Left3332rot, these cams cost less than $1000, and they dont use vtec, it is eliminated, look it up, the vtec solenoid comes off, without vtec the engine oil lubes more block parts than the head making it last longer, but yes it needs to be tuned instantly when these cams are out in, also I recommend ITB's
@NissanTy they are high lift extreme racing cams and they run of the large vtec cam lobes at all times. The cams come with a kit that includes the cams and new internals for the head they aint cheap to purchase let alone running for a daily the idle with out tune will keep dying. like 1500 dollars just to buy the kit.
VTEC is a system that consisted of two different Lob profiles on the same camshaft, VTEC is the system that electronically switches between the Low lift lob, and the High lift lob on the cam, what VTEC Killer cams do is they eliminated the center lob on the camshaft the High lift lob, and replaces the two outter low lift lob with a very aggressive high lift lob, so VTEC is eliminated and the car is running on a high lift outer lob.

You're hearing the cams get into their power band. Toda VTEC killers sound nasty at all RPM's but they'll scream at 5500 and beyond. I'm not a mechanical engineer but I imagine the reason behind the sound change has to do with atmospheric pressure, vacuum and load and a math formula to explain it all

The large Toda VTEC cams kind of ruin the point of VTEC since they (the low duration lobe) have large duration lobes themselves.
Obviously with the single duration VTEC killer cams there will be a drop in power in the lower RPM's but you won't notice it as your RPM's will increase extremely fast.
My latest video is my Civic with a B16A, Toda 1800cc stroker kit , VTEC Killer cams and a 4.929 final drive. Please watch it to get a feel for how fast the engine revs with these cams.
since Vtec is electronically controlled wouldnt these cams cause all sorts of codes and a check engine light? wouldnt the engine still be trying to engage the vtec above whatever rpm it engages in?
@TwoStrokePower653 Ecu must be modified, mapping is not gonna be fine if you dont do this! Car wont idle... so you MUST desable vtec engagement into the ecu first and tune the car :)
@mustangrules vtec is the middle lobe of your cam the lobes open the valves when vtec engages it locks the the pieces opening your valves essentially giving you a bigger cam so if you upgrade your cams to that point vtec is worthless was made to give the car good mpg and still have power to pass which is why it is rpm controlled not for huge horsepower gains
@mustangrules its good for a car with stock cams or slightly upgraded but a big set of cams already has bigger lobes vtec becomes pointless vtec is meant to keep a car economical not powerful those are some big cams thats why toda became big and people use vtec heads because they start out with a better flowing head than the non-vtec heads
@TwoStrokePower653 i kind of figured something with the ecm would have to be reprogramed. im sure they probably run much better with these cams. they are probably very reliable over time also. old honda engines ran forever but these new ones have way too much electronic crap. im not a honda person but it does sound nasty at idle. i guess once the cams are in all thats left electronic is the injection. do the itbs everyone has involve any electronics?
With my Toda VTEC killer set up I used a unmodified harness and an unaltered B16B Power FC, car never gave any faults and it idled fine on the base map after I set the mechanical idle on the throttle bodies.
Also, I admit this video is old but 7k RPM is just getting into the power band... Car should have about 4k more RPM's to go before the power starts to die off....
toda vtec killers were made for a smoother running engine on race cars (no vtec crossover during a corner exit or other funny torque jumping moments) lighter rotating mass (less valvetrain components) and less cam weight.
@DR1FT4H0L1C I'm just learning about this myself , but yea taking out the low profile cam lobes and running on only highly aggressive cam lobes (more so then stock Vtec lobes, with the killer cams (I believe)). This would be like running in constant Vtec, hints the shit idle..Again i'm not SAE certified.

AND obviously intake and exhaust came will NOT be the same, but a far as having the same length of duration and lift on each cylinder I would say yes, same cam profile on the lobes (yet different per intake and exhaust)..Again i'm not SAE certified. its nice but honestly it dosnt seem that quick, how much is it struggling for traction? what kind of work has been done? im a turbo man dont get me wrong, i boost around in a 4G61T worked over head, exhaust cam, ground plenum + oversized trottle body, 2 1/2 exhaust and intercooler piping, all the usual safety measures, and a fuel/managment system to top it off, 9g total bill but im gettin much much faster OTL than that, on stocks i used to spin 4th, custom diff and osaka G6's fixed it(sort of),

since Vtec is electronically controlled wouldnt these cams cause all sorts of codes and a check engine light? wouldnt the engine still be trying to engage the vtec above whatever rpm it engages in?

@TwoStrokePower653 Ecu must be modified, mapping is not gonna be fine if you dont do this! Car wont idle... so you MUST desable vtec engagement into the ecu first and tune the car :)

@mustangrules vtec is the middle lobe of your cam the lobes open the valves when vtec engages it locks the the pieces opening your valves essentially giving you a bigger cam so if you upgrade your cams to that point vtec is worthless was made to give the car good mpg and still have power to pass which is why it is rpm controlled not for huge horsepower gains

@mustangrules its good for a car with stock cams or slightly upgraded but a big set of cams already has bigger lobes vtec becomes pointless vtec is meant to keep a car economical not powerful those are some big cams thats why toda became big and people use vtec heads because they start out with a better flowing head than the non-vtec heads

the whole vtec system is removed, and you run a piggyback or stand alone ecu and turn off the vtec in the ecu

@TwoStrokePower653 i kind of figured something with the ecm would have to be reprogramed. im sure they probably run much better with these cams. they are probably very reliable over time also. old honda engines ran forever but these new ones have way too much electronic crap. im not a honda person but it does sound nasty at idle. i guess once the cams are in all thats left electronic is the injection. do the itbs everyone has involve any electronics?

With my Toda VTEC killer set up I used a unmodified harness and an unaltered B16B Power FC, car never gave any faults and it idled fine on the base map after I set the mechanical idle on the throttle bodies.
Also, I admit this video is old but 7k RPM is just getting into the power band... Car should have about 4k more RPM's to go before the power starts to die off....

toda vtec killers were made for a smoother running engine on race cars (no vtec crossover during a corner exit or other funny torque jumping moments) lighter rotating mass (less valvetrain components) and less cam weight.

@DR1FT4H0L1C I'm just learning about this myself , but yea taking out the low profile cam lobes and running on only highly aggressive cam lobes (more so then stock Vtec lobes, with the killer cams (I believe)). This would be like running in constant Vtec, hints the shit idle..Again i'm not SAE certified.

@DR1FT4H0L1C Well I assume they would be set at different degrees due to the pistons firing at different times. AND obviously intake and exhaust came will NOT be the same, but a far as having the same length of duration and lift on each cylinder I would say yes, same cam profile on the lobes (yet different per intake and exhaust)..Again i'm not SAE certified. Please correct if I'm wrong.

its nice but honestly it dosnt seem that quick, how much is it struggling for traction? what kind of work has been done? im a turbo man dont get me wrong, i boost around in a 4G61T worked over head, exhaust cam, ground plenum + oversized trottle body, 2 1/2 exhaust and intercooler piping, all the usual safety measures, and a fuel/managment system to top it off, 9g total bill but im gettin much much faster OTL than that, on stocks i used to spin 4th, custom diff and osaka G6's fixed it(sort of),

@2strokedetroit Having built boosted cars i can tell you it cost nowhere near 20 grand to build a well built car,even if you include the cost of the car....30 grand will put you in the single digits with a good driver and well prepped track.And a brand new bone stock mustang will run you in the area of $20-$25K anyways...so what's your point.

@dtrip09 equally prepped cars yes the car that is initially faster should be quicker...however domestics are more expensive to begine with so it is cheaper to have a 12,11 or 10 second car if you build an import.Also depending on what you consider modded...I've beaten MANY mustangs and domestics with mods while I only had basic mods so you can't say shit about that.
