While I commend your accuracy, as other people have clearly pointed out, and I'm sure you know if you're this good, you're getting no beater swingback distance, even for this speed. Have you thought about maybe putting some practice time in at slower tempos and focusing specifically on getting a lot of power out of your hits and moving up from there? Maybe even setting your pedals to heavier settings for your practice time. I'm interested to check out your other videos.
I have nothing against heel-toe, but THAT IS FUCKING LAME, your beaters are just tapping the "drum" maybe 1 cm away from your drumpad!! Just stupid...
great work.. Personally I wouldn't feel good about my beaters being 1/2 a centimeter from the heads the whole time though... Then i couldn't play fast without triggers.During a live show it doesn't really matter how far your beaters are going back though.. id mosh to your beats for sure.. :)
Nice playing there- you master this technique very well!! And since triggers are invented ( and most metal drummers use them these days to increase stroke power at speeds 200 bpm and beyond ) there are absolutely no shame in playing heel-toe...
No- what I find TOTALLY lame ( and sadly many metal bands do this ) is the use of to kick drums- when only one of them is used- the other one serves as a dummy- just plain stupid!!! It look's better- I know...
@huuurgh I agree with you, it's not all about speed. The reason for me personally wanting to learn to reach these speeds, is to use it in a creative way for example in songs which i'm currently writing. I didn't make this video to try and say fuck you i'm fastest to people, cause im clearly not the fastest. If you look around on youtube you can find plenty of other 300 bpm videos. I'm just pleased/ surprised no one has slagged me off for using heel-toe yet?
heel-toe is pretty creative if you ask me. i don't understand the "heel up singles purist" mindset. there's nothing wrong with new techniques... lack of innovation leads to artistic death.
@bentheiburg yeah and personally i love(d) how it feels. that said, if say you were playing a single stroke roll with your hands, say right hand floor tom, left hand rack tom, it would have a pleasant alternating sound. if you played the same number of notes but with two hits floor tom then two hits rack tom (double stroke roll in essence), it would NOT sound the same as the alternating one. ever. no matter how even you play. doing both is the ultimate goal - doubles AND singles.
@bentheiburg Its because heel up requires more strength and agility and gives you more powerful kicks instead of going super fast with very soft kicks that activates a trigger no matter how hard you kick. Its like a ''cheat'' but helps you get faster. Check out Georges Kollias, he is incredibly fast and uses heel up that requires incredible superhuman strength and stamina. To that kind of double bassdrum I give props. Heel up is just an easy way to go.
@Umadbrah Using an amp is only to make the sound louder, and actually makes the playing kinda harder since you have to be a lot more careful about string noise and palm muting, doesnt make anything easier when on the other hand, using triggers for the bass drum in this case allows him to reach ridiculous speed without the need to actually ''hit'' the bass drum normally or with a force that would produce a sound. Hes only touching the pads...
@huuurgh what i want to know about comments like your, is, who the fuck said it is a contest? who said it is about speed? who said it is about being fast? no one. go hate somewhere else
Haha this is fucking awesome. Don't worry if you get any comments from double bass snobs (who never have videos of their own). Almost all metal drummers trigger, and if you trigger, it's going to sound the same regardless of how much distance there is between the beater and the head. Great job.
@DethMetalDrums Hello, cheers for the comment. Yeah one day i will be able to do singles hopefully. Thanks for your advuce in previous e-mails. Take it easy
Killer man, I'm not a big fan of playing with tiny beater distance like this, but its definitely not easy, and hey, no one's gonna argue with 300! Very few guys can touch that stuff.
@thebeasel Nah, I play all singles, with as much power and beater distance as I can get. George and Derek were the guys that changed my approach to that. I can play around 240 if I warm up, but I don't really do the extreme metal thing much anymore.
whats with all the hate? this is what all these dudes are doing these days

@TemeDrummer96 Yup...no impact at all, you could put a tortilla chip in between the pad and the beaters and it wouldnt even break XD
