More videos of this organ please? Roxy Grove Hall is one of Ruffatti's best I think. I have the Gospel Preludes in my library somewhere. They ain't easy by any means. Great performance on a great instrument!
muslador21, the user who commented originally started attacking me out of the blue after I left a comment on one of Carol's videos. Apparently that user is a huge fan and was personally offended. I doubt my comments "puffed up" my view count any if at all, regardless thats not why I said what I did. My aim in my posts is to, in most cases, expand the viewable organ literature on youtube, not to try and make myself an organ star. Not sure how Carol became one, but it's undeserved in my opinion.
I play this work and agree that I don't pay attention to half of Bolcom's registrations! HAHA You did the work justice though and I enjoyed every note. Do you play his "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child"? That is probably my favourite of his.
Was Bolcom a organist I don't know ? What is interesting about this work is that Bolcom asks a lot of the Organist. There is virtually several registration changes throughout out the whole of this work. If I am correct we only ever actually hear the tune How Firm a foundation as fragments. Sometimes in the manaul parts and other times appearing in the pedal. Quite a challenging piece and it is incredibly difficult to bring off unless your a very skilled organist.
Bolcom is NOT an organist, which explains his incredible demands on a person playing one of these pieces. He expects color/registration changes so frequently that even the best organists ignore half of what he puts in the score. "How Firm A Foundation" actually does not appear in fragments, once it switches to that part of the piece, the melody stays in the soprano voice of the manuals and is continuous.
@bradtaylor32 Truth be told! I'm working on his Sweet Hour of Prayer right now, and even for three pages, there are some unusual instructions that remind me a little bit of when I played the two pieces of Honegger in terms of registration.
A colleague of mine said he helped premiere Bolcom's Symphony for Band awhile back, and said the man was known to change what he wanted in performance from his music frequently...so we have some freedom with his works :)
I don't know it, but just took a look at it. Doesn't seem to hard, maybe i'll get around to it this summer. I also play the Bolcom "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" but haven't recorded it.
You are the best person ever for posting this!!!! I heard this one, which is one of my favorites, on Pipedreams. I have always wanted to see someone play this!!

In an interview, Bolcom said he played organ while he was in school, but was not very good.
