You should make a film around Halbe, and the 'withdraw' paths used by the 9th Army etc... well, at least i plan on doing that in a year and a half or so..... Great job!
To think, that this beautiful forest that grows today healthy & strong grew from the ashes of thousands of courageous young men of both sides who flew to Eternity from here...
This the highest point of the heights and it was captured in February 1945. The heights curve round dipping from here then rising again in a northerly direction. From here Zhukov had a good view of the battlefield. A better one than we had as there was much less foliage in April 1945 than here in June 2008.
@GKLCVP The soviets had crossed the frozen Oder River by end of January 1945 and captured some high ground in Seelow area. Zhukov set up a command point on the The Reitwein Spur

I intend to do this and have a lot of notes on the subject with maps - the first time I have prepared something!
I do not know when I will be able to do it though - that is the problem.
I will soon publish what I intend to do this year - unfortunately this is not on the plan any longer!

If the landowner agrees I don't see why not.. See the other comments on Seelow as there are people who do.

Was this filmed at the Heights with the German Forces dislodged or is this the position used by Zhukov to take the Heights???Thanks...Gerald

12 years ago, found a Soviet military monument by an offramp of an old autobahn directly east* of Berlin.
I wish I knew a little Russian, there was a lot to read.
Btw, at the time, this autobahn looked exactly as the old news films of the 1930's-40's. The bridges, the offramps..everything the same.
So much history, amazing.

Until the mid 1990's there were a lot of autobahn's looking like the Nazis left them, until ten years later in Poland.
There is one motoroway which was opened about six years ago. I have a couple of brief shots of it in my film Along the Polish - Russian border.

It is not too difficult to get to. Only an hour or so out of Berlin by car!
