As the British settlers came and established our first Government type system many laws were created that warranted that all Maori give their ownership of land to Pakeha, those that did not adhere to it were either punished or killed. Only until 1976 was there the Waitangi Tribunal that had the power to distinguish what was taken rightfully or wrongfully from Maori, which we see is still taking place today.

The war had nothing to do with Pakeha taking Maori land but rather the unfairness and disadvantages that were being presented to Maori. You wonde why they get so many privilieges? Well not only is it because of the ToW (Treaty of Waitangi if u dont get it) but I personally believe it is because we are now trying to right wrong. When the British settlers came they created many laws that gave no power or rights to Maori, some which included the right to take away Maori land, those that did not adhere to it were punished or killed and no-one was ever charged for those crimes. They taught Maori kids in school that they were way of life was wrong, that speaking Maori was wrong, and was punished if caught. They did not allow Maori to vote because they did not own land, which as I stated was forcefully taken.

They did not provide maori with any sufficient work opportunities but rather labour based, demeaning jobs that did not enhance any life skills. yeah they did, not all of them though. my parents met 1 whos grandma was a sex slave whos Maori "owners" sold her to a white guy who set her free, but they fell in love and yeah.. the rest is history.

Ok so your half cast, therefore you should be able to see things from both sides in a good and bad light but not to the extent where its almost "pro" something over the other.
