Mugen Tutorial Part 2: How To Add Characters & Get More Character Slots!

Thanks so much for the video, but how do you add more than one character? Whenever I try it just ends up being an empty space where the character should be.

@TheVoltaire818 I have had that happen to me before, depends on the what version of mugen the character is. First off, did you type the file name character correctly they way it is shown on the folder file? Second, is is under (Insert Characters Here) on the select.def file, and if you added already a char before, is the second char you wish to put in file's name you added under the previous char name?

@ShanaAndHaruhiRulz I found the problem. The .def file name and the folder name were two separate things. I was putting the file name instead of .def name on it. Thanks for the help!

@youneveri You just right click the folder and a list pops up where it say's 'rename' click it and then title of the folder will be highlighted, and right click again and click 'copy' on the list. That's all.

Look to make it easier just type the name of the folder into the select.def

I dont know whats happening. I got to data but all it says it readme. I click it and there is no motif = data/big/system.def. Now i cant have more character slots. Please help me

@Waterbear234 I can't help you that bud. :( Are you sure you didn't download mugen with missing files or is corrupted? The motif thing should be there.

I've downloaded like 30 chars, when I do what you tell me to do, when I enter the game is just a blank space, only 2 chars out of 30 are available to use.

@saiahznightz try reinstalling the mugen.cfg MUST be there for your mugen to work

uhh i copyed and pasted the motif = data/big/system.def exactly like that and it wont increase my character roster and i did it exaclty like you said

when i download a character jill valentine and link for ex.

it always opens in adobe reader and says that adobe can't read the files

and then i have to re-download them again and still the same problem

What file format are the characters in? Are they in zip format or rar format? Did you extract the the files?

Ok I don't know why you lost the first one, how did you lose it? Oh and certain characters may only work for winmugen if you have Mugen 1.0. And vise versa. Plus, try copying the character's name from the def file instead of the folder it's in and paste it on the select.def file under chars. That sometimes works.

omg i run into one error after another know when I add in the .def for the select its the reason that cause what i said in my second comment so its like i have no way of adding characters so i'm suck with the character you're given and i'm already bored with him.

The file of the character you downloaded could be corrupt so try downloading another character. Stuff like this has happened to me before.

@ShanaAndHaruhiRulz k and i dont know why this happens but when i go to select there is no .def so when i add it and open it with notepad and try to paste the character file i renamed and copyed it wont let me paste and when i try to go to open the mungen game it says well look at the second coment i said in and i cant figure it out

and another error was then i tried to type it in instead of copying and pasting then saved it and went into mugen and then a pop up came up and said error message couldnt find file for selection screen select.def cannot load char select data in select.def and when i clicked ok it closed me out of mugen so i have two problems can i get a little help on this situation pls?

ok everything was going fine until it came to the part to copy the folder after bringing it in the char folder and renaming it and i right clicked and copied and then went to the select.def and went to the spot where you showed us to paste but when i right clicked it was showing that i couldnt paste it so i'm a little stuck here anybody know what to do?

I'm pretty sure you have notepad. If you have a windows computer that is. Every version should have one. Why not click on the start menu, click on 'accessories' and you'll find notepad there or just type it on the search box on your start menu. I'm sure if you open the file, it SHOULD ask you to open with the one of the following programs. Which should be notepad.

Add .def to Select then. Right Click 'rename' and add .def to select. It should work.

Well if they are in RAR files do the same thing like you would do with compressed zipped folders. Extract the file using a program like 7zip to extract it. The extracted file should be a folder. If you don't have a program to extract files see my first tutorial on how to get it and extract it. If you do then watch this video from 2:16 to the end to see what to do. ;)

Whoops I accidentally wrote mugen.cgf instead of cfg!! Go to mugen.cfg. It's CFG. Sorry lol.

I don't think you're supposed to delete the 2 kung fu men. You might as well download mugen all over again and try again. =/
