I miss these old school intros. They were simple and to the point and got you into the mood of the game before the opening kickoff. College football back then seemed to be more simple and locally and old school fun. Now its all corporate and over bloated especially on ESPN. Do we really need to know who is signing on to what school or having the university's annual spring practice games on?
Michael Dean Perry is the only football player I can think of who had a hamburger named in his honor. When he was with the Browns, the McDonald's restaurants in Cleveland offered the MDP, which was like a Big Mac, but instead had three meat patties and bacon.
Tigerray, I may be a die-hard Maryland fan, but I have to admit it, Death Valley has one of the best atmospheres and traditions in College Football and one of the toughest places to play if you're on the road. Do you have any footage of the great Clemson/Maryland games from the late 70's and early 80's when both teams were good and won a combined 8 ACC Championships in the 1980's spanning from 1981 through 1988.
I used to have the 1983 game (a long time ago). I recently heard the only known copy of the 1978 game (which most including me have never seen) was ruined early on when Clemson showed the game to potential recruits too much and wore the tape out.
Like everyone else, I say thank goodness CBS changed their theme. Also, it was much better when Musburger was ousted in favor of Nantz. I hope Clemson wins the national title, as until there's a playoff (it may be shortly,) it's best if lower profile teams from BCS conferences such as Clemson win the title rather than Ohio State, Michigan and all that other vermin.
This theme and the current theme actually debuted during Super Bowls that CBS broadcasted. This one during Super Bowl XVIII in 1984 and the current one debuted for Super Bowl XXI in 1987.
I forgot about this theme song from cbs. Good thing they changed it to what it is now, even though that same theme is what ? 20 years old ? I'm older than that current theme song !!

College football was more fun back then. Now it's too corporate and money-driven.

I am quite amazed how similar the atmosphere feels to this video, 22 years later! Makes me damn proud to be a Tiger.
