  • the legends of the NYMR, these loco's were the work force of the line when i first started going there. i remember back in those days, they used to have an engine waiting at grosmont for the inbound train to relieve the one just been working as well as the engines having to leave the coaches at pickering at the end of the day to only come back the next morning 'light engine' to start the next days timetable.

  • It's nice to see video's of 901, 2253, 80135 and DVL in steam; these were the locos on the NYMR when I was a youngster, they were the locos that drew me in!

However, if I recall, Dame Vera Lynn is privately owned, and the NYMR is trying to get it's own locos in working order first.

    I can't believe I haven't watched this sooner!

  • Dame Vera Lynn was pretty much the railways work horse all through the 90s. She is now stored in Grosmont yard awaiting heavy overhaul.

  • By this brought back some memories. I used to volunteer there back when DVL was in steam, back when I had a proper job with weekends off. Agh Well!

  • I know, such a shame, although I do not think the NYMR will part with her, and as far as i know she is on the cards for overhaul. Thanks for all the comments!

  • well done your grandad - he did a great job!

  • i miss dame vera lynn :(

  • She had a tree growing in her tender when i went to see her a few weeks ago
