I have written this message in hope that my dear friend Milly may read it. I have been trying to locate her, but sadly I’ve had no joy. I know she is a fan of Chris de Burgh so I live in hope that she reads this message and contacts me. Milly previously lived in Folkestone and worked for my mother. I let the best thing that ever happened to me slip through my fingers, even if too much has happened for a relationship to develop, I would also be happy to have her as a friend.
his words are second to none, his music stirs up so many emotions inside me that i cant describe them all .. my favorot right now is" the traveller", try it
jewboy07 - you can't call chris de burgh a one hit wonder, he's been around for 35 years and still selling out concerts around the world!! this is a great song from a great album (forget Lady in Red) Into the Light.
best song ever recorded from the one hit wonder. chris de burgh. anyone who has ever owned the BMW635 will know wht am talking about. for me a child hood classic. as for the BMW that belonged to my dad. but i will never forget this song
He only had 2 UK top 20 singles, but there is more to him than hits. His early work, unknown to most, is regarded as his peak. Into the light was seen by many as the beginning of the end, even though it contained his 'hit'.
I'm not only talking about singles but also about album charts. Seven of his albums were in the top 10 album charts in the UK, 10 in the top 20. And I'm not only talking about the UK but also about Germany, USA, France etc. Ship To Shore, for example, was No. 1 in France. And he has always been very successful in Germany. Several of his albums were No. 1 in Germany. And no, the fans definitely don't see Into The Light as the beginning of the end! All of his concerts are still outsold.
I note your point about the albums (he has always been an albums artist), however the phrase 'one hit wonder' relates to singles not albums. A significant number of fans feel from Into The Light, he sold out and went MOR and it was a turning point, in a negative way, in his career. I realise his concerts sell out, but to many, his creative peak was pre 86.
"the phrase 'one hit wonder' relates to singles not albums."
No, the definition is slightly different. It doesn't mean that only hit singles are taken into account, but that the artist has just one hit single and is COMPLETELY unsuccessfull afterwards. Chris wasn't unsuccessful after LIR, he had several more hits, that's why he isn't a one hit wonder.
"but to many, his creative peak was pre 86."
I - and every hardcore fan I know, and I know many all over the world - disagree.
As far as the definition of 'one hit wonder' we'll have to agree to disagree but I would suggest the answer is in the question ! He only had one UK top 20 after LIR by the way.
As regard when his creative was, many reviewers/ fans feel it to be pre 86 but obviously others will feel different. It is subjective, there is no right or wrong answer.
going 90 sounds excitine no matter how u sing or define it long as theres no pd to give u a ticket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One hit wonder? LOL! Just because you only know Lady In Red, that doesn't mean he didn't have more hits. Several albums were in the top 10.

Hell fuck yeah! And I have all of them to prove it!

With his albums Road To Freedom and Storyman, he went somehow "back to the roots". They are less mass compatible than his 90s albums.
