Bill Wyman was an important part of the Stones' synergy, as Ringo was to the Beatles. Good to see ol' Bill still doin' it. I'm sure in live performances The Rhythm Kings are more energetic. Anyway, good, clean playing by some excellent musicians and a great rendition of this great song.
@alijav091 - You know it, though I doubt if John can match his early renditions with CCR. He was a bundle of potent rock 'n roll energy. Peacefulness, E.
@alijav091 - yeah, I watched that. It was a little sedate, but hey check out the crowd at Woodstock and you bet they were the cause of all the rain. :)
Im one of the biggest rolling stones fans in the world (and i mean that) but billy willy was a derranged paedo, none of the others liked him even charlie! Disgrace to the best band to grace the world
Interesting version, but nobody can perform, both band and singing, this song like John Fogerty, who wrote the song while he was the lead singer of Creedence Clearwater Revival. I agree with the poster who commented on Albert Lee. He is such a fine guitarist. John featured Albert promenently in the late 1980's when he performed his Allstars program for employees of Warner Records. That performance has never been released commercially.
As a lifelong CCR fan, I can appreciate thhis version and it's players...but the "near perfect" English diction of the singers and ultra tight rythmn (sic) section mean the song never really takes off ..needs a bit more of a rough edge ... Do think thatWyman has been underated all these years though.
what is the exact model of the steinberger that bill is playing.. i read somewhere that it was an mxz, but i'm not sure if that's right...someone please reply, this is bugging me!
Ok . . Forget the black girls, forget the lyrics and forget the backin band . . . . wot we got here is the bass player from one of the best rock and roll bands of the late 20th century . . . history will destroy this detail in the same way it has destroyed the names of the guys who played tunes while the pyramids were being built . . . but we are alive now, so check the fingers on the fretboard, check the eyeballs . . . . . . we are listening to a rock-n-rolla . . not a lot of guys can do this
Wee are but a blink in the passage of time, luckily for us as the eyelid is coming down these guys met, plugged in and got playing, don't get lost in the detail . . the black girls are, of course, eternal . . .:)
I agree..I think this version is better than CCR's. The Stones did loose this bass sound and feeling when they lost Bill Wyman. Now they have a mediocre bass player with a bunch of keyboards and a horn section. Not the rockin Stones I remember. I think Bill's best bass perforance was on "Miss You" and "Emotional Rescue." Both great songs that will give you a good insight into the music of this genius and underrated bass player. The Stones and their fans miss you!
This is a fantastic version of the original, yet let's be real you cannot touch Credence Clearwater.Nobody can.I really only have one complaint in this version,it is fantastic, the lyrics at the chorus resove following the proper verse are walking along the river road at night, bare foot girls dancing in the moonlight.True or false?
This perfectly illustrates how important Tom Fogerty's rhythm guitar was to the CCR sound. Not that this is a bad version, just really different. I have to say it's awesome to see a Stone covering CCR, too. :)
I think I read somewhere that the tuners or near the base of the strings, as opposed to the head, like a reverse thing. Does that make any sense? I'm not sure on the tunings for a headless bass. Let's get together and ask Bill himself!
that true but look some other people who are about the same age and they look a bit better than he dose. but it was all the drugs that did it for him, that and all those years of touring. i mean wheres drugs are concerned look at keith richards my god look what the drugs did to him! and for the record garzaeduardo i wasn't saying anything bad about him my comment was not meant with any dissrespect for him at all! so please try and refrain from being so sarcastic with me!
Wow that was great! But Bill is not looking so good these days is he? Although he has said "If I knew I was going to live this fucking long I'd have taken better care of myselfe. He's still one of the greatest bass players in Rock 'n' Roll though!!!! :-)
The guy playing guitar behind Bill, dressing a black waiscoat, is Albert Lee
