  • Can I read PDF documents or word documents not necesarily ebooks. I am thinking on my University stuff.

  • Thanks, helpful info!

  • I don't like trying to scroll up or down while in landscape or zoom mode. The PDF isn't locked in and the Reader thinks you are trying to move it. It is only for a second but it can be really annoying. Especially, when you need to do this on EVERY page. See :50 (But for $199 vs $499, it will have to do.)

  • Thanks for the review. It's awesome!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for this!

  • hi there,

does kindle fire has reflow zoom function, i find it best for pdf which contain lot of text.

  • Amazon should did the Kindle F screen 4:3 like the ipad, not 16:9 ....really a pain to read in that format

  • Does it feel the same as reading on a computer? I dont want that.

  • @meng0is0great It`s True. It seems a computer screen. It`s much better the normal kindles because their screens don`t shine

  • @PigeonTech Kindle Apps Store >> Adobe Reader --- Problem's solved!

  • can you upload music and movies to a dropbox account and then play them on the kindle fire? can i play music while i read?

  • @spikaia Idk about the dropbox account, but you can download music and play it while you read a book, play an application, or anything else. A good app for downloading free music is Freetime.

  • thanks for this review and for the one on the touch. I read lots of PDFs.

  • Thank you for this review. I'm thinking of getting the Kindle Fire and your review helps a lot as I have many pdf files.

  • I see you

  • You can't search a large PDF document for spicific words in the Kindle Fire as you can on a pc with Adobe reader.

  • With a 3rd party app you can do even better: codecorner.galanter.net/2011/12/19/how-to-comfortably-read-pdf-books-on-kindle-fire/

    P.S. Love my Kindle Fire!

  • The PDF support isn't that good. If it's something you scanned yourself, whether using searchable-image or clearscan as the OCR, the kindle hangs for about 3 seconds when you zoom in before getting sharp. If it's a PDF created straight from Word, where the text isn't an image or vector from scan, but just text, then it'll zoom better. Also, despite having OCR in the PDF, the Kindle Fire won't let you search, defeating the purpose for me (college text books).

  • does it support PDF natively

or do you have to convert the PDF to their format?

  • is reading in sunlight a problem with this kindle?

  • @vienne101 yes, I believe so. Unlike the other Kindle, the screen is not using the E-Ink.

  • Thank you for this!.. hard to find information on pdf support.

  • Yes! Thank you very much for this video. I read a lot of things in PDF format, and there are no real answers on Kindle PDF capability on forums. This helped me in my decision of Touch or Fire.

    Thanks!

  • @MrOveragedrinking so what did you decide to read pdfs with? I need a reader that can offer pdf capabilities, kindle 3 is just too tedious not good.

  • @nervouss I decided to go with the Fire. I think its worth the extra money to be able to read my PDFs better, as well as do things on it besides read,

  • @MrOveragedrinking Are you happy with the fire in terms of reading PDFs? I have 6 books of 1000 pages each with diagrams and lessons, I was hoping to eliminate the need for buying the actual books bough the kindle 3 but this won't work, thinking maybe the fire?

  • @nervouss i have not tried reading books with many pages and diagrams, but I think it should be fine. only that it is quite heavy to be handled for a long time of reading, but if you buy the cover stand, then you can avoid handling it.

  • @MrOveragedrinking

What did you end up getting, and are you happy with your choice? I'm trying to decide if I should spend the money. I want to read pfs on a tablet

  • I tried pretty much other 7" tablet on the pdf viewing. my conclusion is some can show but screen size still too small. Hard to read. ipad still is the best

  • Thank you for this post on reading PDF's with the Kindle Fire. I would like to request from you to re-post a follow-up on this topic to let the audience know the user functionality of reading PDF's on this device. I think we would like to know if you can highlight and annotate as well as search for specific words, phrases, table of contents etc.. Most of all, we want to know if the reader bookmarks the page last viewed when quitting the reader. Thanks.

  • Great! Thanks for this. I am buying a Kindle specifically for PDF's and this was what I wanted to know!

  • Can you search PDFs for specific words like you can in a regular kindle? Does it retain zoom level or do you have to zoom in on every page once you get a zoom level that works for the document?

  • @thomasbihn yes you can search, if you use Mantano reader application for reading. Zoom level is also retain-able in Mantano reader

  • @Amazopia What features does the Kindle fire have on PDFs, can it book mark pages, jump to specific page, highlight perhaps etc? Thanks for the video, very helpful

  • Thanks a lot for doing PDFs on Kindle Fire. It was pretty hard to find a similar review

  • THANK YOU FOR DOING REVIEW FOR PDF. THIS IS BIG FOR ME. THANK YOU.

  • @Amazopia finally someone who reviews the PDF support. 10x!!!

  • Great video! The only one in the entire youtube which can give us a good idea about the PDF capacities of this amazing gadget.

I was thinking about buying a Kindle Fire to use at the university has as reader of exercise sheets that professors usually upload to our website (and that we are obligated to solve during classes). Is the size of the screen (only 7"...) a bad deal to this kind of usage?

    Thanks!

  • does it have any features such as highlight, underline and etc?

  • @waeve22

Probably there are few Android apps out there that can do the job.

  • @waeve22 yes, you can install Mantano reader application for a better reading experience, such as highlighting and searching for term in dictionary. You might need to install this application by executing the .apk installation file through Dropbox, but first you need to create a free Dropbox account and then download the Dropbox Android application from its website before you can browse and then execute the .apk installation file... I just tried it on my kindle fire and works perfect!!!

  • Grea!
