How to Fix your Undetected CD/DVD Drive

Great Video, worked perfectly.

I have a Windows 7 Laptop which read discs for 2 weeks and then suddenly stopped and the Disc Drive Indicator Disappeared In My Computer.

I followed your Method and instead of Deleting the File "LowerFilter" I changed the name of it to "OldFilter", and I then Restarted My Computer to find that the Disc Drive had reappeared.

Then I went to Autoplay Options and Selected Play DVD Rom Automatically in Windows Media Player and I can now play DVDs/CD Roms again!

Mine reads game, but when I put custom DVD-R's or DVD-RW's, it will not read.

@f1e3r Sorry for late reply but this might mean your drive is broken and you need to replace it with a new one.

When i deleted my UpperFilter (Cause I only found this one), my computer crashed. WTF? I found this solution on every microsoft and other websites, but as you can see, it doesn't worked for me. so... After deleting UpperFilter, my computer was near full system reinstallation, but it only took me computer repairing and system restore to previous point, where it was working fine. Somebody has suggestions?

@paulisemo15 hi. i tried it. but it didnt work. when i deleted it, my PC just turned off without shutting down. and when I turned on my PC, the DVD Drive appeared. but its just for a while. after that its gone again. what if i format it? do you think the filters that i deleted should return back to the registry?.

@24kojiful I have found only upper filter. and yes - my pc then crashed.. reinstalling windows wasn't helpfull for my CD/DVD drive to be recognised. I don't think it's a big problem (cause I'm not some programmer who know everything about PC problems), but it's still a problem to be solved ;) and I haven't solved it yet.. (atleast now I have new PC and that one was sold)
