I'm no construction worker or anything, but have worked with a few excavators off the books. The official drivers need licences and insurance to operate in public areas.

But as for school, there are 16 year olds driving the worlds largest dump trucks wieghing in at 260 Tonns so as far as qualifications go I doubt you need much more than experience.

I should imagine working in mud like this guy here takes some doing

you're better off with expeirience and common sense than going to school, just don't work on mats like he's doing in this video until you've been around it for a while and seen people working on mats, sometimes it gets tricky
