Done this and after 20 mins i still had 3 red lights, so thinking crap. But left it cool down for 10 mins like the video says just to follow it all through, so turned it back on and my xbox came back to life with those lovely green everything is okay lights. So plugged it back in and everything was good ready to play some gears tomorrow.

Towel trick deff works, but still brought myself an elite thats on its way as think this is just a short term fix, esp now living in the heat of thailand.

all the towel trick does is melts the solder from the cpu back together with no cracks etc, its the cracks and the joint not connectiong that gives you rrod, so if you melt the solder back to a good connection you will indeed have no problems until it melts again.

you don't get 3 rings from disconnected AV cable, so zico, you're just 100% wrong.

liloboiblublu and thumbboy, you can get 3 red rings from a loose power cord. not enough power being put through technically would be a hardware failure. before you send that shit in, you SHOULD leave it unplugged for a while and re-test it before sending it in.

The first time i did this it lasted 3 days then broke again. This trick may work in the short term...but this is how i do it, and i turn around maybe 6 xbox's every week.... strip down the console completely down to the bare board. including removing the heat sinks.. clean off the existing paste on top of the CPu and GPU this is probably by now hard and ineffective... polish the GPU and CPU then using a hair dryer hover about 2 inches over the boarding concentrating on these areas for abt 4 mins each side. this resets the solder where the board moved.
