Yes, I remember seeing this in the 1980s up here in NYC as well. You say it's originally from 1965? Guess the local TV stations got a lot of mileage out of it.
The "Version C" opening began with the scene from "His Mouse Friday" where the wave flicks Tom onto the island and uses a couple of other water-related gags scenes from other T&J cartoons. All three versions were sent out by MGM with the 1977 syndication package, and every once in a while a print from the 1965 CBS series -- including the modified opening and closing titles -- would show up in syndication.
Because Boomerang, 'toon', presents the original theatrical cartoons only- this title is from the half-hour "package" of edited Tom & Jerry shorts (and other MGM cartoons) that aired on CBS, and eventually, in syndication during the '70s and '80s...
Back in the early 80's, one of the local independents here in D.C., WTTG ch.5 used to use this one every day, BUT, they would only use the first 30 seconds of it and ALMOST ALWAYS cut it off right before Tom hit's the ground with the cuckoo clock on his head, and go to the cartoon. Oh, and they would mix the 60's T & J's with the one's from the mid 70's Hanna Barbera's on ABC when they were friends instead of enemies. Memories of my late teen years! Thanks.
hi what year did d.c ch 5 wttg air the tom and jerry comedy show ? i rember seeing it on wttg as a kid i just want to know what year and do you rember when wmar ch 2 baltimore aired this opening ?
Enjoyed watching both the A & B versions of this open. There's another version on youtube (with remastered sound) that shows the 1965 CBS Saturday morning "Tom and Jerry" open & close. [Note that it's listed on imdb as just "Tom and Jerry" (1965) without the word 'Show'.]
Wow, this brings back memories!
