@dJDannyVice It´s fun as hell to play, I got one two days ago and just can´t get enough. But I have to admit, It´s not for everyone. If you´re into eletronica, you should get a more flexible/poly synth. If you like to make cartoony/funky/spacy sounds like me, you´ll have a blast!
So good to see someone that actually plays keyboard so well demo this machine. Most demos are one of the company's salesmen that just holds a key and spins some knobs for 10 minutes.
@patyxxx The way he uses the pitch wheel he would just have to swap hands like crazy when pitchbending/tweaking filter and so forth. Plus.. Most people shred with their right hand :)
Great to see someone actually playing one instead of cat-walking up and down the keyboard with their fingers like a lot of these youtube demonstrations.
Moog are the Lexus of synthsisers; they are made with the finest ingredients and will mostly likely outlast their human owners in lifespan - of course they're expensive. You need to be absolutely serious and committed before purchasing something like this.
Start with a Casio SK-1, once you write a whole album on that, get a Little Phatty.
I love playing with this thing at Guitar Center, and I'm new to the synth stuff too, but I don't get why it's so much money. I'm leaning towards the Korg R3 cuz it has a vocoder and it has recordability on it that the Phatty doesn't have and it's only 600 rather than 1300, but this thing has such good sound though. I'm torn between.
Jordan Rudess (the legendary keyboardist in the video) actually gives online lessons at j r o c . us (without spaces). It stands for "Jordan Rudess Online Conservatory" and is a collection of video lessons, I think. I haven't signed up yet but am considering it.
at 1:23 you talk about using the SAME KNOB to alter the time AWAY from the DECAY and To the ATTACK.
I notice this with a good percentage of the instruments that have been built in the last 20 years or so.
To save space on the front panel, each control performs multiple functions BUT they can only perform ONE AT A TIME.
This may be great for studio work, but for a live performance it somewhat limits the ability that you have to alter the sound WHILE you are performing.
What I wouldn't give to be able to borrow one of these things from somewhere and play with it for a couple weeks. It's too bad they're a wee bit out of the price range of someone on SSI.
Want Moog Little Phatty...Can't afford Moog Little Phatty...Of course first I gotta find out as much as I can about the supposed software that makes it possible for a totally blind individual to interface with it. Think I better call Moog Music tomorrow and ask them. Then I'll know if it's worth saving up for. Too bad none of the stores in the small town where I live keeps an LP around for demoing purposes...
I hope that in 20 years I too can be sitting in a room manipulating sound and light from a super holographic keyboard controller. This would include air depth and field manipulation as well as neuron density and cerebral spatial control! Then I would be the Keyboard Wizard
I love it. I just wish this machine had a dedicated knob for filter functions: cutoff, res, attack, depth
This is pretty standard on synths these days, even cheesy ones that don't have nearly the oscillators that Moog has. I assume this was a cost cutting omission? It worries me a little. Obviously, he's doing fine with it though ; )
MCSin2007: Jordan is a pro musician in the prog metal band Dream Theater as well as many other projects including time with the Dixie Dregs and many other colaborations.
