@johncajunmanbrown You were saying it's stainless steel? Probably weighs as much as the original lid eh :o) My intention for this one in particular was to lose weight :o) Still a really great find though. I'm trying to convince someone right now to make the aluminum lids for the Minimalist :o) See how that goes. I'm sure they'd sell good.
@Ggreenvideos Yeah, mine is HEAVY but very sturdy and fireproof. Different aim from your Ziploc lid. I bet an aluminum lid would sell great, especially if you can keep it low profile enough to lay flat under the cup, so nesting could still work well (bottle in a cup, cup on top of a lid, in a sleeve pouch like...)
@johncajunmanbrown Well they'd most likely look like what you see for the beer can pots, Imusa pots, and the SnowPeak pots with some kind of small wooden knob, so it may not work ideally for your set up. Your lid is probably best for that :o)
I've used an aluminum-foil lid for over 30 water-heating tasks. Usually for tea and reconstituting Mountain House meals. I folded regular heavy-duty foil to be four-layers thick, then fold THAT into quarters, and stash on bottom of cup which is placed on the bottom of the Nalgene 1L bottle.
I couldn't find the swivel hanger you used on this lid. I found something very similar at Home Depot though. It is a Ringer Hanger made by a company called OOK. Since I haven't received my Bunn lid yet, I decided to replace the maple knob that came on my Snow Peak 600 lid I bought from Tinny @ minibulldesign. It works great! I also think it is a better design. Thanks for the idea!
@1jump2many Just looked up the Ringer Hanger and that looks like the same concept. I looked into the Snow Peak 700 and, if I remember correctly, it was expensive and didn't quite fit in my Maxped Jumbo bottle pocket. But it did come with a good lid that could hang off the side of the pot. Make a video showing off your 600 and I'll show off my GSI Minimalist when it comes in the mail!
@johncajunmanbrown: Yeah, I've got to do some videos, it's been awhile since I've done any. I like the small diameter pots, 4" diameter. I have the Snow Peak Trek 700 and just he pot of the Snow Peak Mini Solo. As well as the Snow Peak 600 and the two GSI pots. They are all great pots and work well for what I use them for. Which is just boiling a couple cups of water. I would recommend any of them.
I like your idea for the lid, great ingenuity. I also like the idea for the lid handle, what you referred to as a "swivel hanger". Is that the actual name or your description of it? I can't seem to find any. If you have a GSI Minimalist Cookset, the lid for the Hallulite pot fits the GSI Cup perfectly. So if you own both they are interchangeable. Great video, thanks for the pointers.
@1jump2many Swivel Hanger was written on the packaging at the hardware store where I bought it - Tagz I think. I did a quick google image search and no images of what I was looking for showed up until page six! That GSI Minimlist looks pretty cool. Do you know if the pot fits over the bottom of the Klean Kanteen and all in a Maxped Jumbo bottle pocket?
@johncajunmanbrown: Thanks I will have to look around my local hardware stores for the swivel hanger. Both the GSI Glacier Cup and GSI Minimalist Cookset is 4.2" in diameter so it should fit your 40oz Klean Kanteen. I don't have a Maxpedition Jumbo but would think it should also fit in the bottle pocket in the same configuration you have it in this video. The Glacier Cup is 3.5" tall and the Minimalist Cookset pot is 4.6" tall.
Thanks for sharing I have a sitka and the same 40oz KleenKenteen that you do. I was wondering it the 40oz bottle would fit in the gsi cup and still fit in the Maxpedition side pouch. found the lid on ebay going to order two.
@jt838 I do not know about the SITKA... It all fits in my JUMBO side pouch without problems. But I should warn you, I got a Mini - ROLLYPOLY dump pouch from Maxpedition and CANNOT fit my cup in there. The 40oz KK fits snug. Good luck and let me know how it all turns out!
I like this cup. The lid issue is one that I've had also. One reason I like the cup is that one of the newer narrower fuel canisters slides in like a glove. Add a tine stove such as the pocket rocket etc and you have a very compact cook setup. It's big enough for single servings.
Thanks 4 the quick response. Once I get them set up I'll c if can shoot response. My equipment is older and my tecno savy is weak. But I know someone who can help.
This lid idea is great and will be a big help. Thanks again.
By the way, just out if curiousity, how do the rings attach to the metal lid?
Well, I've tried other things that haven't worked, so I'll try this. I just ordered one. If it works a hoped, I'll oreder a couple of more for my other cups. Thanks for the idea.
The lid from a tin of Peppridge Farm Pirouette wafers straws works nicely for me. Snaps on tight and boils water in half the time. Fits so snug that you need to remove it with some gloves or a cloth though.
I love, love, love the gsi cup and carry one in my kit on my nalgene bottle. I'm thrilled that the Klean kanteen fits in it as well. That is such a great tip on the cover and really helps make the cup more functional! Thanks for sharing your creativity, I appreciate it!!
Is that why you warned everyone that the KK bottle cap will melt? Hahhaha really, Maybe the bottle you use might have a cheaper plastic top... But about 2 dozen boils on everything from a stove indoors to an open campfire and my KK Sport Cap shows no bad signs (with no rubber gasket of course)
Love your vids. I think the best way to start is super cheap, then slowly replace with upgrades once you find a system you like for what you do most.
@johncajunmanbrown Those are my thoughts exactly! This is how I started out, it took me years to get to the kit I have now. At this point I am trying to hone my skills to where I can go out with less and less each time. I hate the fact that there are people on here that try to put the fear into someone to buy a product, you can basicaly make yourself or find for cheaper else where. Keep up the good work bro, yur vids are awesome!!
That sounds great! For the longest time, I used a coffee can that fit exactly over my Klean Kanteen bottle. It didn't bother me too much that the can was a little flimsy because I could just replace it if I needed to. But, I do like the thicker stainless steel now that I have it.
That's a great find for that cup. Awesome!

It worked! Ordered 2 more. I removed the black handle. Now I need to find a swivel loop like you have to use as a handle. Would
you tell me where you got yours?
Thanks for the great idea.

SafariOutfitter,
Thanks! I found your video only after I had made the final lid you see in my video. Your can lid looks like a perfect fit!
Now I will keep my eye out for a plastic sippy-cup or travel-mug style lid that fits. That should make drinking coffee from my cup easier.
johncajunmanbrown 1 year ago
Quarterman1973 on Youtube has a video with a plastic lid he found that fits perfectly. I think he bought it at Walmart.

Nice job
I picked up an aluminum coffee pot (less the guts, and top).
Got it home and found an old cookie tin laying about, that lid fits on it perfectly, I now have a great camp h2o boiler for a dime.
