In it the lead guitarist was talking about how refreshing it was not having to do "guitar Olympics" anymore. The Kurt Cobains and Alanis Morrisettes made music more about songwriting than musicianship. Sure there were still bands like the Pumpkins that could riff all day with great lyrics. However, most 80s acts were just singing about getting laid. That's what killed them.

Well, a di-marzio pickup in trebble position, and a Gibsby tremolo on a les-paul... hum ! Les Paul guitars have to be treated good, do not offense these old ladies, they were used by Led Zeppelin and so on. If you want a vibrato and di-marzio pickups, then buy a good Ibanez and let your Gibson intact, in order to do what she's best for.

What's nice about this is that it proves what a fantastically, physically capable guitar player Billy is, and what a great talent he is because despite being able to play that obnoxious trash, he created an ingenious style of music and nobody who knows he songwriting prowess can argue what a smart choice that was.

Corgan definitely shouldn't be underrated. Yeah this is mediocre as far as "shreds" go (i still couldn't play it, currently in the process of "re-teaching" myself the guitar after not having played in like 3 years). However, the solos on Siamese Dream? Wow. They are spectacular. Cherub Rock, Hummer, Soma, Mayonnaise, Geek USA, all have absolutely ripping perfectly crafted solos. I Am One, Siva and Rhinoceros likewise from Gish.
