Ahhh...fond memories of Jimmy when he played with Chas McDevitt's Skiffle, and of Robin singing to hushed audiences at the London Hootnannys, 'way back in the early 60s
Thanks for posting this "bigmanio"..I used to sing this with my pals....as a "wean" growing up in the tennements of Springburn...I sang this song to my 3 lassies, now am singing it to their "weans" ......thanks again.....
My Da sung me this when I was a wee boy. I sang it to my daughter now 22 my son 7 and now my wee Molly 10months old. It is a timeless tune and always sends the bairns off to sleep.
I was raised in Glasgow - and as sweet as this clip is - it doesn't reflect the fact that some of these tough little bastards (I was never one of them) would head butt their way out of trouble. It was the gorbals and fierceness was the only possible response other than to cry, cut and run like shit. (Which I also did)
I guess 'I' do 'Belong To Glasgow.'
Compliments on the post - memories are flooding in.Many Thanks.

I used to sing to my bairn too when they were wee.
Aparently the song was written by a Mr. Robert Coltard (died 1890) as an advertising jingle for an aniseed-flavoured sweet, manufactured in Melrose

My very first record was Robin hall & Jimmy MacGregor away back in 1967. Have you got any more?
