I don't understand you people. Catholics do not, and I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT worship Mary. I don't know why people can't understand that. We do not see her as a goddess. We recognize how important she is, and, like the saints, ask for her help by asking her Son. Again, if that didn't get through to you, we don't worship her. God gave authority to men, not a collection of books. The Seat of Moses represents the authority passed down to the Pharisees through the ages to interpret the law. That authority was then taken away and given to Peter, who was the only apostle to whom Jesus promised to give the "Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven".

Essentially we see Jesus appointing Peter shepherd of his sheep here on earth, an analogy that is often used with God and Christ himself through the Bible as the shepherd of the flock. Yes, Peter led the Church. But to take this to mean he was the Pope is to assume that the leader of the Church is the Bishop of Rome. Essentially, you are reading your beliefs into the text. Neither Scripture nor the Church Fathers state that Peter was Bishop of Rome.

Babylon was code for Rome as shown by: Sibylline Oracles (5:159f), Apocalypse of Baruch (2:1) to name a few. Pamphilius in The Chronicle composed 303AD states Peters first epistle was composed in Rome and he infers this referencing the city as Babylon. In 110AD in ignatius of Antiochs letter to the romans he remarks that Peter did indeed lead the Church of Rome.
It is not questioned by any informed individuals that Peter was indeed in Rome. But again, you are taking this to mean that Peter was the Bishop of Rome. That does not follow.

God gave authority to men, not a collection of books. The Seat of Moses represents the authority passed down to the Pharisees through the ages to interpret the law. That authority was then taken away and given to Peter, who was the only apostle to whom Jesus promised to give the "Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven".

And Asian countries that had feudalistic systems still progressed drastically, as can be seen by the the presence of paper money, gunpowder, compass, etc around 1000 AD in China.

Yes, Peter led the Church. But to take this to mean he was the Pope is to assume that the leader of the Church is the Bishop of Rome. Essentially, you are reading your beliefs into the text. Neither Scripture nor the Church Fathers state that Peter was Bishop of Rome.

Babylon was code for Rome as shown by: Sibylline Oracles (5:159f), Apocalypse of Baruch (2:1) to name a few. Pamphilius in The Chronicle composed 303AD states Peters first epistle was composed in Rome and he infers this referencing the city as Babylon. In 110AD in ignatius of Antiochs letter to the romans he remarks that Peter did indeed lead the Church of Rome.

@Aventors The Orthodox Church HAS grown in Saints, Virtue, etc... One, Holy, Catholic (means complete as well as Universal), and Apostolic equally apply to The Orthoox Church as it does Catholic. We are ONE (jurisdictions are distinct, yet perfectly united parts of the Orthodox Church), we are HOLY (not as tainted as the West in regardsa to inquisitions, crusades, etc...), we are CATHOLIC (people from every language, tribe, and nation are Orthodox), and we are APOSTOLIC

Were are your orthodox saints, orders, missionaries, universities? Were are your theologians and scientists? They'll never come close to a Saint Thomas of Aquinas. We must'nt hold on to a religious denomination just because our culture has kept it – study about how the HOLY Inquisition kept the jews from taking over sectors of the church, as well as the world (at least back then). Well, if the crusades had'nt happened you and all other orthodoxes of today would be muslim.

@Aventors Wait . . . there isn't any Roman part of it. It's One Holy Apostolic Catholic. Those are the four pillars of the Church.

@Aventors When you come to the end of your life, won't it be a right pain in the ass when everything just ends and you realise that religion is all bullshit? Everyone thinks religion comforts us in afterlife but I put this to you. I will be satisfied in death that life has been going for more than 6.5billion years, every creature sharing the same atoms ever present on earth and I have been lucky enough to be made of these, and been able to experience a tiny percent of life of this universe.

speckyprick – that's six extra zeros to earth's timeline: the world's less than 6,500 years old. Do your homework and search true scientific evidence and the falsity of evolution, which was concocted, and is so widely propagated, to fabricate in us a doubting of the Power, Wisdom and Love of the Creator. Look for the evidences of Noah's flood, the complete absence of intermediary creatures, the impossibility of species to "change for the better" – according to modern molecular genetics...

@Aventors I'm catholic but speak strongly for science. The works of the many enzymes and proteins inside of us that keep us ticking over, outweighs number of people of earth, something and not the only thing that goes unappreciated to many who are religious, But i ask you take both in hand to perceive a picture for both sides. I also suggest you read Pope John paul II message to the pontifical academy of sciences whereby the vatican accepts Darwins theory of evolution.

@luffinbitbybit – We must'nt mistake evolution with science, since the former is actually superstition, never science. On this subject, do your homework and you'll find plenty of info - and be careful or you might lose your faith. The Church never sustained evolution as possible. The modernists are wrong when proclaiming any support whatsoever for anything different from what is given in the sacred scriptures. Popes are infalible in matters of faith, and seldom has infalibility been used.

@Aventors I fully comply with your argument. But like many words of every language they were made to suit human work, something of which is falliable. Faith to me is something not loss, but regardless, we are catholic :). If you will be in spain this coming august, or anyone else for that matter, let us share in the glory, like we did in sydney 3 years ago. Peace be brother.
