  • I lived there a year. Last year in fact... the value of the bolivar dropped to 8bsf for $1 and I was making about 300Bsf a week. the minimum wage when I was there was like 25bsf a day I think. less if you lived. There were jobs that paid less though.

  • its funny how that 30% percent thing is not true at all... im getting 800 bolivares a month.... which is 1 bs.f : 7 dollars right now xD if you dont live you much dont know whats going in this country... people just see big numbers and think the presidents is a big heroo... ALL LIES

  • Go ChaveZ! Viva Chavez!

  • lol that isn't going to work, higher wages means higher production costs and therefore prices dumbass. the inflation is coming from the money supply. inflation is nor 30%, i gues that dumbass socialist is going to find out the hard way.

  • support for Chavez from Europa, USA and UK...not surprise for me...all people that say "Go Chavez" never live here in Chavez kingdom to suffer his horrible government full with inflaytion, crime, corruption, censura and put you in prison if you criticize him or close your TV and Radio station. • trying to buy votes from people who don't understand inflation

pathetic. what a pathetic state of affairs.

  • this man can't save because all of his savings potential is being ROBBED through inflation. His children are being robbed of a better future built on savings and frugal living so chavez can hold power and still people praise him. pathetic.

  • Socialism and Communism doesn't work. The more a goverment gets involve in trying to fix something the more fucked up it gets.

  • Amen, FREEEEEEEEDOM!!!

  • sweden?

  • Lets not forget that in 2008 all teachers in Venezuela received a 40 percent pay increase. All university employees received 28 percent to 34 percent pay raises in 2007. All thanks to Chavez. VIVA CHAVEZ!

  • meh it won't keep up with inflation. Where is all this new money coming from? the price of oil has dropped so we know chavez isn't getting the new cash from there... We know chavez hasn't cut services.

so my guess is he is debasing the currency to increase teachers wages on paper. This can never help the poor as they lack the saving capacity to cope with inflationary pressure on basic goods. inflation hurts the poor the most since they are already living at the edge.

  • csanchez, the increase was absolutely necessary, because of inflation.

Venezuela's inflation was at the highest rate in years.

So, how do you analyse president Chavez actions now? I bet you don't. You just wear the teeshirt.

Viva Chavez!!! ^_^/ /

  • stop hating. he's doing wat he can for his country.

  • VIVA CHAVEZ FOR EVER AND EVER!!!

  • As usual; this 30% increment on the minimum wage is just another misleading act of the government to gain popularity; nothing more.

In the end this will increse everything else in the economy, so the vicious circle of the inflation will speed up promptly to empty our pockets.

What a giant leap to improve the standard of living; very nice; fxxking Bolcheviks..

  • me vas a decir que por aumentar el salario es que esta comprando votos ¿entoces que es lo que hacen los gobernantes?

  • @Johnhighfive Dear am very happy after hearing the speech of honorable president Chavez about USA and specially about Bush.Bush policies put the world into war and the whole south Asia is disturb due to afghan war specially my country PAKISTAN.i pay salute to Venezuelan nation for the brave speech of Chaves,i like him very much personally.may God Pakistan also has such brave and patriotic president.love you so much for Venezuelan people from Pakistan.(waqas.real.love@gmail.com)

  • silly! they increased the salary but the prices for goods have increased too, so, the extra money u get now goe directly to the extra amount of money to buy food, cloths, bills, medicines. the gouverment has to do better than that, like keeping down the inflation.

  • how funny the guy said : private companies are closing what are we gonna do???!!! hahaah private companies dont give a shit about people so its better if they close. they make millions and onky pay couple thousand dollars to its workers.

  • Just to let you now the acumulated inflation between may 1st 2007 and may 1st 2008 was 38% so he didnt really recognized the impact on the venezuelans pockets. Then IT IS NOT AN INCREASE!!!!!, oh and by the way the minimun wage increse dont take in matter of the salary of the other workers!!! in a few words less than 20% of the workers receive the minimum wage...

  • Most intelligent comment ever posted.

  • But what was the rate of inflation? If inflation exceeds the minimum wage increase is it really an increase?

  • Same old populist solution, throw money at the problem. A better way would be to stabilize the monetary supply and ease up on the price controls, but Hugo would rather be Robin Hood than a rational leader. Were it not for oil Ven. would turn out just like Zim.

  • shut the fuck up, ignorant

  • Interesting situation. Nationalization of industries like oil can cause a down turn of the economy (like in Venezuela), but the profits from oil are going to social programs. In America, free(er) markets exist, but oil companies keep all their oil profits. Better conditions for a stable economy (not so much right now...), but no oil funded social programs to help the poor. Its a "which evil to choose" sort of situation.

  • venezuela's oil has been in the hands of the government since the 70's. The previous governments did not see helping the poor as a priority, that's why today you see such a large segment of society living in poverty.

  • Venezuela is not communist. They are socialist. We (USA) are facist.

  • communist / socialist / fascist/corporatist

--- They are all just different flavors of Collectivism. We must resist them all, because the forces behind collectivism have been actively waging against individualism for generations. Not many people realize that, so individualism has been losing, badly.

  • Good reply hehe

  • What is Facism? Hitler nationalized all the private industries and consolidated all control under the power of the state. Facisim Sounds like socialism. What was the name of Hitler's party that National Workers Party? As Hayek said loss of Private property is the Road to Serfdom. So get a clue what facisim is ..

  • @joedaddio39 we r not facists. we r a democracy.

  • @BeaOmega Democracy = Hypocrasy

  • @joedaddio39 we r not facists. we r a democracy.

  • @joedaddio39 Corporatism
