Personally I have no problem with the idea of a personality, why do you? We are beings with personalities, what is wrong with another being with the same features?
As for gender, God doesn't have a gender, it's just language used to help us relate/understand.
As for a Son, you should look into the Trinity to understand the necessity of that.

It was not that direct. The "event" did only one thing, prove remove doubt that there is "more than nothing." I didn't even know how to process it, but it gave me enough to finish the journey as best as I could for decades that followed.
