  • haha ..love the video ..nice drawing ..and your'e really cute :)

  • U don't look like hear, she looks like U :D

  • wow, now i wish i could paint lol...do those symmetry lines really help? i never use them and my drawings come out accurate enough. when i look at stuff here and deviantart, portraits are always so smooth, is it more because of the paper being used or the pencil? smooth as in, no unwanted white specs that always miss when you shade.

  • So do comic book artists take this much care for detail and symmetry? If so i feel bad because they have to do over 10 thousand mini of what you are drawing..... 0_o

  • daiing u defenetly doo look like her ur hella cute

  • what is that pen thing and can it rub out???

  • marry me?

  • thts a gd show

  • OMG YOU LOOK JUST LIKE RAMONA!!!

  • you are adorable!

  • Shut the rrrr up

  • Omigod SHE'S AMAZING. I don't think I'd ever be able to draw something like that.

  • you look like julie powers :)

  • @FFXobsessed Haha- Actually to be honest I think I look more like Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aubrey Plaza mixed together. o__O

  • can u make a drawing of cleo de nile plz from monster high

  • @barbieworld369 I'm sorry. I don't know what that is. :-(

  • actually i thought u look more like julie from the movie btw great work!!

  • @ADEL1994 Other than having the same hairstyle I don't think she looks anything like Aubrey Plaza.

  • Leilani Joy portrait demo by Ramona Flowers :))

  • Hey Wat were the tools u were using as the grey lead

  • @Quadbik3 Grey lead usually comes from a PENCIL.

  • you look like ramona flowers

  • im really tempted to unlike it just because you're such a good artist>> im kinda jelly O.o

  • lOvE! THank you so much. Some great tips for a portrait-er like myself..is that a word.. I don't think so. Could you please please please do a full on face view. frontal face view demonstration. I've never seen the whole oval/circle thing before and it looked like an interesting way to establish the head/hair w/ the frontal view. ANyway thanks again LOVE watching you love your art :)

  • ... what's your deviant account name??? O.o

  • @musicMunchie96 It's LeilaniJoy

  • that must of took ages to draw

  • @ZhyperKazeGaming I should. I love Chi so much!

  • which pencil do you use? xx

  • @ckekman3 I use a lot of different pencils. I think most of them are Faber Castell.

  • You remind me of flo from those progressive commercials. Love you're artwork

  • @xVomittttx Yikes! I can't stand her or those commercials. :-x Glad you like the art though! ^__^

  • You said anyone could take a photo and that theres not much sense in copying a photo 1:1- im sry but i cant quite agree.

yeah, anybody can take a photo- sure, but good photos require skill, knowledge and creativity. (breitenbach-fotografie.de)

I myself am not a photographer, I never wanted to, I prefer drawing for various reasons

but I DO know a photographer, and its much more than just hitting a trigger

i do agree that copying a photo 1:1 isn't exactly the most useful thing though

  • @Therrazin So sorry! I didn't mean it that way- I have the utmost respect for photographers as artists and I love photography. I just feel that in drawing- specifically- it's important to make it your own. If you perfectly render a photograph it does indeed take great technical drawing skills but in the end you are just repeating the work that the photographer already did and in essence copying them. I prefer to use photos as reference and make the art original. :-)

  • @MissLeilaniJoy I didn't take it that way at all. I think you just meant to make the picture your own style, not just copy it like a machine would do, i.e. a camera. Thank you for the great tutorial. Looking forward to more!! :-)) xo

  • @bellajune320 :-)

  • @Therrazin well, then u could take a bad photo and turn it into an amazing draw :3

  • @Nandanyx True! Actually I do that all the time- Even with some not-so-great stock photos but you can just use the elements you need and invent the rest.

  • I thought you were her at first ...

  • I've been drawing for a while and i found your tips very useful even if i already knew the information the way you put it in a new light is really awesome. great video for beginners and for people who have been drawing for a while too, faces are seriously the hardest to grasp.

  • I love love LOVE the Scott Pilgrim VS the World comics and I love the movie! You did such a good job capturing Ramona, I actually feel like your picture really is the perfect blend of the movie Ramona and the comic book Ramona.

  • @MarissaFaithful Thank you! That's a huge compliment and exactly what I was going for!

  • Found it intressting thanks, you learn a few new things everyday. :)

  • screw those jerkbutts you are adorable and good at everythign sfkldsja

  • @whoriharaizaya Lol thank you!

i may of got my self a little inspiration ~ \(>w<)/

  • Great job ^^ if some of you look for other How To Draw Videos you shoud check out Marc Crilley you may know some of his stuff like Miki Falls or Brodys Gohst just wanna share it ^.-

  • Thank the tips were really helpful, the ones about seeing the face more in geometrical shape is good because it helps people that take a more logical approach more left brained people :)

  • You are really talented, love your style, you inspire me to try out my new water colors!

You also do really look like her a lot, like if you had your hair down I think you would look just like her :)

  • this really helped me thank you so much !!

  • I like your technique to make the face and is easier than the one I use greetings from mexico

  • I was also told the nose was half way between the eyes and the chin. but after drawing many slightly off looking portraits, i figured out that is closer to half way between the lowest point of the eyebrows and the chin. i think if you check your drawing, you can see you corrected it that way too.

I wasnt too sure about your drawing at the beginning of this video, but the result is very nice. I like the style :)

  • @chiquitapaulita Good point! Well the truth is that everyone's faces are slightly different- that is why we all look distinctive. I think the rules are more of a general guideline just to get started then you need to make the necessary adjustments to achieve a likeness. :-)

  • you're beautiful :D

  • You talk a lot and that's strangely hot.

Anyway, I like your style, very 50's (my perception), and geometrize the nose helped me a lot. Thanks and nice day :)

  • @humancitou It's a tutorial..... Aren't you supposed to talk? >__< Glad the video helped. :-)

  • It´s better with no sound.

  • @GvanGarrett What purpose does a comment like this serve? And why are you watching my VIDEO BLOG if you find me so annoying? There are plenty of other boring drawing tutorials out there..... without sound... Just sayin.

  • @MissLeilaniJoy LOL Your seriously too nice! I couldn't be as nice when STUPID people make moronic comments like that. I have a big bag of really naughty words ready for idiots. :)

  • wow i like all your paintings i wish id paint like you, my future is to be an artis

    :D

    eee

  • thanks for the great tips! ive been struggling with finding my own art style. I really love the cartoony-stylish style, but when I draw I tend to make myself copy the picture as exactly as I can :|

  • awesome...

  • thank you ! from france

  • I really want to know how did u draw the hair :(

  • @dexter3291 I talked about that in this video- Check out 8:25 of the video.

  • @dexter3291 8:25 of this video

  • The final drawing was soooooooooo cooool! BTW, it'd been better if you colored the hair Sky Blue . But still, SUPER COOL! :DDDD I'm jealous though. :(( YOU REALLY LOOK LIKE HER! :D

  • @SuperBoomboxBoy I actually did a second version of her with blue hair! I can't decide which I like better! You can see it in my etsy shop or on my deviant art page. :-)

  • you seem familiar.... i wonder where ..... TV?

  • I'm doing Art and Design at College =) i suck at drawing people unless it is manga (which is only marginally better) and i found this video really helpful. thank you :)

  • wow you're awesome in drawing and also quite pretty :) they seem to go together :D

  • you guys related? o.o

  • IT'S BEAUTIFUL! At first I thought your eye-technique is a little weird, but it turned out amazing! I'll give it a try someday. And your nose is really good, I liked the box-shape you used to draw it right. It turned out amazing, I really hope I could draw like you someday.

  • si eres muy parecida a ramona flowers, XD

  • I want you to be my art teacher lol !!

  • this is actually what I have been doing for the past few months., i love interpretating photographs of faces and exaggerating some parts :) and it's not really like caricature.. or caricature-ish. you know what i mean. more like illustration :') Thank you for this video, I'm applying to art college at the moment and am kind of struggling with my portfolio, seeing as we were given a brief I felt I lost some of my identity. This video has reminded me of what my art actually means to me :)

  • You do look a bit like Mary Elizabeth Winstead, your face is just a bit elongated is all.

  • you inspire me

  • @Sileni WTF?! Sorry but that has to be the weirdest thing I've ever heard.

  • @MissLeilaniJoy missleilanjoi i dont see nothing wrong, wierd yeah.

  • @MissLeilaniJoy Your teeth are fine O_O

  • @AnabelNSalvia It isn't horrible looking just...wasn't expecting such big perly white choppers!

  • @Sileni remember the episode on tv show Friends, when Ross whitened his teeths?

This indeed looks like it :)

  • @Animas42 Thank You! Hey at lease somebody else agreed with me and realized it wasn't a failed attempt in trolling. God those teeths were like "BAM!" Joker smile going on there. whitening must be hella expensive these days...

  • @Sileni What?

  • @Sileni Well i think she's really hot!!

  • @MichkebabTheOnlyOne Has got NOTHING to do with her teeth freaking me out in first 30 seconds soon as she opened her mouth! ...Also she was pretty cool about it.

  • @Sileni Everyone has a right to their own personal preference. I feel lucky to have large white teeth, but you are perfectly welcome to prefer small yellowish ones.... I'm also glad I don't feel the need to insult people just because we have some sort of online anonymity. I'm sure your teeth are absolutely perfect by the way- not too big- not too white, right? ;-) Cheers.

  • @Sileni Really? If your gonna comment, why not say something about the art. Why you dissing her beautiful white teeth that she took the time to maintain? Like i always say "Don't hate, Appreciate" Appreciate what she's presenting even if you like it or not. So get a grip, Hater!

  • It'll Be Pretty Cool If The Moon Had A Crater On The Left Side From When Her Vegin BF Punched A Hole In It

  • THAT IS f****** AMAZING

  • YAY you said anime XD

  • Thank you :) I... I love you. :')

  • I don't see the point either of copying a photo, slaving it myself to copy the model for the sake of accuracy stresses me out. Like you I like to use them as references only. Great posting!

  • "Guess N Check Artist." We love that title. Great advice and techniques Leilani.

"Push a little, pull it back a little. Draw a little, erase a little." - brilliant.

Keep up the great work. We're watching!

  • What did you spray on the drawing at 9:12?

  • @courtneynoelle1 Spray fixative to prevent the graphite from smudging. I have another video explaining how it works called "Tools of the Trade"

  • OK THE EARLYER COMENT WAS MADE BEFORE THE 01:24 minute.... anyhow........

    How is that possible?

    Amazing woman!
