I believe that he's is preformed like this. Someone is doing all the juggling in the lower half the body. And someone else is behind the juggler the costume doing the head and the mouth and the voice. I believe that's how it is doine.
It appears that Fred Garbo (the hands of the puppet) is likely looking through Dexter's shirt, just below his head. Since it's black, it could hide the scrim better.
I can answer THAT one. Gordon came first. But it wasn't Roscoe Orman. It was Matt Robinson who played the FIRST "Gordon" on Sesame Street. Matt was ALSO a writer for the '80s show "The Cosby Show". He passed away August 5th,2002 in his sleep. He had battled 20 years with Parkinson's disease. He was 65. He took the role of Gordon in 1969.
I should've asked if Roscoe's Gordon came before or after Willie Dynamite. I knew about the 1st and 2nd Gordon's preceding Roscoe. I was too young to remember Gordon #1 but remember Gordon #2...and then Roscoe ever since. :)
All right. Here you go...Matt Robinson '69 - '72. Hal Miller '72 - '73 Roscoe Orman '73 to Present. {Wikipedia} Sooo...Roscoe's Gordon came before William Andrew Short - aka Willie Dynamite.
Thanks! I somehow remember Hal Miller but certainly not Matt Robinson. When SS debuted I was 2 years old. I might've seen it but would unlikely remember. When Roscoe first appeared, I remembered being upset that Gordon "shaved his head". I was only 6 at the time ;-)
He's a mixture between a honker/Fraggle/troll/or one of the monters from Where the Wild Things Are all rolled into one. What year is this from, because I don't remember him or have heard of him until now. Kevin IS an awesome performer and a really good guy overall. Nice clip!
I don't remember it either. Do you by any chance no what year this is from? By the looks of it I might be wrong but it could be from anytime from the mid '80's till about early '93. But please don't take my word for it.
In any event, have a great night, a great day tommorrow, a great night, tommorrow, a great week, a great month, a great autumn, a Happy Thanksgiving,a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! All the best in 2010 and beyond! Puerto Rican Love from New York City!

Kevin Clash did the voicing and Fred Garbo Garver does the movement.

BTW - Roscoe Orman = Willie Dynamite. It's on YouTube. If you've never seen Roscoe in this role (circa 1973), you're in for a surprise... ;-)

WHOOPS! Did you mean (1974)? I just looked at the cast list on IMDB(dot)com
stevenscottoddballz 2 years ago
Probably '74 ... at least around that time. But I've always wondered... who came first, Willie or Gordon? ;-)

Roscoe Orman started in 1974, actually.
ErnieandBert1 2 years ago
I looked at Wikipediaand typed in Roscoe Orman, & got '73. Where did you see '74?
stevenscottoddballz 2 years ago
Roscoe Orman started playing Gordon at season 6, which started in 1974.
Wikipedia is not a reliable source when it comes to Muppet stuff. Better luck at Muppet Wiki.

Impressive--I never recall seeing Dexter on the show, so it's good to "meet" another minor Sesame Street Muppet after the fact.
