Was it just me or did Miley give the worst advice. She told Paige to do false setto, and Crystal to "sing out more" even though she clearly couldnt hit all the notes that werent in her range.
Tbh, Miley wasn't the worst mentor by any stretch of the imagination. She also admitted that fact that she IS NOT pitch-perfect. And Crystal letting Miley sign her guitar? So.Freaking.Gracious. I love Crystal.

There is just no doubt who the best singer of the competition was-this girl. For sure. Consistent, and everything else said below. Everyone knows. Lee was good, but not anywhere near this superstar in the making.

She don't need this Karaoke show anyways - just pass GO, and collect the recording contract and get your own songs out there!
Crystal is a true musician - not only sings amazing, but plays the guitar, piano, AND writes her own song! - she doesn't even need to win American Idol. She just needed it for the exposure. The best thing is she doesn't let this stuff go to her head. :-D
I think when we all look back... 1 day after Idol...1 week...1 month...a year...We will realize Randy was absolutely prophetic...This was the performance where a star was born...Standing on her magic carpet...beautiful, talented Crystal enthralled us with such heartfelt soul it sent shivers up and down our spines. Appreciate what you are witnessing...A talent this tremendous...and a voice that is literally spell-binding...comes this way so very rarely. God bless you dear Crystal.

In my younger days I saw another great talent named Eva Cassidy rise but just didn't get quite the exposure and recognition she was due. I have a feeling that Crystal is well on her way, and like so many other people , I am happy for her.

Wow that was amazing! I thought only 3 people were able to sing that song, Melissa Etheridge, Janis Joplin and, my personal favorite, Pink. But this was great, loved it!
Stage presence. I dont want someone jumpin around the stage, I want the one who can sing.. Crystal has it. Hands Down !!!! When I listen to a CD, I dont see the visuals, I hear this incredible voice.. Im so over this package bullshit quite frankly. I just want an artist who can sing and when they do that and make the heckles stand up on my neck,,, then you got it !!!! Do you know if we had visuals in the 70s, you just think of all the great artist that never would of made it to the stage !!!!

Too bad I can't rate this with more than 5 stars. My wife and I predicted back in Hollywood week that she was going to be the one to beat. Mark my words....it's between her and big Mike. Two different styles, of course, but no one else in the competition even cones close to either of them.
Big Mike did a lounge version of When a Man Loves a woman this week, he may make it to the top 5 but he doesn't have a snowballs chance of winning this year. Bowersox sounds great, she has zero stage presence, and that's what will hurt her in this compeition. Magnus has the talent and presence, right now its a tough fight between Bowersox and Magnus, Big Mike's not even in the same league.
Did I just hear you say Crystal has zero stage presence? I beg to differ. Siobhan has got experience performing on stage infront of a big crowd (you can find clips of her doing musicals on YouTube), she knows how to work the crowd and stage to incite the audience. But Crystal, only has to stand still with a guitar and the crowd starts to clap along as she sings. Now THAT to me, is REAL stage presence.
if she doenst win the whole show they will hear me scream all the way to the Kodak Theatre....she is the ONLY one with true original, unique talent this year

What's wrong with Ellen and Kara. They've been given bad advice not just to Cyrstal, the other girls too, and screwing them out. They should sometimes just shut up. I agree with Randy and Simon, Crystal should not change. We know who she is, and she know her fans love her and we feel her love too. What's this with Ellen about not connecting. The two way connection is there. Bad advice again. Remember too, Simon has always been a good predictor of who will win.

I agree with you 100% oldmaryjane. Ellen is a terrible judge. She has praised some terrible performances and found a way to be critical about some amazing ones. Why would she tell Crystal to connect with the audience?! I'm sure she would also tell Bob Dylan to smile or Johnny Cash to wear more colorful clothes.

I hope she completely ignores Ellen. Her voice is her personality. I love that she is stoic, and calm. She is in control, and last night when asked who she was going to listen to, without hesitation she says "Me". By my count that is 5 great performances in a row. I love them all.
I agree with Simon. I wouldn't change a thing. Keep the guitar. Are the female judges jealous or did they see something that the male judges were unable to detect? I thought the performance was outstanding.
Simon makes an excellent point. Do you want someone who connects to the audience through gimmicks and acting like a lunatic on stage or someone who connects by delivering an incredible vocal performance on a highly difficult song? I've seen Pink do this song too and she sits on a stool and just belts it out. It's obvious that Ellen and Kara want her acting a fool like the others on the show, but that would ruin her. She's perfect the way she is and she deserves the props Simon gave her.
1. Ellen is completely mentally deranged and should be institutionalized immediately. WTF?? "If it ain't broke..."
2. I agree 100% with Simon.
3. Miley commenting on a vocalist - now that right there is funny. Crystal should be giving Miley tips, like: "Don't sing...don't ever sing again."
4. And speakin' of Joplin - Crystal should do the soul-searing tune "Maybe" by Joplin. That would be the ultimate pinnacle of pinnacality. The place would be awash in tears.
They didn't technically bring in Miley to give advice you guys, seriously. It's all in marketing. Miley has a new CD and movie coming out, it was just the Fox producers promoting an artist. But in the end, Miley just ends up looking too young and cheesy here. She's obviously outmatched by talent, it's like a student trumping a professor really. BUT, Miley is the one with the bank account at the moment.
It is a little strange to see someone so good on AI on this season. David Cook was this good in season 7, but there hasn't been anyone even close to him since then until Crystal. Like David Cook, she is head and shoulders above everyone else she's competing with. Siobhan has a lovely voice, but that's really all she's got. Crystal, by the end of this season, will be the whole package just like Cook is. She's very close now.
It is impossible to stop listening. I click and click again and again and never get tired of listening that end. I close my eyes and feel she is a dedicated artist singing on the radio. And she really is. You have sung a really wonderful version Crystal. Congratz

OMG I think when Joplin did this the artists of the time were trying to change the world with their music. Kind of like a version of we are the world... where the moment catches up and gives us goose bumps. This was one of those moments where you see somebody so good that all you can do is say, Damn!! I love that girl. ... ps... I think I broke my DVR watching her over and over again.
This was BEAUTIFUL! I honestly was not expecting that. Probably the best I've seen on Idol...ever. No other contestant has actually made me want to watch them sing again and again and again!! This was gorgeous.
Her closest competition is probably Siobhan. But there's really no competition there. Siobhan has to scream and be gimmicky in order to get noticed. I LOL'd when Simon suggested that maybe she should scream in the beginning of the song instead - he was totally calling her out on the gimmick. What was even more funny is when Siobhan replied that she wished she could do a "whole song of screaming." Gawd, wouldn't THAT be fun to listen too? lol
Crystal is sooo ready to be a recording artist. It really doesn't matter if she wins this thing or not, she's going to have an incredible career. The rest of the kids looked like they were in a high school talent competition next to her. Simon was spot on when he said that, "Crystal is in a different league". It's so obvious. She's the only one there with the chops to do a song by Janis Joplin. That's what sets her apart - the ability to sing the big songs and come out on top.
I love this girl! wile I was watching this live last night i knew she was going to do great but i did not know that she was going to have me dancing around like a dummy all by myself! lol it was great! by the time she really kicked it up (you know what im talking about) i felt like i was at her concert! but to here simon out of all people say that he would not change a thing was the cherry to top it all off! we love you Crystle... dont change a thing!

@oldmaryjane The Dawg went first, he can talk as long as he wants. Waiting an extra 10 seconds to soak in the atmosphere was needed. He actually took away form the performance. The show isn't about the dawg at all. The two girls actually spoke too much. (ellen is great anyway), but they both missed the mark with their comments. Simon was spot on. The dawg needs to realise the show is not about the judges.
How about allowing playback on iPad/iPhone? It's not like YOU are the actual author....

Too bad I can't rate this with more than 5 stars. My wife and I predicted back in Hollywood week that she was going to be the one to beat. Mark my words....it's between her and big Mike. Two different styles, of course, but no one else in the competition even cones close to either of them.

Big Mike did a lounge version of When a Man Loves a woman this week, he may make it to the top 5 but he doesn't have a snowballs chance of winning this year. Bowersox sounds great, she has zero stage presence, and that's what will hurt her in this compeition. Magnus has the talent and presence, right now its a tough fight between Bowersox and Magnus, Big Mike's not even in the same league.

Did I just hear you say Crystal has zero stage presence? I beg to differ. Siobhan has got experience performing on stage infront of a big crowd (you can find clips of her doing musicals on YouTube), she knows how to work the crowd and stage to incite the audience. But Crystal, only has to stand still with a guitar and the crowd starts to clap along as she sings. Now THAT to me, is REAL stage presence.

mark, and gave Crystal some very good advice, that I think she took, and let it all out-especially those high notes. I'm a huge Crystal fan, and not a very big Miley fan, but Miley did impress me with some of her suggestions...who knew? ;)

What's wrong with Ellen and Kara. They've been given bad advice not just to Cyrstal, the other girls too, and screwing them out. They should sometimes just shut up. I agree with Randy and Simon, Crystal should not change. We know who she is, and she know her fans love her and we feel her love too. What's this with Ellen about not connecting. The two way connection is there. Bad advice again. Remember too, Simon has always been a good predictor of who will win.

Totally agree with you; WTF Ellen; can't say anything bad about Crystal's singing so she talks about connecting with the audience??? Ellen and Kara should shut up. And then, Ellen tells "pretty boy" that his was the "best performance of the night" . . . are you kidding me?? He didn't change a single thing, including tone, from Huey Lewis. She should stick to her talk show and leave judging to someone in the know; Kara should just write songs and shut up already! Sorry . . . I had to vent.

I agree with you 100% oldmaryjane. Ellen is a terrible judge. She has praised some terrible performances and found a way to be critical about some amazing ones. Why would she tell Crystal to connect with the audience?! I'm sure she would also tell Bob Dylan to smile or Johnny Cash to wear more colorful clothes.

When you think about it, Me and Bobby McGee isn't really a "connect with the audience" kind of song, and when Pink sang it, she was just sitting on a stool with her eyes closed a lot (it was very well done). linkcubuspark: I've seen Pink live and I would be hard press to pick the better, I can't do it. I agree with Simon. Also, Pink did the full song while Crystal was limited to a cut-short version and she still hit.

Absolutly! doing what she knows she can sing...she has undeniably so far been the most consistent performer in the competition,maybe not the strongest vocally?? but definatly been the most consistent.
As a little added note.I thought miley gave a faboulous performance on her own! very impressive!! I have a now,complete respect for her as an artist/singer/professional.

I hope she completely ignores Ellen. Her voice is her personality. I love that she is stoic, and calm. She is in control, and last night when asked who she was going to listen to, without hesitation she says "Me". By my count that is 5 great performances in a row. I love them all.

Simon makes an excellent point. Do you want someone who connects to the audience through gimmicks and acting like a lunatic on stage or someone who connects by delivering an incredible vocal performance on a highly difficult song? I've seen Pink do this song too and she sits on a stool and just belts it out. It's obvious that Ellen and Kara want her acting a fool like the others on the show, but that would ruin her. She's perfect the way she is and she deserves the props Simon gave her.

3. Miley commenting on a vocalist - now that right there is funny. Crystal should be giving Miley tips, like: "Don't sing...don't ever sing again."
4. And speakin' of Joplin - Crystal should do the soul-searing tune "Maybe" by Joplin. That would be the ultimate pinnacle of pinnacality. The place would be awash in tears.

They didn't technically bring in Miley to give advice you guys, seriously. It's all in marketing. Miley has a new CD and movie coming out, it was just the Fox producers promoting an artist. But in the end, Miley just ends up looking too young and cheesy here. She's obviously outmatched by talent, it's like a student trumping a professor really. BUT, Miley is the one with the bank account at the moment.

It is a little strange to see someone so good on AI on this season. David Cook was this good in season 7, but there hasn't been anyone even close to him since then until Crystal. Like David Cook, she is head and shoulders above everyone else she's competing with. Siobhan has a lovely voice, but that's really all she's got. Crystal, by the end of this season, will be the whole package just like Cook is. She's very close now.

OK her performence made me cry it was that good, she will be star, and I will be in line to buy her first cd. Kara is an idiot, saying you need to let it go more. Come that song was the best ever, way better than Miley, Crystal should be signing her guitar, Simon is correct and Randy, Kara shut up. This was the best ever song on Idol, and I just listened to PINK and it was not better.

OMG I think when Joplin did this the artists of the time were trying to change the world with their music. Kind of like a version of we are the world... where the moment catches up and gives us goose bumps. This was one of those moments where you see somebody so good that all you can do is say, Damn!! I love that girl. ... ps... I think I broke my DVR watching her over and over again.

Her closest competition is probably Siobhan. But there's really no competition there. Siobhan has to scream and be gimmicky in order to get noticed. I LOL'd when Simon suggested that maybe she should scream in the beginning of the song instead - he was totally calling her out on the gimmick. What was even more funny is when Siobhan replied that she wished she could do a "whole song of screaming." Gawd, wouldn't THAT be fun to listen too? lol

Crystal is sooo ready to be a recording artist. It really doesn't matter if she wins this thing or not, she's going to have an incredible career. The rest of the kids looked like they were in a high school talent competition next to her. Simon was spot on when he said that, "Crystal is in a different league". It's so obvious. She's the only one there with the chops to do a song by Janis Joplin. That's what sets her apart - the ability to sing the big songs and come out on top.

I love this girl! wile I was watching this live last night i knew she was going to do great but i did not know that she was going to have me dancing around like a dummy all by myself! lol it was great! by the time she really kicked it up (you know what im talking about) i felt like i was at her concert! but to here simon out of all people say that he would not change a thing was the cherry to top it all off! we love you Crystle... dont change a thing!

@oldmaryjane The Dawg went first, he can talk as long as he wants. Waiting an extra 10 seconds to soak in the atmosphere was needed. He actually took away form the performance. The show isn't about the dawg at all. The two girls actually spoke too much. (ellen is great anyway), but they both missed the mark with their comments. Simon was spot on. The dawg needs to realise the show is not about the judges.
