why would you disable javascript? that isnt where viruses come from. In fact as a web designer i know that disabling javascript will make a vast majority of the internet NOT work for you. 855 of menu systems on the internet make use of javascript for such thinks as dropdowns and hover animations. ALSO many of the newer HTML5 sites rely on javascript for basic display functions like layout and positioning dynamically based on resolution and screen size. Disabling javascript isnt a solution...

Assuming it's not damaged, an NTFS file system can be mounted using a Linux Live CD or flash drive. You can't write to it, but you can back up anything necessary that might be important. @imnoidiot4 Thats a simple thing dude. Just start your machine and insert the CD containing Windows whatever version you have got. Then keep pressing the delete key. You will be entering the boot up options. Select the Boot priority and choose the CD drive where you have already placed Windows CD. Then press F10 and enter.
Your CD installation will proceed. During that time format the entire hard disk. This will remove the ubuntu OS from your machine and install Windows.

The best cure for avoiding any further Windows viruses is to reformat, and install Linux as your primary OS. BTW - this also avoids the headache and frustration for Mac users, (though it doesn't recover those thousands you gave to big daddy Steve Jobs for a hunk of junk OS).

People act like viruses come from the OS itself. Viruses have everything to do with how much caution you take into that kind of stuff. I have never received a virus on my Win7 PC because I know what the heck I'm doing. If you get a virus on any OS you were probably just asking for it.

I too have never gotten a virus on my windows 7 PC, and I actually really love Windows 7. My only problem with windows 7 is it starts to get very sluggish if too much of the hard drive is taken up by programs, videos, music, and photos. Linux on the other hand stays as fast as the day you installed it.
just use bitdefender or kaspersky & have realtime protection. Linux is good but will never be the equal of windows & neder do mac. @KEEVVY First of all, learn some grammar and spelling. Second, Windows is crap when you have a virus, and even when running an antivirus you can still get a virus. "upgrading from 7 to 7" (which I'm guessing is reinstalling Windows, I cant tell because of your horrible grammar) will wipe all your files and apps, and that's not exactly a good fix. Ubuntu is a great OS and you can do virtually anything you can do with Windows but for free and faster.

And my solution hyrens boot is the same thing that is on this video. You insert a cd , boot a mini linux from it, automaticly install the antivirus and scan. @KEEVVY The native CAD selection is not very good right now but you can just type CAD into Ubuntu software center(if you have Ubuntu) or synaptic. apt-cache search will tell you what's in the repos too. There is always the slow windows style way of going to web sites for packages or source. Your best bet is to either run a Windows CAD program on Linux, set up a virtual machine for all your Windows stuff, or dual boot (put windows in first or it will wreck any other OS on your system.)

Doesn't make any sense to use Clam AV. Clam's detection rates are very poor. It will never be able to properly cure a hideous virus. It's better to use a sophisticated virus scanner for that purpose. A Linux live cd/stick is doing well for rescuing your data, but not for repairing a Windows system. You're better off with Hiren's Boot CD which contains all kinds of Windows specialized repair tools.

They'd save money and only have to upgrade the computer when they felt it was too out of date. Paying for an OS without getting a copy of the disc is just bad planning.

@EvilMaxWar My question is, how can someone that is knowledgeable enough to use Linux, stupid enough to get a Virus on Windows? I'm willing to be I know my way around Win7 more right now, than I do around Ubuntu 11.04 (just started using it last week, but have had Win 7 since it came out), and I have yet to get one virus on my Win7. Why? Because I'm not an idiot.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling Linux users Mac users or anything like that....I'd never think you guys are NEARLY that idiotic

People act like viruses come from the OS itself. Viruses have everything to do with how much caution you take into that kind of stuff. I have never received a virus on my Win7 PC because I know what the heck I'm doing. If you get a virus on any OS you were probably just asking for it.

@spungebobskuarepants True, but Linux is usually safer, because most of the software you want or need to download is in a safe repository completely free of viruses. I too have never gotten a virus on my windows 7 PC, and I actually really love Windows 7. My only problem with windows 7 is it starts to get very sluggish if too much of the hard drive is taken up by programs, videos, music, and photos. Linux on the other hand stays as fast as the day you installed it.

just use bitdefender or kaspersky & have realtime protection. Linux is good but will never be the equal of windows & neder do mac. Even if it has viruses windows still the best, and even if you damage it know you can upgrade 7 to 7 and that will repair evrething.Linux will have problems with softwares, drivers saying you are trying to use the phones spekers microphone in the same time & you will realise that there is no driver for that, & no solution & mac is for mac. Hirens boot cd better cure

@KEEVVY First of all, learn some grammar and spelling. Second, Windows is crap when you have a virus, and even when running an antivirus you can still get a virus. "upgrading from 7 to 7" (which I'm guessing is reinstalling Windows, I cant tell because of your horrible grammar) will wipe all your files and apps, and that's not exactly a good fix. Ubuntu is a great OS and you can do virtually anything you can do with Windows but for free and faster.

@norberto950 first of all I'm not american so I don't supose you know to spell something from my country , and that upgrade meens that you will not lose any program & even it will keep the settings. And my solution hyrens boot is the same thing that is on this video. You insert a cd , boot a mini linux from it, automaticly install the antivirus and scan. And I all soo used unbuntu, slax, mint, solaris & even mac. And I wonder how many math or cad products do you know to work on linux?

@KEEVVY The native CAD selection is not very good right now but you can just type CAD into Ubuntu software center(if you have Ubuntu) or synaptic. apt-cache search will tell you what's in the repos too. There is always the slow windows style way of going to web sites for packages or source. Your best bet is to either run a Windows CAD program on Linux, set up a virtual machine for all your Windows stuff, or dual boot (put windows in first or it will wreck any other OS on your system.)

Doesn't make any sense to use Clam AV. Clam's detection rates are very poor. It will never be able to properly cure a hideous virus. It's better to use a sophisticated virus scanner for that purpose. A Linux live cd/stick is doing well for rescuing your data, but not for repairing a Windows system. You're better off with Hiren's Boot CD which contains all kinds of Windows specialized repair tools.

@samotkun I only game on the computer with windows xp. Anything work/school related I don't trust windows with. I've lost too much to XPs stupid crashes and loss of all data. I just don't trust it for anything important.
But I do agree with you that microsoft is where to go for gaming. I do play a lot of games on my desktop with XP, and a lot more on my Xbox 360.

@bnp97 *nods slowly* unfortunately this is true..just like their wifi disconnection problems of VARYING degress with their ipad 2's versus ipad 1st gens. I have kept up with massive amounts of reply emails in apple forums about people troubleshooting through TRIAL and error methods. EVERY branch. If apple would just HUMBLE UP and start stretching their pride's kinks out and be OPEN communicative with the public ( let alone their direct customers) i'd have a much hire opinion of them.

@bnp97 Microsoft does nothing for free. They charge you an arm and a leg for a buggy operating system then they add all kinds of useless applications to slow down your computer after a while so that you think you need a newer computer, then you have to pay for the Microsoft OS again. (With the new computer)

@webmastereyedoll Not that I'm a fan of Windows or anything but all someone has to do is just build their own computer for a lot cheaper and buy a copy of the Microsoft OS on a disc. They'd save money and only have to upgrade the computer when they felt it was too out of date. Paying for an OS without getting a copy of the disc is just bad planning.
