@cristobelle56 Thank you. I am using the grid paper partially to save cost, and partially to let the viewers know the relative positions of strokes. I really wish that bronze paperweight is made of gold.
@artvirtue I really appreciate all yr answers to my questions on this beautiful subject (calligraphy) which I know nothing about. Since subscribing to yr channel at Youtube, I must say I have a little insight now. I wish I could join in the discussion with some of yr fans but have to keep away from lack of knowledge on this. Oh, so the paperweight is made of bronze. Must have cost a bundle ... best
@cristobelle56 Thank you. I believe by reading and viewing sources of Chinese calligraphy anyone will have a big picture of this art. Please feel free to share your questions and do not worry about asking wrong questions or using wrong terms. I usually include some clues in YouTube more info.
That bronze paperweight cost $15 from a clearance sale.
@artvirtue i do read most of yr notes in the 'more info' section. i especially enjoy looking at hieroglyphs from books used by you. Calligraphers would surely own a huge collection of paraphernalia including paper weights, brushes, ink slabs, writing paper, etc. I enjoy looking at them ! Best,
@cristobelle56 Thanks. My experiences were quite different...
First, I did not own quality four treasures until I met the owner of ForbiddenCity2008 on e-Bay. Then I began to upgrade my equipments. But I own the best versions of calligraphy books and models (my money was spent there) since 20 years ago. And unlike many others, I focused on 金文 (bronze inscriptions of Shang Dynasty) for more than half of my practice time during 1990's. It's after that I spent more time with Kaishu and Lishu.
@artvirtue Thanks for the info on yr experiences. I'm sure your money was well spent on this interest. I'd like to know about the four treasures if you have the time plse (perhaps I could check this out myself at yr website). Is the shang dynasty inscriptions another type of calligraphy like the kaishu and lishu. Plse excuse my ignorance, best
@cristobelle56 I still have a lot of Four Treasures I bought from ForbiddenCity2008 (e-Bay) five years ago at good prices. They are still new in boxes. I will share some in the future. The Bronze Inscription (dated after the Oracle Bone Inscription) of the Shang Dynasty is a subset of Seal Scripts, as listed in my Website > History > Shang Dynasty.
@cristobelle56 A lady who enjoys practicing calligraphy with me shared: "If I don't write it beautifully enough as a beginner, they won't come arrest me... that why I need to RELAX and concentrate." And she improves alot.
Sometimes grid-lined papers are used in yr writing. I guess this is to guide the writer ? the gold paper-weight is beautiful, Best
