  • Its great we have CCTV in the UK. Anyone who is against this when you fall victim to a crime remember to ask the officer to check the local CCTV to see if the offender has been captured on this. Yes its called double standards. Some of you people need to get a grip of reality, im only guessing that you must think you have very interesting lives & that the establishment want to follow your every move but i dont think so.

  • No, it's not normal. They do it because they're afraid of us. They won't ever admit that, but they are. You don't roll out all of this surveillance technology unless you're afraid of what your "small people" will do to you.

And don't think that it's not being used in the US. I've read that we (US) already have low-level surveillance drones in the air. They're shaped like skateboards and they hover above the cloud cover.

  • we hate it but we have no rights anymore, why wont the U.S help us?

  • The UK is the most surveilled country in the world -we're the testing ground for all manner of anti-human Tavistock devised evils. The controllers have a global agenda & their pincer movement on the public is unveiled stealthily whilst keeping them mind controlled. They're also routinely using scalar weapons/ microwaves to remotely control and/or softkill us. A lot of premature deaths of political dissidents have been state-sanctioned murder by the use of these 'silent weapons for quiet wars'

  • Unfortunately thats the way it is. Law abiding citizens are being spied on without their consent. They DO NOT solve crime, So must be there for a more sinister purpose They are intending to have two areas surveilled 24/7 by spy ANPR cameras and 72 " Covert" Cameras in one area alone Hidden behind walls, in trees etc. They also have the technology to record voices. Welcome to the Orwellian nighmare.

  • uk is just the test bed for new survilence ideas from the US military ,the fact we have not got guns is why our government gets to walk all over us ,i for one will be using my air rifle to shoot the spy drones out of the sky when i see one ,peace and the uk is a police state the US is next

  • cctv has been a slow devlopment it seems most have goton used to it. Drones are going to far they will be very unpopular but probaly used mostly during festavils and prostests, the police have devloped tactics that are hampering how far we go when protesting including filming us with camcorders during protest which is fueling direct action, there are direct action training centers and large protests often have free specialist lawers see indymeadia for how protests and activisum goes down here

  • I think what murrchops is trying to say is in one of of bills which are very old and need updating it says the police are for the people not the state but this is changing regardless the UK is becoming the Electronic Police State test bed for the world just look at or DNA database these are just arrested people not convicted

  • The scary thing is is that cameras like those in the UK are slowly taking over in the US. New York now has street cameras monitored by the police just like the UK. If they bring them to my city I am going out at night with my gille-suit, ski-mask, and silenced .22 and doing some camera hunting. And I mean it, if I can nip them in the bud maybe they won't bring any more.

  • Yes. We have more cameras than you and YES, some people care but there is honestly not a lot we can do about it. Big Brother does not have an "opt out" button and private individuals are pretty much helpless.

I wouldn't kid yourself that just because you don't have obvious cameras they are not there however.

A cam lens can be stuck onto the end of a fibre optic cable now. When embedded in the side of a building it can be invisible. Maybe your government is more subtle than ours. Look up Echelon.

  • I know about Echelon - and you make very valid points. "There are none more helplessly enslaved than those who believe they are free"

  • man i hate all these cameras we should start a gang disabling all these. I normally if confronted face to face with 1 of these i give the 2 finger salute (lol) minoraty report is just round the corner if i cant find my own little island soon im gonna live with the hamish people.

  • heya bud, well my opinion is non of this is used for anti-terrorism if a suicidal bomber is going to blow something up they arnt going to give warning dates and times.this is just plainly to spy on every ones activities.more and more people are becoming disrupted by the policing and within the next 10 years there will be a mass revolt within england and from ive seen alot of other countries are heading down the same pathway .the people will always win in the end!

  • The British aren't scared of the police or government really. If power is abused all hell is let loose, the politicians are pretty scared of the media especially when they can be exposed or mocked. The Brits can tear their politicians apart, egg them, have fights with them, steal their bicycles and break into their houses relatively easily. American politicians and police I belive are given far to much respect, I mean people were crying when obama was elected? Tony Blair...Gordon Brown...

  • I couldnt agree with you more. Our media in the U.S. is so biased toward the president and all of our politicians. We are forgetting to stand up for what is right, almost as if we are afraid. If I had a camera watching me on the streets, I would go ballistic. My hats off to all of you for your patience.

  • That's true. We're watched all the time from all over.

But, I'm guessing you're from the US? Well, I'd look at your own society first. Since the post 9/11 Acts (Homeland Security and Patriot) you rights have been annihilated. Law enforcement agencies such as the FBI can search your emails, internet traffic, tap your telephones, and search medical, financial, and other records. Incidentally, the state we're in is as a result of US policy.

  • I have seen one in the Philadelphia/Camden area every night for the last couple of months.

  • Just for the Oyster card - There is a way to avoid your journey details being used against you later on. Pay the £3 deposit, use the card for the day and then return it for a refund. The Underground have to destroy the card and issue you with a refund. Its against the law for them to re-issue the card due to Privacy law. This costs more money then the paper ticket if everyone was doing this. I am sure they would find a way to stop us from doing this if it were to happen on a large scale :-(

  • CCTV for us here is not really the big issue anymore as soon they will be recording every e-mail, text message and telephone call details in a database which they will hold for 1 year. This will make it impossible to do anything without the Government knowing. To me it looks like the stuff Nazi Germany would have loved to have. No need for a secret police (Gastapo) when technology does it for you. I can not wait to leave my country and live where I have freedom from the state.

  • everyone is watching you now

  • I'm from London, UK. This country as become suspicious of its citizens. Have you heard of the Oyster Card? Its an electronic card which you use in London to use the bus and trains. The cost of not using the card is £8 return compared to using it which is on £3. It tracks your movement around london and in most cases you have to register it with your name and address. They have now linked it with the credit card for which you use in the shop. Everything is being recorded.

  • well im from essex uk still part of london... and i fully believe in what ur saying there... they track everything, i got an oyster 16+ free travel on busses. i think all of that is because they can track you if the need to whenever u use a card, oyster, phone etc. and i think this is because of terorism and crime

  • Its not like there is any real benefit to people using oyster. It takes longer to purchase your top up due to many options plus people take too long trying to figure out what type of ticket they need. Furthermore a journey from Turnpike Land to Lewisham via Overground makes you pay for Zone 1, regardless to the fact that you never enter Zone 1 and take longer to complete your journey. Its a rip off for which I knew from the start yet we have no choice in the matter.

  • thats true

  • CCTV cameras are simply counteracted by hoodies and masks.

plus the police have a reputation for turning up late or not at all

  • Intresting, I'm confused how that it is that Americans think that something you do in the street is private.

CCTV isn't doing anything that a police officer couldn't do stood where the camera is, the difference being that 4.2 million extra cops *would* be a bad thing for about every reason you could think of.

As somebody that's been saved from having the shit kicked out of him by a gang because a CCTV camera was watching at 3am (police came even though nobody called them) - the more the better

  • Actually statistics show that assualt is raised when CCTV is installed. If I want to cut someones head off, frankly I wouldnt care if someones watching, it doesnt stop anything. CCCTV raises violent crime, lowers petty theft, littering etc.

If there 10 policement on every street, fucking staring at me I'd be freaked out. The point is that with CCTV you dont know for sure if your being watched. The studies done in nazi germany showing the psych effects of being watched 24/7 were incredible.

  • What, it's a crime deterrent?? Yeah 4sure, it's doing a really good job of stopping youngsters stabbing each other, rapes, car crime, assaults, and in general it's keeping us sheep feeling safe!?! There's something really wrong with the system that's been put in place for us by our glorious leaders.

You've got to ask yourself, Why is this all going on when there's all these cctv cameras put in place?

  • The only thing I can say, for the UK *and* the rest of the world, is this:

"THEY are few. WE are many."

  • My thoughts on it is, that to many people are to busy to stop and look at the cameras... They walk here and there blissfully unaware that there's cctv cameras everywhere, the cameras blend in very well and unless you actually took 5secs to look up you'll not know that they're there. Funny thing is, Knife crime, assults, gang members, car crime and petty theif is rising!?

The judicial system in the UK is a tragic comedy and the bad boys know that if caught it's a slap on the wrist.

  • Now that I'm a bit older and view the world at a different perspective as i did when i was young, i honestly think that there is some sort of motive behind the light sentences the judges flippantly hand out to most of these closet humans. A bit deep no doubt, but i'm pointing towards the "order out of chaos" that is printed on the US paper money.... They (the few:) make it so fucked up that we'll be preying for a new technology surveillance theme to stop the madness and live without fear.

  • its a crime deterrent, if you have nothing to hide it shouldnt be a problem, they're talking about putting up more of those in toronto in order to catch criminals

  • Nothing surprises me now. Check out my video.......

  • and yet America is the most crime-ridden country... hmmmm.... see a link?

  • The US has seriously lost its way - and the UK seems to be leading us in the wrong direction.

  • mate ...try wakking in london everything is recorded u dont even notice it now days,i do find it alarming but not many people care about it as london especialy the city is a financial hub of the world that nwwds protection

  • The police in the uk have to much power and thay get a big chunk of the money from speeding fines. The more money thay get the more speeding and cctv cameras we get. most people in the uk dont have any idea that above there heads are cctv cameras watching them and we dont have any say on them being fitted all over the uk. Thay do what thay wont but this needs to change FAST !

  • This is absolutely the way things are going. Houston is getting set to launch unmanned surveillance drones as I'm typing this. The police state is coming and it's all thanks to the false flag events on 9/11 and the fear induced by our boogeyman Osama bin (dead five years now) Laden.

    Wake up people!

  • i don't like the CCTV cameras its like being stalked only you can't punch them

  • Oh the other thing about the spy drones that interests me, is how many people see them as UFO's and how many know what they are?

  • Thedarkener.: great to feel that theres other people out there with similar concerns. Think of it this way...

There exists a government funded mob (similar to a mafia) who makes up a set of rules (not to protect you, but to protect their interests) and if you attempt to deft these rules they will lock you in a cage, steal your money, or take away whatever rights you had left.

Don't let the 'force' push you around. Just go remove the cameras yourself :)

  • You are paranoid. LMAO we don't care if we are getting filmed i rather be filmed than to be shot or mugged, like you Americaland-Liberals persons you make a big deal about everything under the sun.

  • So can I put cameras in your house? I'm assuming that wouldn't bother you, either. Watch you whack off, take a shit, that won't bother you?

    Same thing, different degree.

  • You dont deserve the human rights which were already taken from you.

If you had a choice your saying youd rather have this illusion of security than any freedom? You know CCTV doesnt prevent or solve crime anywhere near as much as people claim. Thanks to CCTV in my area, littering and public drunkeness has decreased and rape, theft and gbh has been hugely increased. Thanks BB!

  • You'd rather I filmed you for the rest of your life than me taking whats in your pockets right now? You're fucked, your the first person I'm proud to have seen lost his title of "human".

Hopefully you'll remain in this zoo and never get your rights back.

  • Well said my friend! They want to film & watch us, but they don't like it when they are filmed. Type Darren Pollard in utube search. The Police - Your Friendly Guides. What have they to hide!

  • it sucks... i see at least 6 cameras on the way to work and there are probably more... I understand cameras in shops as they owners need to cover themselves and it is their property but the streets are OUR property... we pay for them... in fact we are paying for the cameras as well... though i would have thought america would have even more cameras?

  • But if you happened to be mugged, robbed, whatever on the way to work, these cameras might well provide vital evidence as to who did it. Surely that's to your advantage.

If you've nothing to hide, I can't see the problem with cameras.

  • Can I see your dick? Put it on youtube, what... your not a criminal are you? Well then you've got nothing to hide.

Do you enjoy any human rights/civil liberties?

btw you realise you cant request any of this information if someone else is on the camera? The footage is only useful after youve been stabbed and the pigs turn up 10 mins later.

Plus CCTV increases violent crime! so if your worried about that then why dont you see a problem here?! Pay attention to the statistics.

  • we been fighting the law for ages and you cant beat em'

  • What do you have to do to make them realize that you won't stand for this? It makes me sick... how can a government do things its own people don't want it to do?

Anarchy sure sounds great! ANARCHY IN THE UK RETURNS!! Haha... but seriously.

  • yip it sucks big time i have a good knowlege of the camera locations and ranges i usto listen to the radio scanners and the patter of the cops and control rooms was real bad , they set people up for murders , drugs the government hates competition ;o)_ they know how to start terrorism they created it

  • Mind boggling. Scanner recordings that show this kind of misuse would start an uproar of epic proportions if released in the wild (online)...

  • lots of people make rules, the pigs rules are no more important than my rules. choose who you obey, or just ignore them all, theres nothing to beat, other than blind submission to a govt funded mob that dont give a fuck about you. Even the mafia cared about their communities...

  • I hate them.

  • there using our fears to take out freedom... slowly... NWO is beggining...

  • It's worth noting that it's a test being done in only one county, and these things only have a flying time of 20 minutes, so they'll be deployed when needed.

  • There's something similar being done in LA, only with little planes instead of helicoptors. I remember something last year, in a county in either North or South Carolina, where the US FAA was trying to stop the police from using something like this. Anyone know anything about either of these?

  • I think that those cameras on US traffic lights can be used only for monitoring traffic and not actual law enforcement. If not all, then certainly in some places a court order would be required for the police or whatever you guys call your criminal prosecution service to get hold of any footage.

  • I don't think that being watched has anything to do with liberty, and, in a way I think that it can put more of a burden of proof on on police - if someone's going to be punished for something, it's better it be with video evidence than what an officer says.

  • I'm from the UK, and it's never really bothered me. Whether it benefits anyone at all is a different matter - anti social behaviour isn't a problem because people aren't caught, it's a problem because nothing happens when they are.

  • 2) Just ask yourself the question, "How did we deal with all of this before surveillance cameras?" We did quite well totally without them. Surveillance implies that it's OK to violate your Right to Privacy in order to "prevent" crime. But it's never been demonstrated that it actually does.

  • Remember, the UK doesn't have a Constitution that protects their Rights. We do! However we're losing our Rights very quickly unless people start to really speak out loudly and firmly. "We don't want to be a surveillance society!"

  • What's that quote from Ben Franklin ? "He who would sacrifice Liberty for Security desrves neither." ?

  • Have you notice the cameras on all the traffic light supports in the U.S.?

  • George Orwell 1984, good book. The US government can read newspapers from satellites.

  • most people in the uk are apathetic about it. i hate them, they don't prevent anything they just watch it happen.

  • Realize what you're saying - you're creating separation. I know hate is a normal human emotion, but if we want to make change, we can't separate ourselves. Thank you for commenting!

  • oops that was badly worded, i meant i hate the cameras not the people that don't care about it.

  • I confronted the kids ..but just blabla from them of course.i wished there was a camera on that lot but there wasnt. Maybe its ok to monitor things but not humans, let humans take care of humans but machines take care of other machines?

  • couldn't of said it better myself. all though its inevitably going to get worse as technology improves and governments remain in existence... they just wont tell us about it.

  • i do have to confess one thing, last week i parked my car at the lot of a store and there were a bunch of drunk kids hanging around,i went in only for 5 minutes but when i came out there was a big scratch on the drivers door.

  • wee bastards just jelousy because they will never have a car cause they can only afford a bottle of £1.50p pulse cider

  • It's out of control here, they have cameras that allow the operator to shout orders at people. Some police officers have cameras in their helmets. The reason CCTV is so permissive here is due to massive goverment investment , weak regulations and actually - public support. They give the impression that something is being done about crime, but arguably any reduction is minimal. They do however provide ample footage of drunken youths brawling in the streets for the numerous CCTV related TV shows.

  • At least the surveillance cameras aren't connected to facial recognition software. That would enable computers to automate the identification process thereby creating gigantic privacy issues. There was a popular movie called Gattaca a few years back where citizens were identified at various check points with a finger stick device that extracted blood. If we ever reach that point then the slippery slope that supports public safety will have turned to a sheet of ice.

  • Yeah! and current image rec technology is so advanced that you can take a crappy photo like the one on your passport as a bases and it would still find you if your were displayed on a small family photo hanging on Jordans wall in this video...really scary.

  • It's not just cameras that are tracking everything we do, all our website searches, clicks are all stored in some way or another, everything we buy is recorded so people can moniter what certain people are buying.

  • I wrote a hell of a lot more than that and it was cut off.

"As you stated there is the safety issue, but I think if someone is going to rob a shop, rape a woman(or a man for that matter) or antyhing against the law, they'd do it with or without a camera following them. A lot of the time it's hard to even see the cameras, or atleast where I live you can't see many.

  • As a guy in the UK I find it scary that pretty much every move I make is recorded.
