Honyside in Riften is surprisingly my favorite 8000 enchanting armor displays weapon displays alchemy a boat (not usable) nice porch that leads outside to sort of a beach and the house is considered royalty, pretty landscape just that the town is not the nicest place if you are not in the thieves guild. This house is good to though.

Whats the use of having a house? Besides getting a new housecarl to follow you around...even though you can purchase a mercenary for 500g? I'm not saying you can't do it if it is just for fun and decoration.

@Nosensefornonsense Sleeping in a house you own gives you a bonous to learn new skills 10% faster and it's also nice to have a source close by to do alchemy and, cooking, enchanting etc. Finally you can store anything you find in your house without the risk of it getting lost. :D hope that helped

@NotCasuals If your character is skilled in Conjuration, that empty room would be perfect to store in the bodies of you defeated enemies. You can use them later one to Death Thrall when you need 'm.

You can still become a thane if you have killed Ulfric. Just talk to Brunwulf, ask if he needs anything else, he will talk about the thane thing, follow it, and boom, you are thane

if you do the full imperial questline then you just have to talk to the new jarl he will let you buy the house,his name dosent hvae jarl tho for some reason. Funny the solitude house is 25000 and it seems smaller.....o well i like solitude

@Julandrius1 yea i was with the imperials too, you can still buy it just go to the main castle and keep talkin to everybody and one of the will have the option to buy it for 12000, also a good tip to getting tons of money is wen you beat the dark brother hood u can do missions for night mother 1200 each and their unlimited, hope this helped

The one room is empty, because you don't have a housecarl yet. Every house has such a room that gets decorated when the housecarl moves in. Unlike your assumption you don't seem to be the thane of the city yet. I have the same situation in Markarth.

The best house is in Whiterun (opinion). It is the second closest building to the entrance/exit of the city, directly next to it is the forge, next to it on the other side is both Arcadia's cauldron and also the belethor's store, and in front of the house is the drunken huntsmen (all major stores are nearby=helpful). This house in Windhelm is one of the farthest houses from the entrance, the store is on the other side of the entire city (windhelm is huge) and the forge isn't too close either.
