Lane was very underrated in terms of his impact on the team. People have always said that Butch Goring was "the final piece," but Lane gave them that last bit of toughness to supplement Gillies, Nystrom, Howatt -- on top of average to above average playing ability. (No disrespect to Butch -- his impact was enormous.)
