She's either Very Shy or an Extreme Introvert. This is based on my knowledge of psychology & the fact that I'm an extreme introvert. I can't tell you how many times someone I've eventually become very friendly with that initially thought I disliked them, when that was not the case at all. When I receive gifts I have to remind myself to really verbally express my appreciation & show body language & facial expressions that show just how thrilled I am because otherwise they think I don't like it.
The winner makes it clear this moment is 'too much' for her. You know what's REALLY too much? Not being able to pay your mortgage or auto bill! People w/ those predicaments, who could have won, would have also said it's "too much!" On the one hand...she should have made a bigger deal about winning. A lot of people went to a lot of trouble to give it to her. On the other hand, I've been to Marathon, FL and I don't feel the need to go back...ever. And a lot of people don't realize that it costs a lot of money to win a "free" house and car (taxes). We live in a country where life is such that you can work really hard and still watch your co-workers get all the promotions and raises, where sometimes you have to work more than two jobs to ensure that your family has something to eat, and no matter how many times you enter a contest and pray everyday that you can have just some kind of shelter and call it all yours without having to worry about rent, someone who is clearly undeserving of such a prize ends up winning it.

Well, I watched it, and it's an hour of my life I'll never get back. I'm on the west coast, which NEVER wins HGTV contests, so I had no expectations. I've never seen Laura Lake, so that was my first introduction, and she is SICKENING. She needs a Ritalin pump installed under her clothes.....good god. If the winners knew in advance, maybe they'd run the numbers and realized they couldn't afford the place after taxes, so couldn't get excited... or maybe she is a snob, or...she itches a lot...
She seemed shocked, extremely camera shy, and I think she may also have anxiety issuses. Some people just cannot be in front of cameras. There were some tears though which leads me to believe she was somehow affected by the gift. On the one hand...she should have made a bigger deal about winning. A lot of people went to a lot of trouble to give it to her. On the other hand, I've been to Marathon, FL and I don't feel the need to go back...ever. And a lot of people don't realize that it costs a lot of money to win a "free" house and car (taxes). Regardless, she should have thought of all the people who really wanted to win that house and at least faked some gratitude. What a slap in the face to a lot of people.

We live in a country where life is such that you can work really hard and still watch your co-workers get all the promotions and raises, where sometimes you have to work more than two jobs to ensure that your family has something to eat, and no matter how many times you enter a contest and pray everyday that you can have just some kind of shelter and call it all yours without having to worry about rent, someone who is clearly undeserving of such a prize ends up winning it.

I don't blame the woman at all! She's annoyed because she probably did the research to find out exactly how big of a turd she just won. I live on Hilton Head Island and am familiar with the area. The home is one of THREE built in a development 30 miles west of Hilton Head that has since filed for bankruptcy. This development is composed of a dirt lot and two eyesore signposts off of US 278 and I-95. It was intended to be a self-contained city until everyone gave up. Congratulations, you lose.

This is one of my husband's physicians!! She helped him overcome a really bad illness that could have taken his life. Give her a break! She's a really sweet woman. She looked nervous, and probably wasn't expecting to suddenly be on TV while in the middle of a private social gathering. We owe her a lot!!

I understand what you are saying. My husband & I struggle from week to week. Sometimes we have to eat mac & cheese several times a day. It would even be nice to have a child with him, but we can't afford it right now, maybe never. We'll probably live in apartments for the rest of our lives, or until, God forbid, I inherit a house. By then I'll probably be to old to have kids.

Well, I watched it, and it's an hour of my life I'll never get back. I'm on the west coast, which NEVER wins HGTV contests, so I had no expectations. I've never seen Laura Lake, so that was my first introduction, and she is SICKENING. She needs a Ritalin pump installed under her clothes.....good god. If the winners knew in advance, maybe they'd run the numbers and realized they couldn't afford the place after taxes, so couldn't get excited... or maybe she is a snob, or...she itches a lot...

She seemed shocked, extremely camera shy, and I think she may also have anxiety issuses. Some people just cannot be in front of cameras. If you watch it again, you can see on the part when the host says there are millions of people watching, she looks at the camera with a terrified look and then turns away and starts crying. She was so freaked out, that it sucked for us watching cause the reaction was so not entertaining. Owell....

At first I was annoyed at her apparent apathy. However, upon watching it again, I think she was just stunned and perhaps shy and maybe even a bit buzzed. If that over-the-top host was in my face like that I would be overwhelmed into silence, as well. I can't stand it when loud people get in my face and I'm thinking perhaps that was her issue, as well. I would guess that is a completely made-up rumor that there is no friend of the family saying any such mean thing. The world is not really about our ethnicity and the contest was run fairly by an independent organization.
