Just got an American Express gift card ($50) and checked the balance on it and it only had $43 on it... What the fuck...

I tried to register the card with PayPal and it didn't work but all my transactions were from PayPal for $1 and it said it charged me for the same thing 7 times!!! All I tried to do was use it with PayPal I didn't even get a warning it was going to charge me! It didn't even accept the card! WHAT THE FUCK!!!!

If you want to make enemies, give people around you these frustrating cards. They don't work, not activated, they charge you fees left and right, and you have to spend a lot of time on the phone talking to people from India who have no clue what they are doing ... until you give up and throw the card away. I just called and registered my card and was able to make my paypal purchase. The number I called was 877-297-4438. After I entered my card number I kept pressing 0 until I got a person. GL!

Your best bet is start using VISA giftcards online. it's easy fast no need to use brain cells and best of all theres no fcking problems. American Express SUCKS!!! and it can really make you wanna just trash the Bitch!!!

I prefer Visa, but I opted for the AMEX because it had a larger balance amount. AMEX is okay, but not all vendors (online or otherwise) take it, and that has caused me a problem in the past. They are also unclear about ordering online; the card appears to be registered and ready after purchase, but initially doesn't work to order online. There are no instructions for online ordering registry, however, with Visa gift, the instructions are right there on the card. It's just a bigger hassle.

@october2495 You cannot use American Express gift cards to shop on Ebay. If you're looking to shop on eBay without a credit card, then you need to get a Greendot Moneypak. You can link that to your paypal account.

@october2495 @GiftCardRescue While what you are both saying probably was true when you posted it a year ago. American Express gift cards can now be used for ALL online shopping.

Once you get the registration part out of the way, ALL you have to do is link it to your Paypal account and ensure that it's the payment method Paypal will use first (if you have your checking accnt hooked in, Paypal tends to always go to that first).

Just make sure you "remember" teh name, address and phone number you told them? It could be Howard Stern, 30 Rockefeller Center, 10001,...etc. Make sure you use a real address, zipcode and area code...at least. Just take a local starbucks address or something. Point is what you tell is what they check later.
