This "Bollywood" production was Colonel Parker's idea of shaping Elvis into box office star. Can understand the man's drug use after watching these clips. Love Teri Garr, she moves with cat like grace and shimmies quite well too. This girl on her way to stardom.........and Letterman show, miss the underwear commercials, so does Ed Wood.
Thanks for putting this together. Surprised you left out Roustabout. One can see Teri pretty good in that one. Elvis, the biggest star in the world forced to sing crap songs like "Do the Clam".....that's Hollywood.
Elvis fulfilled the movie contracts that the Colonel had arranged, and Elvis had agreed to. Elvis had gotten in on the end of the "contract system." which trapped many stars! Elvis said in a taped interview that he began to do his music again after he had "gotten out of the movie contracts." That is when he did the '68 special HIS way and not the Colonel's.who wanted a Christmas special. The Colonel did NOT have anything on Elvis who would NOT have put up with that--he had a lot of guns!
Also, Elvis DID fire Parker once when they were fighting over the karate film & overseas touring. Jerry Schilling was there and said in his book that Parker said" if you go over there, you go without me" (they didn't know Parker was an illegal), and Elvis said "That's what I was thinking, you're FIRED!" Elvis tried doing it himself & tried getting another manager who would take it on, & finally took Parker back.
Jerry also explains the full story of "A Star is Born" which is complex, but basically boils down to Parker making everything so difficult that everyone gave up! He said this was Parker's usual tactic, and he NEVER directly said no to Elvis!
Thank you for your passionate comments. I cringe at some of Parker's decisions. E was offered West Side Story, Midnight Cowboy, A Star Is Born, etc.
Heartbreaking for Elvis. But, even though Elvis became disillusioned with his movie career, he unwittingly created his own genre of films. There is nothing like an Elvis musical. Just like the man, his movies are a thing unto itself. Not many actors can make that claim.
I think Elvis would be proud of his contributions to film.
I think Elvis was meant to act in lighthearted roles like these movies and not in serious flicks. Elvis in the Voight role in Midnight cowboy? I just don't see it, he's just not that kind of entertainer.
theelvisguy, What did I say 2 months ago to deserve such a reply from you: that Elvis's movie career in the 1960's was the greatest waste of genuine talent in history? I can't recall and what I wrote has been removed (probably because it was the truth and the truth hurts). Well, I go with that: Elvis's 60's movies were a total waste of time and talent. He should've continued making great records.
Oh the movies weren't "that bad!"... Imho some of the movies today are worse. I didn't like at least 10 of his movies, but some of these are my favorites. I had heard that Teri was in his movies, but I never recognized her! Thanks for showing her parts. 5 stars.

12ut5 - Elvis hated making these movies - He knew this cookie cutter format was getting old
He was trapped by the colonel Tom Parker
I wish he would have done the
Star is Born w/ Barbra Streisand
You would have thought the Colonel had a picture of Elvis with a goat or something to keep him as his agent foor life!
Elvis is still the King! R.I.P.
