this version is too bright and cheerful from the environment to the clothes...they just look wrong. WH is supposed to be dark, depressing and haunting and this one fails in that area. It only manages to focus more on the love between Heathcliff and Cathy something the other versions limited or cut out.
@xane1990 yeah completely agree with you. This version seems to be too lively and bright. It is not faithful to the novel's gothic roots, which is actually the Bronte sisters' signature. I guess the version with ralph fiennes is closer to the novel's dark and heavily foreboding atmosphere. Truly, Emily Bronte who was so outwardly tranquil was surely impetuously passionate inside ... it's almost scary!
@Rosamorrable Yes you are right. Ralph Fiennes version did a marvelous job in capturing the atmosphere cos that's the thing that drew me in when I first read the book. Without it the intensity is lost
Tom's Heathcliff was just... he has that... Dark and Sexy thing about him that I can't help but want to hump all day!!! *replaces chair because of heathcliff's sexiness*
@marsenka18 - I agree. Gotta admit- when I first saw the promo, I wasn't sure- I was like "That's Heathcliff??" He was a bit different than what I pictured, but when he opened his mouth with his first words in that scene with his son - I was like -YEAH! That is soooo Heathcliff - and before movie was over, he became my fave Heathcliff, bumping Ralph Fiennes into # 2 spot - though I still like him a lot in the role too. But Tom Hardy got it down to a science - and he became my # 1 Heathcliff. ;-)
@hellifairy - I agree. Tom Hardy did something all the others didn't do- though the others were good, and some very good. But TH depicted all of the facets of Heathcliff in a believable manner- from the loving and sensitive- with Cathy- to the volatile and dangerous to the vengeful and sarcastic to everything else in between. He was what I love in a male character- a complicated individual. Not all bad. Not all good. Multi-faceted like a rough diamond- yet the mystery always remaining alive...
The reason I like Heathcliff and Cathy relationship is because it reminds me of my past relationship were together for about 15yrs. we met when we were young we loved and hated equally.
@iloveneytiri - her name is Charlotte Riley. What I really love about these two- besides the great performances they gave as Heathcliff and Cathy - is that they are engaged in real life. :) I love stories of true life romances that bloomed from working together on the set, as happened with Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley. Often in the movie you can feel the reality of their strong feelings for each other beneath the acting and I love that. <3
The other day my niece talked about the love of Bella and Edward and how it's the best love story of all time. And I wanted to throw up. Please Bella and Edward really, screw that. The following are enduring lovers , Romeo and Juliet, Tristan and Isolde, Lancelot and Guinevere, and the Love/Hate couple of all time Caty and her Heathcliff.
@cuthbertallbad - thanks! :) I thought it really cool when she sings "possess you"- it looks like that is what Cathy is saying at that point. :) It's so cool when things drop into line like that without trying. Some of the editing I really worked hard at, of course - but some of it just fell into place. :) That happens to me a lot. (love it when it does! lol)
@piperhalliwell0099 - thank you!! :) I love that scene too - and that's around the point of the movie where I usually lose it too. lol I have yet to watch this movie and not cry.

@xMegweimx - that is so cool that my video inspired you to watch the movie and read the book! Thank you for telling me that - so glad you enjoyed it. :)
@sassylatina808 - well, let's put it this way- it's my favorite. ;-)
If you like more ghostly- Ralph Fiennes is the best for that.
If you like more romance/ love story feel between H & C- this one is the best.
The acting is superb all the way around and the characters believable, though plot did sway from the book at times (i.e.- no tenant lived at the Grange), and they used some artistic license to tell their own version. But in my opinion- they stuck to the basics and really told it well.
who actually cares if he looks like a gypsy ???- I dont !! It`s about the emotion feeling. Bloody good. If it was like reality and he had a craggy, hard, cruel face would we be that engrossed- no.
Does anyone else feel that while Tom Hardy's performance was very good (and I do stress that I liked him very much) he is in terms of physical appearance totally inappropriate for the role? The dark hair looks so unnatural on him and he's too pale.
@derailedbicycle - I'm not sure I'd agree... I've seen pics of gypsies that had pale skin and dark hair. There are many types of gypsies as far as looks go, since gypsies were in a lot of areas of the world and didn't stay in one place either. :) But his performance- oh, yes. I definitely agree with you on that! One of the best Heathcliffs I've seen that filled the role. :)
@honeyphan2 Yeah, I see what you mean, but either way I still think his features overall are not, well, exotic enough if you will. I guess he is passable as a gypsy, but he certainly is a very unusually and atypically looking one. But hey, that's just me! I have to say though he acted so well that I was able to look past his looks, thankfully :)
Anywho, I loved this retelling of the story and I also like your video! Nice work ;)
@derailedbicycle think tom hardy is gorgeous an was a bit shocked to see him in this bit of footage . coz was expectin perfect combination . favourite character , favourite man .
what film is that? can i find it somewhere to see it in streaming? is it a film only for tv? <--- i ask thet because i'did not read anything about it, here in my country (italy) so i think it's a film only for american tv so i can't watch it... please answer and sorry for my english! XD
@Loumetalsinger - After reading your comment I googled- I had no idea! lol They've been dating a year and are engaged to be married now! woo-hoo!! I love romance stories like that, where they meet in the movie and fall in love in real life. :)
@ramo15anos - I think it's a matter of preference...if you are more a romantic than one into ghost stories, this one is best for that. But if you like it to be more ghostly than romantic, the Ralph Fiennes is more supernatural. Also, this one tends to stray from the book and do it's own thing at times- but it still follows the basic outlines of the WH story. Personally, this one is my favorite, but then, I'm a huge romantic and this one has that in spades.... I love the scenes between C & H. :)
I've to study this for my Literature GSCE A level course.. didnt really like the novel when I started out in February ( too long, the yorkshire accent of Joseph was not alike modern english!) , but things change as time goes by- Im nearing the end of the novel now in June, what a lovely, touching love saga... Great Video mate :)
@NotesCollector1 - Thank you! :) Glad you enjoyed it. And I agree, the 19th century way of writing can be a bit off-putting at first for us 21st century readers, but all in all, it's a great novel!
i wonder what you mean by 'stolen it'... it seems to me that all you've done is put someone else's music onto someone else's film (unless you made the film. i don't know).. but surely this is just as much stealing?
@brushuk - I edited it to fit lyrics of song and put transitions in also- 2 people uploaded my vid and tried to pass it off as their editing work. This falls under Fair Use Copyright act and I give credit where credit is due. Also, this gains them more viewers, more buyers, more business. I didn't even know about this new production of WH until I saw someone else's YT music vid to another song. I now own the movie on DVD, and have bought other songs and movies BECAUSE of fanmade videos on YT.
That's a ridiculous assertion. You may as well argue that the producers of the film have merely stolen the story from Emily Bronte.
The creator of this video has put time and effort into collating scenes and working them into fit the song. If you can't see the work or the art in that, then fail.
@williantenado - you're welcome! :) I was also very young when I first heard it and I remember thinking- oh, so cool! That song is about Cathy and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights! I used to sing along with it and pretend to be Cathy. (I was just a kid. ;-))
There has been so many versions of WH and the next one always seams to be worse than the last.
And there is another version again being made now, this stars a Actor called Ed Westwick. The original choice of Cathy was Natalie Portman who ended up backing out of the part, and then Gemma Arterton who decided she was to busy.
So now they have picked a little known actress, and I really not to fussed at their choice.
You know, i LOVED this Cathy...shez exactly the way i picture her. I think the actress did a good job. Unfortunetly, i think they made the wrong choice for Heathcliff...i just didn't 'believe' him. Nobody has ever came close to competing with Laurence Olivier.
I love this video, must have watched it 50 times by now. Oh to kiss Tom Hardy's lips, what a job to have. Great job on the video, best Heathcliff/Cathy one i've seen. I fall in love everytime I watch it.
I think you have done a marvellous job here, It's perfectly put together with the music. I have made and uploaded a couple of Wuthering Heights 2009 videos also. It's my favourite Wuthering Heights film.
Hi honeyphan, thank you for your response; i am currently working on a cathy/heathcliff video will soon be uploading it :-) i make videos too and i just had to make one for these two.
I love this song. I actually thought it was weird the first time I heard it, because I've never heard Kate Bush's voice before. After hearing it again and again I can't stop listening to it. :D
It's also gotten me interested in either watching one of the movies or reading the book. This version of the movie looks good, and your video is very well made!
@Mango38 - thank you! I have no idea if I answered you before or not- the comments are all jumbled now and I can no longer tell - (another fail of youtube *sigh*
But thanks! :) This version of the movie is the best in my opinion- check my playlists at the top of my channel...
oh my dear heathcliff the only man in the world i offer you my whole life and my life after death all for you my soul and love are all yours no one could haunt me as you could. i wish i could erase all your suffering but love is the most important thing you own cathy's heart and true deep love and this is the only true and only precious and everlasting grace
I've been obsessed with the book for years, and I think that Kate Bush captures the essence of it all just sp perfectly! Fuck Romeo and Juliet- Heathcliff and Cathy is the real thing!
Hey --- absolutly love the vid btw ,,, think u captured the couple VERY well --- congrats ,,, can i suggest a song for these two ,, as i cant make vids for shit ,,, cand u can (very well) i would really love to see a vid with this song be made about these two ... sooo just incase, the weakness in me, by Joan Armatrading -- its full of the passion of these two ---well just in case xxx
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :) I did listen to the song- the lyrics are very well for Cathy's POV- but I'll have to think on it. It was a nice song, but it didn't really grab me- NOTHING against the song. But I can only make a vid and do it well if I love the song and it really grabs me. I'll put it on my list of possibilities though and listen to it again, to see if I get inspired. :) I do have several other requests I have to do first though. And a few on my upcoming list too.
was no other Cathy and Heathcliff that i felt more within my blood that Charlotte Riley and Tom Hardy, their compelling passion and tragic story had me crying at nearly every scene of the movie, i am also a writer and my characters are as compelling as Cathy and Heathcliff, these actors to my humble opinion did a magnificent job portraying and giving life to these two disturbed, passionate, wild, tragic lovers. all versions are ecxellent, this one however is exquisite. :) cheers Bea!!
.This movie truly took my breath away, i am a true fan of english literature; from authors such as Jane Austen, Emily Bronte, William Shakespeare to JK Rowlings. i have seen various versions of wuthering heights including the RF one; i must say that there
@charmbones - I like the Ralph Fiennes version too- but not for the romance. It just didn't click for me as well (though I loved the casket scene he did). But this 2009 one feels much more romantic to me- I can feel their love better and that makes his responses later seem much more believable- the other one was more ghostly- which is fine- but I'm more of a romantic, a reason I liked this version better than the RF one. :)
Great thing there are so many versions to appeal to different tastes! :)
@mizdntbstubborn - yeah, I agree! lol But then, if that hadn't happened, the story wouldn't have been tragic or as memorable as it is, and probably they wouldn't still be making remakes of the story today. ;-) Thanks for your comment.
I have seen every version of Wuthering Heights as well as reading the book at least 50 times and I think that the 2009 adaptation is by far and away the best, as is the extended Kate Bush version of the song.
Thank you so much for posting this, I can hardly write with the tears dripping down my face here. Well done Honeyphan2, and thank you for sharing this on YouTube.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this adaption!!

Loumetalsinger 1 year ago
@Loumetalsinger - After reading your comment I googled- I had no idea! lol They've been dating a year and are engaged to be married now! woo-hoo!! I love romance stories like that, where they meet in the movie and fall in love in real life. :)
thanks for sharing!
honeyphan2 1 year ago
is this movie better than the one from 1992?
ramo15anos 1 year ago
@ramo15anos - I think it's a matter of preference...if you are more a romantic than one into ghost stories, this one is best for that. But if you like it to be more ghostly than romantic, the Ralph Fiennes is more supernatural. Also, this one tends to stray from the book and do it's own thing at times- but it still follows the basic outlines of the WH story. Personally, this one is my favorite, but then, I'm a huge romantic and this one has that in spades.... I love the scenes between C & H. :)
honeyphan2 1 year ago
I liked the version with Ralph Fiennes better than this one.
But the story is still so breathtaking after all these years..

NotesCollector1 1 year ago
@NotesCollector1 - Thank you! :) Glad you enjoyed it. And I agree, the 19th century way of writing can be a bit off-putting at first for us 21st century readers, but all in all, it's a great novel!

i wonder what you mean by 'stolen it'... it seems to me that all you've done is put someone else's music onto someone else's film (unless you made the film. i don't know).. but surely this is just as much stealing?
brushuk 1 year ago
@brushuk - I edited it to fit lyrics of song and put transitions in also- 2 people uploaded my vid and tried to pass it off as their editing work. This falls under Fair Use Copyright act and I give credit where credit is due. Also, this gains them more viewers, more buyers, more business. I didn't even know about this new production of WH until I saw someone else's YT music vid to another song. I now own the movie on DVD, and have bought other songs and movies BECAUSE of fanmade videos on YT.
honeyphan2 1 year ago
@brushuk

(I was just a kid. ;-))
honeyphan2 1 year ago
Thanks so much fpr posting, this is how its got to be.
This old song finally came REALLY to life with Tom Hardy,
Emily and Kate surely love it!!!

honeyphan2 1 year ago
There has been so many versions of WH and the next one always seams to be worse than the last.
And there is another version again being made now, this stars a Actor called Ed Westwick. The original choice of Cathy was Natalie Portman who ended up backing out of the part, and then Gemma Arterton who decided she was to busy.
So now they have picked a little known actress, and I really not to fussed at their choice.
misty8385 1 year ago
You know, i LOVED this Cathy...shez exactly the way i picture her. I think the actress did a good job. Unfortunetly, i think they made the wrong choice for Heathcliff...i just didn't 'believe' him. Nobody has ever came close to competing with Laurence Olivier.

I love this song. I actually thought it was weird the first time I heard it, because I've never heard Kate Bush's voice before. After hearing it again and again I can't stop listening to it. :D
It's also gotten me interested in either watching one of the movies or reading the book. This version of the movie looks good, and your video is very well made!

was no other Cathy and Heathcliff that i felt more within my blood that Charlotte Riley and Tom Hardy, their compelling passion and tragic story had me crying at nearly every scene of the movie, i am also a writer and my characters are as compelling as Cathy and Heathcliff, these actors to my humble opinion did a magnificent job portraying and giving life to these two disturbed, passionate, wild, tragic lovers. all versions are ecxellent, this one however is exquisite. :) cheers Bea!!
xtremelovin 1 year ago
Oh, yes, I agree- this Heathcliff and Cathy
did it for me too! lol I'm a writer too, and I
love how well-rounded their characters were!
Whoever had the idea to focus on their
romance and less on the ghostly- well, they
did good by me! lol My favorite version,
hands-down! :) Or maybe thumbs-up? ;-)
honeyphan2 1 year ago
.This movie truly took my breath away, i am a true fan of english literature; from authors such as Jane Austen, Emily Bronte, William Shakespeare to JK Rowlings. i have seen various versions of wuthering heights including the RF one; i must say that there
xtremelovin 1 year ago
I don't like this Catherine or Heatcliff. xd
I love 1992 version ;)
charmbones 1 year ago
@charmbones - I like the Ralph Fiennes version too- but not for the romance. It just didn't click for me as well (though I loved the casket scene he did). But this 2009 one feels much more romantic to me- I can feel their love better and that makes his responses later seem much more believable- the other one was more ghostly- which is fine- but I'm more of a romantic, a reason I liked this version better than the RF one. :)
Great thing there are so many versions to appeal to different tastes! :)

mizdntbstubborn 1 year ago 3
@mizdntbstubborn - yeah, I agree! lol But then, if that hadn't happened, the story wouldn't have been tragic or as memorable as it is, and probably they wouldn't still be making remakes of the story today. ;-) Thanks for your comment.

I have seen every version of Wuthering Heights as well as reading the book at least 50 times and I think that the 2009 adaptation is by far and away the best, as is the extended Kate Bush version of the song.
