And for Marie Antoinette to get involved in french politics would have never been an option.......They should have done more to put right all the lies being fed to the public by the pamphleteers.....The start of the hatred was The affair of the necklace and the american revolution......rookie mistakes
the french people have always been too hot tempered to understand what they are supposed to be fighting for....hence the amount of revolutions they have had. Louis XVI would have been a good modern monarch in that he was willing to bend to the will of the people and would not put down rebellions.....Very weak in the 1780's when the common person had never had democracy. It happens today, the grass is never greener.
Louis may have been a decent man and clever with his hands, but he was naive and an ineffective leader in a time of great turmoil for his country. If either him or his queen had been better connected to their own people, better politicians, better leaders in any way, France might have a very different and far less bloody history. Human history is littered with decent folks who got caught up in large events and paid with their lives. Louis' story is far from the most tragic.
@Coptic78 the apology will not come as the ones that rules France today are descendents of those oppurtunistic prostitutes that usurped the power of the french state in the directoire and thenlater the empire.
What a bunch of assholes. >:(

Robespierre was correct in asserting that compassion for the oppressed requires punishment of their oppressors.

What a brave and good man. What a valiant and courageous man King Louis XVI was. France owe his and his family a big apology,

the killing of Louis was brief, where as the reign of monarchs is a barbaric act that only ends with their execution.

Truly barbaric and unnecessary act, a pain to watch.
