i just recently found an original robotron 2084 arcade machine at Stella's Lounge in downtown Grand Rapids. You guys should check it out they have a lot of cool classics like Joust, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat II, Tron, Galaga, Ms.pacman and more.

This is another great game that I grew up. I believe that this is the first "dual stick shooter" if I'm not mistaken.

if you want to get through the tank waves 1 shoot as many quarks(boxes) as you can(forgetting the humans) 2 STAY AWAY from the edges 3 at some point stop moving for a split second then start moving again the i think the games program tries to lead its shots and stopping for a second throws it off

This game was like religion to me, funny thing is It came out two years before I was born in 84 and I first played it in 1996, I really dont care much for any games before the NES era, but robotron was different, I played the hell out of it and can still pick it up and have a good time, its the only old "high score" game iv really liked, I cant think of another game as intense and brutal yet fun at the same time, truly a timeless game, its like tetris but better,this game will make you its bitch

I've read that you shouldn' t fire at all at the tanks. They will. stop shooting after 20 shots.

My advice for the tank robots, keep aiming for the balls...

At the begining of the Tank screen there is always more of the little squares that morph into tanks on either the top or the bottom of the screen. Look fast before they start moving, figure which has more and take out as many from the more side as you can. You will get far less tanks to deal with and still be able to grab loads of people.

best thing to do on tanks is start out rotating the fire in a 360 1-2 times then aim for the area of the most "balls'. Don't really worry about people on these levels. Try getting them before they "hatch". And you hit the most by shooting diagonally, not horizontal or vertical.

OMG, a step back in time for me, I remember when i would spend quarters all day trying to beat this game, my second favorite of all time next to Defender. back then we didnt care about terrorizm, taliban, Nuke's or anything. Life was grand!!!!

The balls that the tanks shoot always bounce and then aim straight for the player. The trick is to stop start stop when moving. It's easier said than done, mind.

I have the CD for Robotron 2084 and the other Williams arcade classics for Windows 95.

My best scores were usually around 1,400,000; while reaching close to the 50th wave.

For the Tank waves: Try to shoot the Tanks before they spawn. When they do spawn don't get too far away from them or they react different. If you die and respawn then stay in the same place for about 2 seconds, because if you try to move right away the Tanks act differnet and kill you quicker.

Hit the PS button, it brings up a menu go to the controller options, turn on analog. The analog sticks are always off by default on older psx games.

LOL sounds like you are very passionate about Robotron 2084 (i am too LOL) it was an awesome game bitd and the version i play now is the playstation 1 version.My highest score bitd was over 3,000,000 but i can get nowhere near that on the playstation version (must be old age and my reflexes are slower LOL)

these interviews show that CD's could have been a practicle use of movies and videos. Playstation had a great ability to produce VHS or UMD quality video. Either way good review =D

Bird Ass lives on even in a Robotron 2084 review! I love it! :) Nice solid review as always Mark. Looks like a real nice port from the arcade on the PS1 and with all the extras included it seems hard to go wrong. Besides teh disc comes with Bird Ass as well as Robotron 2084! ;)
