I can't open my kgb files in this program. It keeps saying Directory name is not valid. Can someone please help me with this? It would be greatly appreciated.

I Got KGB Archiver, but whenever i tried to open a ZIP File it would go to extract it or something, so i deleted it, and NOW when i got to open a ZIP file it says the file cant be found and wont let me open it!

HELP!

@1337Divine Right click the file > Open with... > choose 7zip, winzip or winrar (you need one of those on the pc) and check the box that makes it default. That should fix it.

ive done once compression for a 200mb files successfully to 20mb. But the second time it just didnt work i wonder why ......

@Anstar2011 It will compress, but just a little. Movies are some of the hardest files to compress, sometimes the file even gets bigger. Also you would have to decompress for ages in order to play a movie.

Try converting the movie to divx or h.264 with a converter such as AVS ( /watch?v=NZYBXbIzRok )

if only KGB supports multi computer processing the file would process the other part equally and faster without buying the best processor

because compressing with one computer is a hassle even with the core i7 installed on one computer aka the fastest processor up to 5 ghz

twistereli i have 2 rar files size of 5mb contains the data of 1.85gb, i have read all the comments and 1 guy said with core2quad 8gb ram it takes 4 day to compress, i have 3 giga processer 2 gb ram, how long will it take to compress 2 gb to 5 mb ???

@niazi92 It's a wild guess, but maybe 12 hours or so depending on how much is running in the background etc.

Maybe you could let it run 30 minutes, see how much % is done and then calculate how many 30 minutes should be added to come to 100%

@2573943 What kind of files are you compressing? Files like movies, images, or already compressed files can hardly get any smaller.

@2573943 i don't really get what you're trying to say, but compressing a compresed file like zip rar 7z pk3 iso and so on doesn't make it smaller, often even bigger.

You can unpack the files of the iso or whatever it is and compress those files as kgb.

@AydrianUploads Depends how big the decompressed file should be, what kind of files are compressed etc. But if it's really one of those extremely compressed ones it could take 6 hours with a quite good PC.

It's all very relative to your pc and the files inside.

Just as normal, or use another unpacker liker 7-zip.

(.kgb can only be opened with kgb archiver!)

Changing file extension names isn't a good idea.

if it's .rar. .zip .tar or something, you can open it with 7z

If it's .kgb, you need to use KGB

File damaged mostly means something went wrong with (probably) downloading the file. Redownload or recreate the file, wherever it came from...

7000 to 20 mb is maybe a bit overdone, but it can compress huge files in very tiny files. It depends on what your source file is like. If the file already has a sort of compression it wont shrink very much, so txt files will get very small, while videos wont.

@STELIOS155 You can compress 15GB to 3mb with the archiver. I know of somebody who compressed GTA IV down to 3mb, but he has a quad core processor, and 8GB RAM, and it took him 4 days to do it. So, if you have an average computer, it's impossible.

@twistereli : it's like when u say "Archive", u pronounce it: "Arshive"(surely not the 'sh' but the 'ch' combined together)...so "Archiver" : "Arsheever(again, the ch and not sh.)

ofcourse, it's not a media converter, it's a compressor. There are other special applications for PSP movie compression, just try to google it.

kgb can do rar. 5 gig to 10 mb is hard but possible. Depends what system the game already uses to compress its own files. Like quake games have pk3 which is an alternative to rar, so compressing a compressed file wont do a lot. While big games that aren't compressed at all will be very tiny (especially if it's lots of code and not so much models)

Strange, then better use winrar, because kgb only delivers tiny .kgb files .rar files are sometimes bigger than .rars from winrar!

if you're not using the pc at the same time i would set it on the maximum speed, when you want to use it switch it back to high or normal when it's for stuff like Reading mails or something, if it's for youtube or even gaming i would set it to something lower/slower.

priority means how urgent it is. So yes, the higher you set it the faster it will decompress.

I have been trying to decompress password protected kgb files sent to me by a friend, but I keep getting "the directory is invalid" messages. When I change the extension to kge, the program at least prompts for the password, but then I get a "wrong password" message - when I know that the pass is correct. Any suggestions?

KGB archiver is a program that takes a lot of RAM (virtual memory)

You can set the extract priority to a lower value if possible so it takes longer but it will be able to run.

Also opening task manager with ctrl alt del and watching the processes and sorting them by how much RAM they're using could help you to find out what other unneeded programs could be closed so you have more free RAM.

I hope that clears it all up a bit, if not you can ask me :)

I think it can, but i recommend powerISO or something similar to create and open iso's with because it will be faster and smaller file size.

Kgb archiver only compresses files to .kgb if you want them really small, other filetypes are normal sized

no you can't KGB is needed to open .kgb files, maybe winrar will add the extention in a newer release, but that might take a long time.

Without kgb archiver you can't unzip kgb files ofcourse.

But if you mean rar and zip files you should get either winzip, winrar, 7-zip or peazip.

you need to disable UAC...

go to control panel...

User accounts

choose your account and select "turn on or off UAC...

Uncheck the tick box... and click OKAY...

restart ur comp... and it'll work perfectly!
