  • the commentator said that the "foreign" skaters are all giving her a standing ovation ... she certainly deserved the applause ... this was 1989 ..... unbelievable!

  • この演技の凄さを観客はあまり分かってないみたいだな。

  • she is so strong she jumps so high and fast

  • Simply the best female free skater in the history of our sport. Over 20 years on and none of the ladies are anywhere near her technical ability.

  • she is flying!

She is a role model for the jump.

  • That has to be the most beautiful 3 Axel ever.

  • Thanks for posting this! This is the most perfect version of the six different triples/seven triples by a female skater in one programme, only ever performed by the magnificent Midori Ito, and all of them faultless.

  • I think that 6.0/6.0 is accurate.

  • Simply the best. The greatest female figure skater I have ever seen. I would still prefer hers than today's performances.

  • Her jumps are HUGE!!! and Delayed!! It's hard to delay a triple especially. Triple Triple at the end! If she were to compete today she'd get +3's or even more.

  • WOW!!!! 3-A 3-ltz 3-Fl 3-L (from a spread eagle!) 3-Sal, 3Tl-3Tl and 2-A perfectly executed!! WOW!! And with such charm and grace!

  • Midori = A living Legend. 'Nuff said.

  • midori's such a legend!!! she could definitely land a quad if she wanted!

  • midori's really the greatest female jumper in skating history.

she's pulling off all these jumps - powerful, consistent, great height+spring, solid clean landings.

**unlike many of the skaters who rely on their skinny straight frames to pull off/cheat on the rotations. imagine if they all had real womanly hips like midori, they would all be falling all over their a***s by now. no one compares to her jumping talent and technique

if she were a man she'll be trying to quads for everything.

  • 異次元の素晴らしさに脱帽です。

  • If I were to judge her skating with the new code of points, I would've given her 2.50 GOE for ALL of her jumps. Yuna is nowhere close to her.

  • Ten years later, this is stlll the best technical performance by a lady skater.

  • It simply doesn't get any better than this: In 1990:

    Triple Lutz

    Triple Axel

    Triple Flip

    Triple Salchow

    Triple Loop

    Triple toe-triple Toe

    Double Axel

    All landed perfectly

  • yes, definitely an excellent skate for her

  • WOW 10 X BETTER than yUNA kIM's olympic skate

  • @nashleigh79

wow, her triple-Axel was so high and fantastic, but her coreography was actually boring. her performance doens't match with the music! if it was because of the old style in 1990, it is even acceptable! frankly to say, yu na Kim ist the Best under all historic skaters.

  • Midori's triple axel is better than most of the men's.

  • he height is amazing.

  • Marvelous Midori. Greetings from Europe. Good luck.

  • at 2:21, she made 3S, which became 2S at 89 World. So this program is better.

at 3:05, this Ina Bauer looks like Arakawa's, unlike the style at 89 World.

  • 6 types of triple jump are all in one program.

This is the highest standard of woman skaters

nowadays to beat. I hope Asada Mao can beat

this somedays, but she has to strengthen Salchow

and rehabili for Lutz. ISU should take this as a bonus

    rule too.

  • Why the hell didn't she get all 6.0's for technical merit????? what, did they think someone could have done better???? I mean come on?

  • Well, technically, she didn't deserve 1 6.0 bc her technique is NOT perfect. She never fixed the high wrap of her legs.

  • @mlc2005 I totally agree! This is the best ladies' technical performance in the history of the sport--and it took place 22 years ago!

  • wow looks effortless... except it also looks really hard to do

  • She is the premiere free skater of our time. If you want to teach someone how to do a triple axel have them watch this video. As for Robin Cousins getting a 6.0 for technical and artistry I think he would even agree this far surpasses anything he did in his career technically. She is a marvel of our time

  • WHAT AWESOME JUMPS SHE HAS!!!

  • what a great lady!!! I LOVE Midori Ito!

  • AMAZING! Again, I can't believe she get's 5.7 for presentation.. PATHETIC!

  • I remember Robin Cousins also recieved a 6.0/6.0 at the 1980 WC.

  • Yes, she hits the triple salchow in this performance, that she only doubled at the World Championships - compares to the 1988 Olympics, where she missed NOTHING in both in SP and LP. Brilliant.

  • sugoooiiii!

  • If I'm not mistaken, this is the only skating performace in ladies history to receive a 6.0 for both technical merit and artistic impression.

  • Wow, what a jumper--plus artistry. This is a beautiful performance.

  • I wholeheartedly agree that this was her best ever performance. I am so grateful that this was posted - it was just about the only one I hadn't seen. The speed and the energy level in the last minute are remarkable, and that triple axel is a textbook beauty.

  • This performance was amazing. Ito's SP and LP from the 89-90 season were my favorite; just a perfect balance of artistry and technical ability.

You rarely see girls do 7 triple programs nowadays, let alone have all 6 triples down. Midori was indeed ahead of her times.

  • That is just remarkable. Probably the best performance I've ever seen from her in terms of combining sheer technical ability with beautiful artistic impression.
