  • Great song - what a band!

  • A lot of pop back in the 80s had the abilty to be intelligent enteraining with grate artsy, contrast that with pop in 2011 there seen to be two types of pop now boring winey selfindulgent selfimportant emo bands who sound like they have serotonin deficiency, or the other type of pop at the moment seems to be aimed at 10 year olds or people who have ingested way to much fluoride in there local drinking water.

  • I love Patrick Kane... he's too hot! ;)

  • Wow, they sound a lot like Curiosity Killed the Cat don't they.

    Maybe a poor man's version

  • love this song!!!!!!!!!! 80s rule........ xx

  • Excellent cats from Coatbridge.

  • Hot Damn the plaster, the plaster

  • superb.............. them wo the days!!!!

  • This song was released in 1987. It is a reference to how a young man voted conservative for the 1st time in 1979 for a change..but 7 years later realised that he was conned...so hence the protest to "withdraw my labour of love" it is also a metaphor for the end of any kind of relationship that has come to a bitter. Check out the history of "Hue and Cry" - the singer Pat Kane is a very serious art critique these days. Peace. Tx

  • Check them out live - Greg's voice is as good as it ever was - superb!!

  • Used to play them on my walkman in the 80s lol, They are superb live even nowadays great Scottish Talent of the 80s !!!

  • This is a serious favourite of mine - I call it the ode to one-sided relationships - love or friendships. Love the way that being boxed and being freed is portrayed.

  • Yup ! Definately Hue & Cry at Roundhay, It takes me back to a better time !

  • Me & my missus went to see Madonna at Roundhay Park Leeds in 1987 and I'm certain that Hue & Cry were the support act - The missus says it was Wet Wet Wet. Just to confuse matters Wikipedia says the support act for the tour was Level 42 but it definately wasn't them at Leeds.

Can anyone confirm it was Hue & Cry??

  • @rosie4you

Thanks - Didn't realise someone had already commented on Hue & Cry playing the Roundhay park gig

  • @steelbanktrucker It was defo NOT wet wet wet and I'm also defo it wasnt hue and cry ,cant help you but i know for sure wasnt these two bands

  • Great song , a mate of mine just sung it after a few beers , almost as good as the real thing :P

  • Saw this group live at Madonna's concert in Roundhay Park, Leeds in 1987. They were terrific. Magical evening that lingers in the memory.

  • These guys supported Simply Red in the late 80's.. they were far better than the main act

  • Great tune,......

  • brill ,voice

  • This one still pushes the buttons..

  • geography27, totally with you, you are so right, can you imagine a band like this taking the charts by storm these days? Hue and Cry actually wrote their own MUSIC, it wasn't a producer or a record label exec, it was them, playing their tunes, like a band aught to be!

  • Brilliant tune! I've always like this. Music should be like this now! Back in the mainstream, not useless mindless braindead drivel that's out now.

I couldn't care a f**k who doesn't like video. I like it.... it's much better than the hideous embellishment flashy crap you find on 'music' videos of today.

  • @JacquesZupp Oi, I was looking out for Linda!!

  • marvelous

  • How could I have forgotten this little 80's jewel??? Great voices, a tune with an irresistible drive, very cleverly arranged...still sounds very modern. The video...well...not a masterpeice, but there's some eye-candy :-)

  • GTA ballad of gay tony :)

  • This is why I loved the 80's so much. Every group had their own style and were individual in their own way. All the songs sounded different. I find that songs nowadays all sound the same and also their voices. THIS GROUP WERE BRILLIANT!! They were the first CD I ever bought, loved his voice. LUV U H&C XXXX

  • @wapbamboowee the 80's were the best, look at todays music, most are remakes from the 80's.

  • @womblediehard... yep... loads of good bands... early 90's were good too...

  • I remember listening to this when I was a little kid. (I'm 19 now). My dad had this old tape. It's funny, I knew only few words of english back then (seriously: "babyh" was probably the only word in this song I understood) but somehow I remember the lyrics ^^

  • Wicked tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good song on GTA

  • I saw hue and cry at the symphony hall in b'ham in 1991 - they were amazing - at the time i was so into stone roses, house of love and all that stuff and hue and cry were the complete antithesis but so refreshing, i love the soul sound.
