Along with Skoda, I cannot help but imagine how Tatra would have turned out if the Czech republic did not go communist and as a result had more money to develop new cars. I have looked up quite a few prototype cars from the Eastern Bloc such as the FSM Beskid, Trabant P610 and others, and find it pretty sad that a lack of money as a result of a poor system of government prevented them from reaching production and giving car makers like Fiat, Toyota and perhaps even BMW a bloody nose.

It's really too bad Tatra were never officially imported to the USA. I've been looking up Tatra cars over the past few years now, and while it may not be to everyone's liking, I know it's something I can live with, a 3 litre air-cooled V8 engine over the rear driving wheels, different handling charactoristics, more aerodynamic styling.

I like the fact that the engine is still air-cooled and still driving the rear wheels. It's too bad VW didn't follow Tatras example and offered a 6 cylinider or a V8 air-cooled engine.

Going by the looks it seems to be a great car, and 230 km/h isn't bad either, what a shame that western prejudice prevented it from being more successful.

Hey .. no problem whasoever my friend .. I'm Welsh as it happens .. I have nearly 10,000 kilos of Tatra 603 spares in stock, and visit CZ at least once a year .. I find the Czech accent and slightly awkward most endeering.

It is not car Tatra 700 is tank, you needent any airbags :D...Cost of Tatra T700/2 LONG 4,3 V8 is 1.200.000 CZK it is 75.000 USD (second hand vehicle) size of engine is 4400 CCM

Beautiful cars and built like a tank, but the rear mounted engine and drive axle makes handling a bit tricky. I read that more German police officers died from driving Tatras hard into corners than any other brand of car.

Always liked Tatras, they are so unusual. I saw one of these in Poland last year and unless you have seen one of these beasts for real, you can't appreciate the sheer road presence the t700 has...a really impressive car.
