are fucking amazing, it just doesnt appeal to the mainstream media. everyone has to start somewhere.

  • @qnaydz I meant vintage Vinyl records. Sure, I would buy CDs of talented emerging bands if I like their sound but vinyl records can be too pricey sometimes, especially if they are old. Besides, vintage records are old enough, so the artists have already seen the results of their efforts. Buying records of a band that has been disbanded 30 years ago is not going to help the artists make progress musically. I'm not being judgmental, just curious.

  • @immortalperser you best be trollin nigga

  • @divine0enigma It would help if you could make an effort to read my updated comment. That way you won't make a fool out of yourself... unless you're a regular youtube troll.

  • 1:51 It actually makes me angry that that black guy has no Idea who hes standing next to! What I wouldnt give to stand next to Mikael in a random record store! Haha, Iam going to see Opeth live on September 29th for the first time in 9 years and I would literally do anything to get to meet him! I think he is single handedly the most talented man in Heavy Metal music, and one of the most Talented musicians in All of Music. \m/

  • @lambofgodsc the black guy is probably to mikael what you are to justin bieber. just do't give a shit about him!!

  • amazing those stores still exist. There are virtually none in my area now. thanks alot fucking iTunes. You ruined an industry. Also i blame the record companies to for the death fo the music store. Stupid assholes can't get enough money.

  • it's a shame that he doesn't already have all King Crimson albums.

  • Is that Judas Priest's "Rocka Rolla" at 1:33 ¿?

  • @yngwiemaiden48 yes it is ;) he really is a huge priest fan ;)

  • Damn I'd like to go shopping vinyl with these guys! I bet they'd have some awesome recommendations! Only minus is that I'd be poor after it.

  • What's the king crimson album he is holding at 0:54?

  • @MrNeskio I think he said Red

  • @MrNeskio Great album by the way, listen to it if you don't know it.

  • @YpSiLoN666 Which one it is though? Bible Black?

  • @MrNeskio Haha, no, the album is simply called "Red", just that, from 1974, one of their best albums.

  • @YpSiLoN666 Oh, its my favorite King Crimson album, i feel ashamed for not recognizing the cover :/

  • Mikael is awesome, and i love Opeth to extents unimaginable. But he obviously never listened to Balrog Boogie by Diablo Swing Orchestra.

  • and where fuck is the other guitar player?

  • WHY THE FUCK IS MIKAEL SO LEGENDARY

  • I thought that song at 1:05 was Delieverance for a second, that bass there sounds a lot similar to the bass riff from that song

  • whats the name of the song at 0:25 ???

  • @CDGR31 We don't know yet. It's a snippet of the next album.

  • @CDGR31 It's probably from the new upcoming album!

  • Rocka Rolla, siiick!

  • i met them when they came in that day i was looking for stuff my self. i kinda looked over and went oh shit.....opeth just walked into vintage vinyl not something you exactly see every day

  • Looks like Mikael's not a fan of Surfing with the Alien.

  • HE NEVER HEARD RED?

  • Opeth never talked about seeing their own CDs in the store? That would be hilarious if they went up to the register and bought their own albums... "Hey, I heard this is great...ever heard of this band?"

  • I am a huge fan of Opeth's past 9 albums,a fan of metal, but even bigger fan of progressive music in general. I cannot wait to hear this new album. "The Devil's Orchard" is the most different sounding thing theyve ever done, its got that 1970's prog rock/Damnation tone to it, but its still progressed forward for Opeth.I like that snippet you hear in the beginning of this as well.Very smooth and dark sounding, like a darker version of Camel, sort of reminded me of classic Sabbath/Zeppelin as well.

  • How the fuck has Fred not heard Red?!

  • @angus147258

    Yeah i know right!?

  • @angus147258 it's actually not red, it's in the wake of poseidon

  • What about Nick's Boogie by Pink Floyd?!?

  • was that some samples i heard off the new record?

  • @gasol777 Well i know that second song they were playing was the single tey released, but the one in the beginnig was surly new. im actually not sure i was digging that one so much...hmmmmm, of corse i only got to hear like 10 seconds of it so to soon to judge

  • I think that heritage would not be nicer than the other albums, I think black water park is the best

  • @TheJoPk Well they can either try to recapture the essence of BWP for the next decade or they can pursue a new direction, personally I don't want to listen to band trying to compete against their own back catalog, the end result will be a contrived artless POS, so on that note, I welcome the new direction.

  • Interesting stuff. How is it you can be infuenced by Death Metal and Prog rock at the same time?I guess in this modern world anything is possible.

  • @Big77Jim I don't find it that hard to imagine, I have liked both genres for years so yeah, it's not uncommon.

  • @drewmetallica

i agree with every single thing you just said! thank you for being you!

  • Ever time I look at Mike... I see god

  • Man I was just in that record store three days ago.

  • What the fuck Fred hasn't heard King Crimson's Red before?

  • @MuikuliWander

Kinda sad considering I heard it first when i was 16. now im 21

  • i love buying music albums as well! but it costs.. money.. wich i dont have.. much.. to spend like that.. shit.

  • @UndergroundJ0t4 I see the rule of paying for music as follows... if you really like 50% of the stuff on the album you should pay for it. if you only like 1 or 2 songs then either buy 'em though itunes or if you really cannot afford a $20 freakin' itunes card then download it. Here's another rule. Only pay for talent, dubstep isn't talent therefore you can download that shit if you actually like shitty music like that.

    P.S. OPETH ARE THE SHIT!!!!

  • @drewmetallica naa. if i want to pay for it i then want the actual physical album not digital albums or individual musics bought off itunes. the actual record or nothin.

  • @UndergroundJ0t4 Even if you only like 1 song?

  • @drewmetallica if i don't find it worth buying then i wont buy it. simple as that

  • I wish there was shops like that where I am!

  • i rekon they just go home and hop onto the pirate bay and start torrenting :P

  • 0:23 - I hear Camel influence! So excited for this record.

  • Comment removed

  • haha rocka rolla

  • 300 cd's? that's it?

  • omg his favoritee album is awsome

    ROCKA ROLLA /,,/

  • There's something very relaxing and interesting in buying records - It's hard to describe, but personally I just get a very nice and comfortable feeling inside! Go exploring the several shelfs, looking for your records of choice is just amazing! Screw digital downloading and all that stuff! I have 237 records, and just ordered 7 more! Can't get enough! It's addicting! :D

  • @BarrelBanger I know, buying records and having an actual CD or Vinyl feels so much better than having the MP3's on your pc/mac/iPod/etc.

  • @TheRealMechanix absolutely!

  • @BarrelBanger I love that people like you still exist.

  • Buying records is one of the most beautiful activities in life.

  • @Hessianoct Very true. I feel sorry for the people who will never experience it because they get all their music on MP3.

  • Heroes.

  • I dont know about yall, but im watching this over and over for the song in the background!

  • It was pretty awesome getting snippets at their new album.

  • Mikael told the same joke in other interview but with the word coconut intead of boogie.

  • King Crimson's Red. Fuckin-A.

  • Epic xD

  • Hehe who else pre-ordered the "deluxe collector´s box set" ? Can´t wait!

  • such a pointless video :D

    love it

  • I love that Fredrik picks up the new Arch Enemy album. Seeing him not pissed about being fired / let go from A.E. just shows how classy that man is. Very glad he's in Opeth now, the man's a phenomenal player and he deserves the attention he's been getting now.

  • people still buy cds?

  • @66sicbastard *facepalms*

  • @66sicbastard Yeah, cause some people still cares about, and supports music.

  • @66sicbastard Oh fuck off! Go listen to your stolen mp3 or something!

  • @66sicbastard Are you serious?? Im 14 and have like 100 cds

  • @nightsallot WOW

  • @66sicbastard Yes believe it or not some of us love a physical copy of an album in our hand that we bought with hard earned money. now yes people download off of various sites that you have to pay, but not a lot goes to the artist with CD's at least 50% goes back to the artist so your supporting them buying CD's. now free downloading is just fucked up and should be stopped if you cant afford the album then you don't need it.

  • @goalloutlive77 Artists have never got anywhere near 50% on a CD sale. It's closer to 10% at best! When you take into consideration: Shop tax and profit, distribution costs, printing and manufacturing costs, manager fee, recording & label fees etc etc etc. Digital music has enabled unsigned artists to get their music out there like the pros. I agree with you, I love having a physical copy of an album. But CDs are a dying commodity. I don't blame torrents, I blame an out of date music industry!

  • @goalloutlive77

What the hell are you talking about? Just because you have the money doesn't mean you necessarily need it either. And album prices are so high these days! I went into HMV and it's pretty damn hard to find an album under a £10. Plus artists do not see 50% of their CD sales. Do some research first pal.

  • 0:29

    Beeetruit.

  • @bobindashadows22 What a pointless comment.

  • If there was a "\m/" button, I'd be clicking it right now.

  • @APetulantWhiteGuy This NEEDS to be created. Not just for Youtube either-- there needs to be a "\m/" button for the Internet, like that Google plus one button.

That way I can just surf along, throwing up my digital horns at whatever I deem worthy. :D

  • When i'm at bestbuy and I dont know a band, but the cover looks cool, I flip it over and read the song titles, and if I like the song titles I remember them and come home and look them up on itunes. then If I REALLY like the music I buy the actual album, if I think theyre just good, i'll get them through itunes. But I do still buy albums!!! I have alot of cds.

  • Hey, could the riff at the beggining and the song that follows before Devil's Orchard be parts of new songs? They totally sound like it!

  • @blindskull It is.

  • 2:04 My Dying Bride? Fuck yeah!

  • Only a few seconds but it sounds really good. I can't wait!

  • fredrik looks like Piggy from voivod....

  • I like pie

  • you can listen to a full song from their new album @ stereogum!

  • Listen to the first background music, they're giving us a preview of another song from the upcoming album.

  • @Soriua True. And with a few seconds, I'm in love with that song haha :P

  • red from king crimson is amazing, enjoy it ;)

  • If it has boogie in the title I won't buy it, haha!!

Now he needs to title one of his song boogie

  • @Joskun Maybe Joe Satriani, or Tommy Emmanuel!

  • @Joskun YESS haha that would be awesome

  • @Joskun: Also, "coconut" which is very hilarious (he said it on 5 parts interview here).

  • @Joskun And what about Satriani's Satch Boogie?

  • @Joskun

He's going to have a problem with the new Alice Cooper:

    8. "Disco Bloodbath Boogie Fever"

  • @Metalaized damn he most definitely will lol

  • i don't know what should i listen to in this video!! the takes from the upcoming album in the background or the actual interview?! aaaaargh!

  • @Jopeyy yea dude, they're fucking teasing us. I wonder if they have a dvd with a bunch of these clips and "making of heritage" for a special edition, i'd buy it!

  • @Joskun yeah they do! i pre-ordered a limited edition from levykauppa äx (big record store here in finland) and it comes with a cd, dvd and an exclusive Opeth coin!

  • 0:22 - 0:34 Awesome!

    Way to tease us Opeth
