  • Estoy orgulloso de ser sefardí. Mi familia habla ladino. Es muy fácil a entender sí hablas español. Es más cómo español qué hebreo.

la palabra por españoles en hebreo es «sefardí». Interesante, ¿no?

  • You might miss a word or two but again, if you speak or understand Spanish, Ladino comes very easily. It is considered a Judeo-Spanish language.

  • Anyone who understands Spanish can understand Ladino. It is much more influenced by Spanish than Hebrew.

  • Ocho kandelikas lista en mi casa....

  • i got my Kandelikas lista !!!!!

  • I believe that the Queen of England has patriotic red white and blue kandelikas for her Hannukah guests

  • At first I thought it was a mixture of portugese and spanish. But now I know that its Ladino. Very nice!

  • 3 people don't have Ocho Kandelikas. Tienen kandelikas ustedes?

  • Qué bueno! Me encanta la canción, ese idioma es muy interesante

  • OCHO KANDELIKAS ! Today OCHO !!!

  • No, it is Ladino with a strong english accent.

Ladino is spanish of XV century with influence of hebrew, arab, turkish, and other languages spoken in Spain

  • @Zsazsa96 No, he said "Fiestas" i forgot that word

  • woooo!!!! i loved this song since i first heard it!!!!

  • It is not Spanish. It is Ladino. It was derived from old Spanish but influenced strongly by Hebrew Aramaic, but also Arabic, Turkish. It is sort of like a Spanish version of Yiddish. Yiddish was formed when Ashkenazi Jews were expelled from their German speaking lands and could speak this common language in their newly adopted countries. Ladino was formed like Yiddish was - when years ago, Sephardic Jews were expelled from Spain and settled around the world.

  • you´re kinda right about ladino origins, although not the same thing happens with explanation about yiddish language

  • @nrjohns50 It also has influences of Basque, Castillan (basically old 'High' Spanish) and Portuguese.

  • ck out shankbone mystic / de leon doing same tune! they really rock

  • Las candelitas Jejejje

  • @youarpa Kandelikas

  • Heard this song on NPR BIG SMILES for me the the light shine tovah

  • This is not in fact an "ancient" song... it was written by Flory Jagoda, a National Heritage Fellow, and a national treasure. At 84 she lives in Virginia and is still performing.

  • What a nice version of this ancient song they really swing!! - Que bonita version, suena bastante bien, sobre todo que no se sale de la forma y la adaptan bien.

  • lol, i didn't realise one could have a "gringo" accent in espanyol. (although i really shouldn't be talking as i bring the cuban accent into it) sigh, i <3 kenny ellis cd. best holiday cd ever.

  • there is not much Hebrew in it, is it?it was clear to me that this is Spanish or kind-of Spanish.lol.however thank you for all.

  • it sounds really Spanish

  • it is really spanish!

  • It is ladino, sounds like ancient spanish, ands its a kind of spanish

  • This guy totally swings. I loved it!

  • Ladino sounds a lot like Spanish. It is the closest language in the world that resembles spanish or castillian. Ladino is actually closer to the original 15th and 16th century spanish than the one spoken by modern spanish speakers. I am latino, from el salvador. I am not biased. GREAT SONG! And Sephardi Jew is not necessarily from Spain, but a descendant of a jew from the Iberian Peninsula.

  • U R very correct. I am latina Sefardita of Guatemalan parents but Sefardi from my mother's Portuguese Jewish side. :)

  • You're attitude explains why people like my mother were forced to go to school to learn "proper" spanish when they already spoke properly to begin with! You claim every word spoken as your own and nothing for anyone else. I recognize the ladino influence in there, delightful tune, thank you :)

  • im latina and im jewish, my ansesters were born in castile so im castilian

  • COME BACK TO ANDALUCIA.

  • bellisima cover!!!

  • vo fazer -- suena más a Portugués "vou fazer", saludos desde Nuevo Sefarad!

  • Not only do I realize it, I conduct the Kol Sephardic Choir - and I studied with many Latino Jews in Jerusalem. I loved their davening best!

  • Muy bueno... gracias! There are still Latino people who are Jewish, in case people don't realize it.

  • candelikas = little candles in LADINO, the language of Sephardic Jews tracing back to 15 century Spain. Ladino is mostly 15th century Castillian Spanish - but is not considered "Spanish" by contemporary standards. (It would be like saying something in Shakesperian English and calling it contemporary English.) Hope all had a lovely Chanukah!

  • true but unlike pop belif, there is few Hebrew influences. Its influenced alot more by Arabic. It is a Latigbase uses ha-aleph-beis, has vowels in its writing.like the Jews in eastern Europe speaking Yiddish. They used these languages for secular everyday houshold converstaions, b/c they belived Hebrew is a ha-loshn kodesh (grammers off) or a holy language. Altho the only communities i am aware of that have djudeo-espanyolo pop. are several scattered parts of southamerica spain, and Israel.

  • candelikas =little candles in Spanish
