Matt Smith is a complete miscast - and besides I don't like "him" - and the Nazi's sure did not act out in a big frame against Jewish people: they rather tried to not overdue it before the election.
It's much more interesting to read the diaries of Christopher Isherwood - what a delightful and considerate person. The BBC took it's freedom with the source material and checked off about every cliche available about German history of the 1930's and gay.
Isherwood proved a shallow person in the end when snubbing the man who's life he had changed, poignant and sad if revealing of the differences in how people see their common life experiences. Bittersweet world we live in.
This is a wonderful movie, and inspirational at that. But I cant leave a serious comment when The Doctor is in it so I am obligated to day... Let's kill Hitler.
BORN IN NEW JERSEY U.S.A IN 1951, BY THE AGE OF 8, I REALIZED THAT I WAS IN MORTAL DANGER, BUT LUCKILY HAD THE INTELLECT AND TALENT TO BECOME INVISIBLE-- AND THEREBY SURVIVE. I COULD, AND DID, "PASS". NOT ALL OF US COULD. I WOULD ALSO SURVIVE REAGAN'S HIV HOLOCAUST, AND THE FUNDAMENTALCASE EVANJELLYSKULL NUTZI'S (A MONIKER I CREATED JUST FOR THEM) GLEN EYRIE PROTOCOLS. I KNOW THE SECRET OF APPLE COMPUTER'S LOGO (GOOGLE 'ALAN TURING') ... AND THAT KNOWLEDGE IS THE MORTAL ENEMY OF RELIGION.
TO JILL HAWORTH: I WAS THE 16 YEAR OLD WHO SPOKE BRIEFLY WITH YOU IN 1967, BACKSTAGE AT THE PAPERMILL PLAYHOUSE ('THERE'S A GIRL IN MY SOUP'), REGARDING THOSE DESPICABLY IMPERCEPTIVE NYC THEATRE CRITIC REVIEWS OF YOUR BRILLIANT ORIGINATION OF SALLY BOWLES IN THE OBC OF "CABARET". YOU HUGGED AND KISSED ME, AND SAID (AS SALLY BOWLES) "DARLING, I HAVE NO IDEA WHO YOU ARE, BUT I LOVE YOU", AND THEN WHISKED OFF. THIS BRILLIANT FILM VINDICATES YOU ENTIRELY. MY SINCEREST THANKS FOR THAT MEMORY. BRAVA!
I feel bad that I was not able to become enthralled by this movie,I had such high hopes because of the reviews given by my friends,I think I will watch it again
