Little Albert is Douglas Merritte (1919-1925), the son of a Johns Hopkins wet nurse, whose Maryland death certificate says he died of hydrocephalus (“water on the brain”), after acquiring meningitis three years earlier.
Actually, it was recently discovered that little Albert was developmentally disabled from birth, and Watson most likely knew this. Watson's "findings" are therefore null and void...and represent an even more shameful form of child abuse. See Maclean's Magazine article from February 27, 2012 titled, "Bad Behaviour". "Like" this comment to help spread the TRUTH about this study!!!! :)
The sad thing is little Albert died when he was 6...he was never 'unconditioned' from this experiment and it left him scared of anything that was white, small or fluffy. pure cruelty :-(
too much music !! Anyone who says this is a child abuse i dont disagree with them but they have to understand that this was dont during that time when child was seen as a property more than a human being !!
There are many flaws with this experiment, and psychologists don't really rely on it much.
The kid died at the age of six, so no compelling studies were able to be conducted in the years following the experiment to see if it had really impacted his life. He could have gotten over the fear within months after discontinuing the experiment.
@MAXIESONIC It was, cause the experiment became so big, and was the foundation for Watsons theory that "every child can be raised to be any man he want". It was the foundation of a great theory that has change the history of psychology - this experiment were necessary back then. It was also with this experiment they figure out how some phobia could be made - and cured as well.
Back then they did not have the same laws on experimentation of people, plus the parents agreed to it. It was diffrent times back then, just like when our parents were children they had to go cut a switch off a tree for their own spanking now days that is child abise to spank your child. Without these experiments we would now know what we do about psychology and about the developmental growth of children.
Isn't it interesting that we all watch these clips with equal fascination and for many
total rejection. You don't know what stimuli you are responding to in your everyday life unless you get away from all stimuli and then reintroduce one element at a time.. which is basically impossible..
Fear of Terrorism, Fear of "Liberalism' fear of foreigners, fear of men, fear of blacks, fear fear fear... does anyone on here not recognize the connection?
Psychologists today are respected as professionals of a scientific discipline with a coherent code of ethics, this however should not be the case, there are thousnds of people suffering client abuse which is very very common that accounts for a high percentage of all suicides, therapists also rubbish the credibility of clients who make complaints to authorities.
I would love to find that person and kidnap him and give him some tests of my own like anal breaching and how a potato pealer pealing a mans skin would cause the man to react and continue that process for 2 months to see if Alpha Generalization can occur with such a person
Isn't it great how they not only abuse the child but the dog too? Wonderful people. Apparently the difference between a criminal and a psychologist is the psychologist gets paid.
@malawianbabe1 Yes it was. It helped base the foundation of classical conditioning, not to mention it helped people with irrational fears have a theory as to why they had such unusual fears. It has become one of the most famous experiments by inspiring other people to go into psychology and find out more things about how the human mind works.

Child abuse AND animal cruelty, look how they're choking that poor dog in the second section of the clips after the conditioning.

Just a suggestion..
DON'T PUT AVATAR MUSIC IN THE BACK.
OR AT LEAST TONE IT DOWN.
I immediately stopped listening to the words 30 seconds in.

It's not child abuse,it's SCIENCE.

This experiment wasn't really necessary. Pour kid, he probably suffered all his life with fear of furry animals.
Not only a child abuse, but also animals abuse. As i saw how a dog was dragged.. by it's collar.
MAXIESONIC 2 months ago
@MAXIESONIC
That isn't abusive. It doesn't cause any harm to the dog. What I find more abusive is having a tied up monkey.
007rosin 2 months ago
@007rosin Yeah not abuse to the animals but abuse to the poor child.

@Shayla2007 but he was not a healthy baby. Under that light, the experiment was abusive and unethical.
