FFX - The AP Trick in a nutshell

For AP farming I usually just take the characters out to the valley of the cactuars when they're still quite weak. Cactuars give you a substantial amount of AP, especially if you get 3. I make sure I have wakka starting to earn his jupiter sigil first though so that all those battles contribute to that too. And when they're a bit stronger and maybe have their celestial weapons I just take them to the omega dungeon to max out the sphere grid. And now i'm getting spheres from the monster arena! :)

Less AP, sooner, searching for fewer things beforehand: Overdrive to AP, keep one sacrificial 'victim' at low max HP but give them lots of kills. The 'victim' attacks & dies only when all are resurrected. Fewer attacks are made before the Tonberry does his regular attack, & there is a risk of wipeout

Keep the victim's Overdrive set to Stoic (the default) & obtain Comrade overdrive for the rest by being hit repeatedly by weak enemies. Tidus, Yuna & Auron learn Comrade 2-3x slower than the others

awesome game, really fun gameplay, challenging, rewarding, decent story, ruined only by terrible voice acting, horrible dubbing, and script, constant use of "you know?". maybe the script problem was because of translation? i doubt the japanese version is as unbearingly annoying.. x-2 is a lot of the same, but at least you can skip most of the cutscenes

This was my first FFX game :), but I never encountered a Tonberry but I encountered a Cactuar :D. It's been months since i've finished ffx and I haven't finished FFX2 yet, i just started playing like 3months ago or something, only played it once then stopped. And so i decided to continue :D, and yesterday i encountered a.... Tonberry :D!! I was like wtf is that... o.o I bet its one of those recurring monster/enemies :)

Not sure how everyone else feels about kimahari,but i fucking hate him. It's not so much his character that i hate. It's his moveset and overdrives. People will probably argue that kimaharii is useful,blah,blah,blah,but in all honesty he is singlehandedly the worst character in the game in my opinion. Nova is his only useful overdrive and even then you have to wait for the end of the game for that furry bastard to obtain and be able to use it. Not sure why they made him suck so much.

I used to use Triple AP, Overdrive->AP and Triple Overdrive, then use Rikku's Double or Triple Overdrive mixes to mutliply the points further. I'll admit that I became bored once I completed around five characters' Sphere Grids, but I wasn't aiming for a perfect game and wanted to beat the hardest enemies.

The setup shown is fastest, but all you need for the combo to work is the Overdrive > AP. Even AutoPhoenix is not necessary; Kimahri getting only 700 damage proves that is so. Just make the third character your designated Phoenix Down thrower. Also your attacker with the most HP should be on Stoic; it gets slightly more AP than Comrade. Everyone gets Stoic as default, but to get Comrade, get hit. Tidus has to get hit 300 times, Yuna 240, Auron 220; All Others,100 times

those are all really powerful abilities and you don't need them all to use this trick. the only one you REALLY need is Overdrive to AP and maybe triple overdrive but only because the items for it are easy to get. and this isn't the best way to use this trick.

autophoenix is easy to get just get 20 megaphoenix's and combine it to armour. triple ap is a drop from the arena monster one eye. ribbon isnt actually needed for this. and triple overdrive.... idk =P sorry about that one

The AP's have priority, however I highly recommend you go the trouble of getting triple overdrive. It makes a huge difference and is worth the gil.

Triple overdrive is highly reccomended, but an obsolute must is overdrive-AP.

Without this, you won't get AP from the damage. You can customize it on with 10 doors to tommorows.

not that I don't LIKE them, I just didn't use them all that much throughout the game. Rikku, Auron, Tidus, and Yuna were basically the 4 that I used throughout the whole game. Wakka, Lulu, and Kimahri I hardly used. But none of it technically matters once you max everyone out, because they'll all basically be the same character x7 aside their overdrives, and Yuna's summons. (not to mention weapons / armor)

Easy way to get money: Go to Kilika and buy lots of tetra shilds. Now go to monster arena and kill monster called Kottos and you get 40 healing springs, customise the tetra shilelds you bought with ability SOS regen. Repeat that and sell the shields, you get something about 37 000 per shield after customising it!

Bribe a marlboro for 540,000 gil to get 4 wings of discovery or a great marlboro for 1,120,000 gil to get wings of discovery, if you give more than 10x the gil to a great marlboro you'll gain 15-25 wings of discovery at a time, but it's very time consuming and costs ALOT, not to mention the time spent to even earn that kind of gil.

lol most ppl don't, there are ways to gain that type of money, one way is to go to the omega ruins, just make sure your characters are strong enough to survive in there, there's a fiend in there called the mimic, if you kill a mimic you'll automatically gain 75k i think 150k if you overkill, but anyway it helps after maybe an hour or two you got yourself 1mil to 1.5mil

i know about the mimc from omega, you get the most gil from him than any other beast. 1. you have to find him first, just walk around the entrance near the save sphere, you'll almost always get him. it's a chest and a zauras. You have to get lucky to steal from the chest and get mimic and not a mega-potion! You normaly get 50k gil. Pull out rikku cause her godhand has gillionaire so you get 100k gil, then defeat them both. it takes so long cause you have to find him, get a lucky steal, etc.

oh i see, there are other ways to gain money as well, i way i did it was, i went to a calm land monster, i forgot which one, and i farmed up gear, he dropped Triple AP gear which sold for 100k a piece(i think), anyway after about an hour i had enough bribes for a regular marlboro for over 30 wings of discovery, which gives break HP limit.

But i have been searching all over the cave of stolen faith or whatever it's called and i keep getting someone else, is there anywhere else i can find a tonberry? Not a king tonberry in the omega ruins, but the normal tonberry.

i got a question for the video maker. did you put both rikku and auron on comrade mode too? if you did then wouldn't it be more effective to put the two on stoic and just put kimari on comrade and make him cast auto life to both of them?

It would've been the same result for Kimahri, just with Auron and Rikku earning 0 AP since Tonberry kills them instantly and Stoic mode only charges overdrive when being attacked, not being KO'd (it's been awhile since I last played FFX, so I'm not entirely sure if that's true or not) And considering I was in the middle of stat maxing at the time, it was more effective this way since I needed everyone to move around the grid (semi-freely) activating nodes.
