Agreed, best jingle EVER! Would someone find Pepsi Small Town USA (I believe in J. Walter Thompson Agency demo reel).
It has the best film cutting to the beat and one of the first noticebly black voiceover artists. I had it on my home page as shortcut and never got tired of that commercial...lost it in a fire
Written by Joseph Brooks (accused rapist, and writer of "You Light Up My Life"). Amazing what darkness can live in someone that wrote such upbeat tunes.
Oh, sweet! I remember this one too! Definitely inspired by Dr. King and the Peace and Love Generation's utopian vision of racial harmony. It's both sad and fun to watch this one. Kinda feel that we lost something somewhere on the way to here...
I miss America looking and acting like that. I know it wasn't all apple pie and Mayberry RFD in the early 70's but it might as well be compared to today.
People talk about Joan Crawford being such a bad person. If it hadn't been for Joan Crawford Pepsi wouldn't be such a popular soda. She, along with Al Steele her last husband, made Pepsi the #1 soft drink in the world.
These were my favorite commercials back in the day. I guesswe were more innocent in those times but these scenes and upbeat music represent an idealized image of the time. But, that's okay
Thanks...very catchy jingle! It's funny, i like Coke better then Pepsi but I do like the Pepsi commercials very, very much! Maybe its because Pepsi is always the "number two" softdrink and that they are trying so hard...I don't know. My first impression of the blue collar guys is that they are gay also :-) If you have more jingles like this i would welcome them very much...
Maybe this America only existed in my mind, but as a boy growing up in the 1940s this is what it was like for me. Happy times! The America of today seems to have lost it's way.Our leaders of today have sold their souls. their moral compass is broken. We all sufer because these are the people we have chosen to lead us. If we continue with them they will lead us straight over the cliff.

I think the significance Pepsi intended for the two male-hetero-buddy guys is that one is white, and the other black?

There is a companion ad called Small Town USA which I like even better but no one has uploaded to youtube as of yet.
Same music but with small town scenes.

I don't think the two blue collar fellows are anything but just a couple hard working chaps having a friendly lunch time together.

I love the Beatles-circa-1967 brass section on this...

This does have a Penny Lane sound to it, don't you agree?

Exactly!!!
Good call on the brass section and also TServo2049's observation a la Penny Lane. Good job, lads!
