  • lol @ kenji midori's glasses hahaha

  • whatever

  • Matsui did have better tameshiwari result, and it was him who had the weight advantage. Would you say that Thompson is 10 kg lighter then Matsui? In 1987 Matsui had 85 kg, and Thompson, obviously, had about 95 kg. So Matsui should have won thet fight after the 2 extension, but Sosai persisted that the fighters returned to tatami, for he, I believe, wanted Matsui to win by wazari or ippon and didn't want anyone to doubt that Matsui is the true champion.

  • true

  • The Japanese commentator is say that Matui is lighter than Tompson and also win the tamesiwari. But Sosai led them fight another roud.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but according to the rules Matsui should have lost this fight. Sosai Oyama told the judges to call another extension.

  • why do you think so? According to what i see, all the 4 referees decide a draw. Sosai Oyama and others discussed whether they should extend another round.

Anyway, very nice fight. Can't imagine Kancho Matsui, in such condition, still can throw such a nice kick

    Osu

  • That draw desicion was after their 3rd round. If I remember well, Matsui had better tameshiwari result and Thompson had the 10kg weight difference advantage. I believe weight rule had higher priority so Thompson should have won that. Nevertheless Sosai decided that at that stage of the tournament that slight advantage was not enough to get to the final. The fight was important since Matsui was the only Japanese fighter left in the competition. Luckily Matsui proved that Sosai was right.

  • You're right mmarzec. According to the RULES Matsui should have lost the fight...But respect to both Matsui and Thompson

  • That's not true. You have it completely revsersed. Matsui weighs 10kg less than Thompson. So Matsui should have won after the 2 rounds.

I don't think 3rd and 4th round was necessary. They should have ended the fight according to the rule.

  • Exactly. According to the rules Matsui should have WON the fight after 2 rounds, but Oyama Sosai decided to give him a "trial" and made him prove that he was a true champ. Matsui was lighter and also had better tameshiwari results.

  • @nikikun Yes he was a true champion... probably the best one, he had so much talent and his timeing is the best I've ever seen!
